This interview recorded in 2013 features Kron Gracie looking back at his epic match against Garry Tonon at ADCC In Beijing, China.
This fight will go down as one of the greatest ADCC matches of all time.
Garry was relatively unknown at the time but the Jiujitsu world would soon know his name after impressive performances against Kron, Cyborg Abreu and Buchecha.
Kron had an amazing performance that year submitting every one of his opponents to become the ADCC -77kg Champion.
He won his first match against Andy Wang by Rear Naked Choke and then went on to submit Garry Tonon by RNC in his second match.
In the Semi Final Kron submitted JT Torres by Armbar and then finished Otavio Souza by Guillotine in the final.
Kron Gracie is one of the few fightersin ADCC to finish all of his opponents by submission. - Спорт

This is crazy how good Kron is even having underestimated Gary. Humble too. Both incredible competitors.
I was sitting next to tonnons mum. I talked to him after the match. His mum was literally the only person he came with him to Beijing. He said he had no idea that there were only a few seconds left on the clock. Had he known, he wouldn't of tapped.
Yeha not tapping to a choke just puts you to sleep so whatever.
Maybe an armbar or something he'd survive

In Japan, we say "Tough fights make man's face. Kron has a face brave, intelligent, calm. It is a real Samurai attitude, respect.

Andy wang and kron fight before when both of them are not black belt. Kron cannot submit andy on that time. Just a couple of years, only 10dec andy is finish

The ADCC in 2013 had some really great matches. Unfortunately a lot of them were lost on the official live stream
One of my favorite matches ever, that armbar escape by garry was amazing. I would love to see a rematch between these two amazing competitors.

This put Tonnon on the map. This is Garry's biggest match of all time to this day.
How do you know this, how do you know that it wasn't just the way it played out. Imagine owing a guy for the first part and non of it counted. Only to come back on points and finish a guy to win.
It’s not even about who Tonon is, it’s how Kron came back from losing in points to finally getting the choke. Calm your tits fanboy

Love how he mentions the spirit taking over when you train hard. I’ve known many people in my time in MMA that won on spirit, even when chips were down, even when they were less skilled. I learned so much from them - the heart of the fighter and who wants it the most is what matters in the end.

I like that mindset of not thinking about scoring points. He had himself convinced that he HAD to get the submission and I believe that made all the difference. Great match, great video too.

This fight is one of the best of all time. What a match. Kron on that day was on point in every thing he did. Fuck it was the most amazing performance I saw in ADCC, one of the most in Jiu Jitsu. He dominated his opponents flawlessly. It was great. I'm really sad that he stopped competing because he was dope. His jiu jitsu is so good to watch.

I might get shouted down for this, but IMO Kron winning the ADCC was as big an achievement as anything his dad accomplished. Which is saying something.
Its krons advantage over others to grow up Gracie to have a dad who the best bjj praticioner ever one of.....and for kron to grow up all his life training bjj and learning weird tricks and having the knowledge of the Gracie fighting dynasty to pick from and learn from its a distinct advantage so to have the pressure of Rickson krons father at side of mat where krons competing I would say isnt much pressure the pros out weigh the cons with regards to krons father Rickson being mat side at krons bjj matches.... Surely of thing it creates at awesome air of invicibilty in the minds of krons opponent regarding krons air of invinibilty

He was literally just having fun. He says it all the time. He doesn't take BJJ that serious when it comes to wins and losses. It is just a grappling match. That is why he gives up his back all the time.

Why? To see him brag about his fake 400 + wins against white belts. This guy was the biggest poser of bjj history. When he could actually test himself for real he decided to hide behind wins over fat Japanese dudes. He wasn't a looser but he is far far away from this myth surrounding his name, different than Royce and even Renzo which I despise.

Kron has alot of heart. He showed me that against Cub Swanson. He took alot of punishment but he never broke. He kept coming forward. Granted that fight also showed he has to make ajustments if he's going to have success in mma. But he's got heart man
