I first heard this record while in high school in Ft Worth TX in 1964, Learned all the keyboard solos and parts. 1982 while in Los Angeles I was asked to join Eric for a year long tour. It was a thrill to be playing songs I copied 17 years earlier but we did quite a bit of new material and even wrote and recorded some new songs. I passed on the Animals reunion (Ark) in 1983 but played his 60th birthday in 2001 and recorded on his My Secret Life album. 2006 he asked me to tour with him again and and remembering what fun it was, I toured until 2016 because we had a lot of fun playing and creating on and offstage together. Many great memories. Hilton Valentine was
on the band for a year and a half too and when we were on the bus at times they would sing school songs they knew from Newcastle. Was wonderful to hear the stories. 2016 I stopped touring with him and he retired in 2018, Lots of great memories and lots of vids on my UA-cam channel and on UA-cam as well. Red Young...

It's probably more popular now then it was in 1964. The animals probably have more fans and followers then they did in 1964. Social media has given them the recognition they never received from the media in 1964.

Of course he did or you wouldn't be hearing him all these years later. He compromised the original lyrics for that worldly recognition you now enjoy. For example: "My mother was a Traitor. Sold my new blue jeans. " Burdon sang what the authorities wanted him to instead of the ugly truth. More people would have understood the reason for Katrina if they were aware of the ancient evil transported from Orlean.

...Eric Burdon and the Animals breathed soul into this song...THEY GAVE IT AN INDELIBLE TOUCH...sung in their image...they own it... others have attempted but none have been able to conjure up that spirit...they are imitations...

In 1964 I was 10 years old, I remember listening to this song on the way to Palmdale California to go target shooting in the desert, my family had a tape recorder with a whole bunch of songs in it and this was one of them, it was kind of a long trip from Los Angeles to Palmdale but it was a lot of fun, have a great day my friend
