Such an amazing kit for the price! It sounds so good with my Evans Ec2's and a Snare G2 on! Keeps in tune so well also. I tuned them 3 weeks ago and brought them to a gig today and they still sounded amazing after just a tiny bit of tweaking! I would say one of the best intermediate kits for the price!
@@lukelackermayer I would say I prefer this one. Pacific/pdp makes very priceworthy drums, I also have a cheap old Pacific F kit that i bought for just 250 bucks as an extra reherseal kit and after a little tuning sounds pretty decent(I even did a gig on it). The snare is the weak points on the Concept kits I would say(But not at all bad).
@@alexotoole8748 I have not played the Design series but it's probably better but I don't think the prices justifies the small differences. Kind of like a Epiphone or Gibson guitar but even less difference. The concept kit is much more worth the money I can almost guarantee. I own a concept and love it!
I was on the fence between the Pearl Decade and This PDP Concept. I think the pearl decade sounds great. What did it for me was the PDP Lugs,PDP has better finishes on the drums, The Mag-throw off system on the PDP snare, the true pitch system on the lugs and the drum hoops. The North American maple in my opinion is a great quality wood. I also took a listen to all of the pearl snares and the DW snares. The PDP concept snare sounds great, and the Pearl Decade snare also sounds amazing. But I’m wanting a pro level snare at some point. The DW black nickel over brass is legendary and I think it would sound really good with this PDP set. I think I like a lot of the DW Snares over the pearl snares. I also stumbled across this Nick D’virgilio Sweetwater video and I’m going to get on the phone and call my Sweetwater 💦🎸🥁sales rep Nolan Rye.
I have a pdp lx. I guess that's the older version of these. I love it. It's over 12 years old and it's so full. It sounds like it's mic'd when it's just natural. I've played a few gigs before no mics and everything cuts through.
Sick I have the pearl white 7 piece by the way the heads that come with the kit sucks compared to Remo or Evans heads but beside that I've had this for almost a year and I'm lovin it
iamsuchajerk Oh yes. The heads are so bad. Changed the kick and snare right after pulling it out of the boxes. The tom heads are okay-ish, and they bruice up really quick, but they'll do for now.
Got my eyes on the PDP Concept maple 6/7 piece.. But. The dealer also offers the TAMA superstar hype drive (not duo) 5 piece... Debating between the two. Would love to hear what you guys think about it.. Thanks 👍
I’ve been reading on some forums and they say the main difference between them is that dw gets first cut materials and they made them in the usa, and pdp gets second quality materials and they are made in mexico so thats why the price. I’ve also read that sound wise they are practically the same but it really depends on the drummer and his preferences.
Mark Mullen forgot to tell ya that I bought this pdp 5piece set yesterday for about 590usd that it’s really a bargain here in Chile. And dude I couldn’t be happier with it, it came with pinstripe heads and it sounds so warm, really amazing stuff. Sounds like a much pricey set for much less. Love it.
Hey im looking for a really good sounding drum kit but also affordable I keep getting recommended the Yamaha stage custom birch and the pdp maple concept but idk I want a really boomy kick drum and a punchy snare and also a consistent sound for live music
This or Tama Suoerstar Classic? Stuck between both 7 piece options. I like the look of this tom hardware better, but I like the Tama lacquer finishes more ahh
Does the kit come with a Tom mount? I've been looking at other shell packs, and they include a tom mount and floor Tom legs, but I've seen nothing about them with this kit...
I'm not sure if this reply is too late, but yes all the shell packs come with everything you need. So the 4-piece, 5-piece and 6-piece shell packs come with the legs for the floor toms and the mounting bracket for the rack toms on the bass drum. The 7-piece comes with all that plus the cymbal stand attachment for the 8" tom. You also get a muffling pillow for the bass drum that looks like a real pillow you'd use for a bed, and it attaches to the inside with Velcro if you wish to use it. You even get a pair of PDP 7A sticks. Also, if you were to get the Pearlescent Black shell pack, then everything is black: the shells, hoops, floor tom legs, rack tom mount bracket on the bass drum, and even the cymbal stand attachment for the 8" tom. The only parts that aren't black are the L rods in the rack tom mount and cymbal stand attachment and the tension rods (and of course the Concept Maple brand badges). Oh yeah, and the bass drum hoop has a rubber hoop protector pre-attached, but only on the inner part. I would use a 2nd one for the outer part. I learned all of this from various unboxing videos of the PDP Concept Maple. I've been trying to learn everything I can about the PDP Concept Maple series.
Hello, sorry for my English, he speaks the language. but I'll try at least ... I'm hesitant, if not buy a Mapex Armory or PDP Concept. PDP costs me a little more expensive, but this is no problem. It is to make music Rock, Heavy Metal ... etc Thank you!
You can see a few mic stands in the room, and one is visible in the reflection of the front bass drum head. It sounds like they were trying to capture the sound you'd hear if you were standing in front of the drums.
What kind of drumheads are on this drumset? And what other heads would be similar to them ? I wanna try to get the similar tone with my pdp spectrum kit
Hello, Sam! These kits come with PDP stock heads, but any one ply clear would be a drop in replacement. Remo makes the Ambassador clears that would be a perfect fit for the toms. A suitable replacement for the kick would be a Remo Powerstroke 3. Thanks for the interest! Cody Kraus, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1766, cody_kraus@sweetwater.com
Hi +WereFromUrFace. This depends on a few different factors and what your goals are musically. Give us a call at 800-222-4700 and we'll help you figure out which kit is best for you! Thanks!
+WereFromUrFace I play a PDP Concept 5 piece (exact same as on the video except with a Black Panther Mapex Steel snare), It's on my channel if you want to listen to it and i'd be glad to answer questions about the kit, i've had it for almost a year now.
I've had the PDP for almost a year now and nothing to report. It's all held up great, shells are good as new, finish is too and all the hardware is good too. I haven't tuned many different drums but i wouldn't say the pdp is hard to tune, and i actually still haven't changed the original heads so i'm sure that won't be a problem for you. I personally like using clear heads on all except snare and i like a nice clear, clean tone with good attack (i play mostly funk, rock and a lot of metal) so i hate that vintage, jazzy kind of sound. I really can't give you any cons as this is the best drum kit i've ever owned so i would say share any concerns or questions with me! Maybe one con would be the irregular sizes: if you plan on getting cases to transport the drums, you won't find them in a pack since the size configuration of the drumkit isn't your usual 10", 12", 14", 22" and 14" snare... i know i couldn't find any drum case packs with the right sizes for all my drums but oh well, no biggie, you'll just have to buy those individually if you need cases for your kit. And a 22" kick is quite nice anyways ;)
Thang Lian Cin I don't know I've always seemed to fall to Pearl they are really nice but PDP is great too I would go play them both and then decide because it's all about opinion
Thanks for the interest on these drums. Those are both great drums for the budget. The PDP of course is maple and the Yamaha is birch, so that is going to be the biggest difference. Here is a basic explanation of the differences (this is from Modern Drummer): Maple: Even amount of highs and mids, slightly warm lows. All-purpose. Birch: Boosted high frequencies, slightly reduced midrange, good low-end punch. Loud and cutting. If I can help any further with this decision, please feel free to contact me directly. Thanks.
