My mom always used to make Rasam in eeyam, venkalam my mom used to make sweets, piththalai needs coating of tin before being used for cooking . For shraardham only piththalai items are used for cooking and the ritual. Hope this helps until you get a video from Mami.
Eeyam vessels or eeyam coated vessels can be used for preparing rasam as well as sambar.vengalam pathram can be used to cook rice,as in vengala paanai.Vengalam can also be used for any recipes that has tamarind and or paruppu,but it should be transferred to another normal vessel after 2 or 3 hours(maximum).Because tamarind and the salt that we add in paruppu preparations will have corrosive action (kacchi pogarthu).Pithala is not generally advised for cooking ,however,they are the best for serving food for religious functions(esp srardham).
