There is a story I can share about recording this song at London Bridge Studios in Seattle. Members of the Seattle Symphony were in the studio to record the string part. One of the violinists complimented my voice on this track asking me if I wrote the lyrics and melodies. Very few people ever asked me that question, and it was nice that someone realized that the voice is indeed an instrument, and there is a difference in being a singer or a singer/songwriter. When I replied that I did write the lyrics and melodies and co arranged the songs, and pretty much produced myself during the recording of the album, he told me my work showed great musicianship. I was so humbled by this compliment as he was so gifted and disciplined in his craft. Here I was a young woman pursuing my passion with all the insecurities that go along with that pursuit, and the struggles that women (even in the 90s) went through in the industry...He made me feel validated as an artist and a songwriter. Thanks to you Mr. violinist for being wonderful.
OMG I've always wanted to tell you how much I love this song! I heard a DJ play it at a club and asked him who it was. I instantly fell in love with it. I love your vocal on it! It's fierce! Also, I think you have a very musical ear. The melody is so beautiful and I think that’s part of what that violinist picked up on...your musicality, singing and writing-wise. :) This song instantly transports me to when I was a young man with Broadway dreams in New York city (‘95), scared and excited by everything. :)
Sucks that they didn't put the song on the soundtrack, this and How by the Cranberries were my two favorite from the movie, which a song a minute mind you. I ended up purchases your album just for this song. Hope you're still at it and doing what you love.
I remember watching you in Portland on New Years with Candlebox and Greta. Absolutely one of my favorite concerts ever and I actually called London Bridge studio later and spoke to you and went up to watch you with I think Love on Ice. You were definitely a band that should have blown up in that era. How I'd love to have gotten a follow up to the first amazing album.
