Laying in bed with a college sweetheart as this song, played, as we fell asleep in my college dorm room...many years later re-connecting with that same girl, and then one night her recording a drunken emotional breakdown that I had, then watching that video the next day, and then how that started the road to my sobriety,...thats changed my life exponentially for the better...this song brings the flood of those bitter sweet memories...had to break up with that girl couldn't do sobriety and a long distance relationship, I will die forever grateful to her soul...thats what this song does for me...
"Over Pine Ridge to Wounded Knee, there's blood on the ground as far as you see" This song still makes me cry that someone would craft such an incredible piece of music to memorialize the fights and losses the Native community in one little corner of the state I live in. For many years I lived just a short drive from Pine Ridge, and I've seen the land where it all went down. "It's not over" ...and it won't be, not till some very old wrong are righted.
This song is incredibly moving. I feel like they were a conduit from the other side on this one. Regardless of who won that (huge blemish on the United States history) battle, it is a long journey that we are all going through. What happened to our native Americans is wrong, What was perceived as victory was not a victory. We all have to work through this and there will be no mercy until we figure it out the right way. Sadly, amazingly grounded souls will die along the way.
This brings back some of the best memories of my life just being young and hanging with my best friend who’s since passed away… It’s hard not to cry when I hear this song. It always overwhelms me and transports me back in time… Oh Anne. I’d never even heard of Toad the Wet Sprocket or Big Head Todd and The Monsters until you played them for me… I’m remembering now us being 20 and 21 in our bikinis listening to this song out by the pool! 🌹
God, I feel old. Played this song over and over in my first place. (before I followed a girl cross country to my second place). Then spent 13 years in the US Army and was all over. This song reminds me of when things were simple and no one was shooting at me...Miss those days...
My eyes are filled with tears as a read a comment about wife and her late husband. My dear David loved this band, it reminds me of him. Thank you David for all the great music
brand new radio station in Austin Tx and they are rocking songs just like this one.. such a breath of fresh air.. THANK YOU ... THE FRINGE. 105.3 FM JB AND SANDY!!
There is a revival inbound, I saw these guys at Aquinas college in Grand Rapids , MI in 95' with a girl that will never remember, and I will never forget! Hugs and kisses Rebecca Geer!
They've been playing to sold out crowds for over a decade now. Check their website. I see them, Gin Blossoms and Vertical Horizon in August. My last TtWS concert was 2012. Seen loads more solo Glen shows, which are fantastic BTW.
i was born in 91 and i remember hearing this song on the radio and now everytime i hear it i can't help but to smile and feel great bcs of the amazing sound and lyrics
First heard this as a track on Empire Records OST and it's one of my all time best tracks. Very underrated, Very under played, But glad it's my very own special track.
One of my favourite movies, so sad they had to drop so much from the movie as well due to studio demands :( still hoping for that extra long directors cuts some time in the future
Heard this guy play this song as I waited at the light. I asked what song is this cause the music and the instruments are just so organic. I love it .. I felt the soul of the song just listening from his car... .. he said crazy life by toad sprocket. I typed it crazy life and boom I'm here... This is beautiful. So much depth!!!

I can’t help but reminisce whenever I hear Toad songs. There is happiness and there is sadness in remembering times that get so much farther away. College days in the early 90s...we had fun and I miss it with smiles and tears. Friends have come and gone yet the memories are forever in a time when music was magical and Toad was and is magic.
The early 90's---just graduated college--had my own sparsely furnished apartment, and alternative/grunge music was considered "cool". Before everyone had a cell phone glued to the side of their face, a time when we survived WITHOUT the Internet. I had a beeper, phone card, and FM radio and watched "Beavis and Butthead" on MTV late at night. Those days are gone. But I would go back in a heartbeat if I were asked. I was happily addicted to "Melrose Place". It's true, "It's not over."
"It's not over" just because your life is in chaos. Clarity and better times are just around the corner. I love this song because it has helped me in some of the darker periods of my life.
actually this song is about AIM member, leonard peltier who was convicted of shooting a Federal Agent on pine ridge , wounded knee reservation. many feel that he was wrongly convicted, so when they are saying its not over, they are referring to the legal fight to exonerate him
This was the soundtrack to my life ! : ) brings back so many memories of growing up in Spain on the military base with all my friends .. miss those days !
Met my wife 10 years ago online, craigslist actually-- no lie, and our first date was seeing Glen play solo at a street festival in San Diego (got Glen to sign her arm, and that night she got it tattooed on her arm) We've been together ever since. 15+ Toad the Wet Sprocket concerts later-- still together (going to see them tonight in Pasadena). This is my favorite song, and Todd is singing (sorry Glen). Timeless good music (and I am metal head, go figure). Enjoy life while you have it!
Leonard Peltier (born September 12, 1944) is a Native American activist and member of the American Indian Movement (AIM). In 1977 he was convicted and sentenced to two consecutive terms of life imprisonment for first degree murder in the shooting of two Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents during a 1975 conflict on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
Thank you Toad the Wet Sprocket for immortalizing a great man and bringing to attention one of the nations worst cases of Federal injustice! What a beautiful song! FREE Leonard Peltier!
Leonard Pelletier isn't the innocent man people believe he is. He ordered the murder of Annie Mae Aquash a Mi'kmaq woman from Eastern Canada because he believed she was a spy for the FBI. It was a drug fuelled time in Pine Ridge and paranoia was setting in on AIM. Annie Mae was a step daughter of my great uncle and she left behind 3 daughters of her own. i think he deserves every hour he serves behind those bars! #JusticeForAnnieMae
it's just one of those days. i gotta get back to me. back to the start of things. back to when things were...clearer, if they ever were clear at all. i love this band.

'90s had great music just right for falling in love, in true love and finding something that could blossom. This music sounded so great on the drive to Ozette or when playing on the stereo in the other room while the two of you lazed in the bath together. To have that is everything and thankfully the music remains to go back again.

No doubt the best underrated band of all time, especially during the 90s
I agree.. totally underrated.. it was their name..I'm serious

This is my favorite Toad The Wet Sprocket song. I also like "Walk On The Ocean". But, this is the best.
This song is just one of those "time machine" songs, you hear those first distorted chords and it's like boom, your back in the 90's.

He's in there and you're on the outside
Over pine ridge to wounded knee
There's blood on the ground as far as you see

In the air i'm sensing a change in weather
In the end the path is clear
Does anyone remember here
Did you all think he'd just disappear
Crazy life
What've you done with Peltier
Who do you think you''ve taken away?
Crazy life
In the air i'm sensing a change in weather
In the end the path is clear
Burying won't stop it breathing forever
Underground it takes to root

Here's my memory of the song. my mom let me borrow her Suburban to drive only when I was 14 and I was supposed to stay in the neighborhood but I went outside and my dad was coming the other way and caught me and I got in some deep shit but I remember blasting this song on repeat throughout that whole process. it was amazing and yes I'm old:)

They just started their tour. Go see them. I saw them on Thursday at The Belly Up. They never sounded better. Glen's voice is still powerful.
