Do you actually own and have taken plenty of time using it with your own applications....or are you posting an "opinion" from a distance as most other Apple haters. Getting tired of these people who have never used something to express their uneducated opinions about it.
It's my first Apple laptop, and i am loving it, and after transfering some 8 gigs from an USB-C pen in less than a minute, i don't complain about the ports anymore, and the display and the sound are the best in the market.
I have a late 2013 MBP 13" that I upgraded the beginning of this year to a 27" 5K iMac (late 2015 model) For me the iMac is a better deal then a new Macbook Pro at this point as I prefer a desktop over a laptop. I got the top line standard configuration with the core i5 3.3 Ghz turbo up to 3.9 (quad core skylake) standard 8GB Ram 2 TB fusion drive AMD R9 M395 graphics. I got 32 GB ram from Amazon via 2 16 GB kits with 2 8 GB sticks each. I got a ups for battery backup and AppleCare for a little under $3,000. I'm really pleased with the setup and the way I was able to balance costs and got a good all around price for the whole setup instead of just putting one big chunk into one thing and then spending extra that I didn't need to. Great video as always, have a great day!
I recently purchased a new MacBook Pro, and went through three different ones before I made my decision. I started with a 2016 13" non-TB version; it was nice, but I needed a bigger screen. I then got the 2015 base model 15 inch, which was more powerful, but the unibody was defective, it had a terrible creak to it. I couldn't even rest my palms while typing without the machine creaking, even pressing the track pad had the same effect; turns out that many people have this issue with rMBPs. So I finally made the jump to a 2016 15 inch, and I'm beyond pleased. Yes the machine is more than a base 2015 15 inch, but it's the same price as the dGPU version of the 2015 rMBP. But it also has a better keyboard, speakers, screen, it's thinner, and better performance than the base 2015 15" model as well. Of course this is all personal preference, but for somebody who's buying a new macbook for the first time since 2011, the 2016 version is an excellent purchase over the 2015 model with a dGPU.
Thanks. It's tough for me to listen to reviewers yell and scream about the minimal battery life, useless touchbar, and loud keys when typing. I don't find myself connectng too much to my macbook pro. Yet, purchasing adapters seem costly to me as well. I appreciate Apple's attempt to innovate a design that no one else has. Now, if I can only cough up the bucks to buy one:)!
Using 7.5GB - when opening programs with no projects loaded into them. If you're using FCPX alone, you can pass 16GB usage on 4K edits. The fast SSD will usually be enough for most people, but for serious large scale edits 32GB would be appreciated.
Don't get me wrong, for sure the majority of complainers never pass these limits, lol. But I'm talking feature length edits, were I assume you mostly do youtube length.
Glowing apple logo should be brought back, that's what is the most beautiful thing of macbook, and removing ports isn't good idea, it's totally a bullshit.
Good review and I generally agree with your assessment. I upgraded from a 2013 to a 2016 MBP and I'm pretty pleased. The form-factor, screen, fingerprint sensor and overall performance are my favorite aspects of the laptop. While the new keyboard took me a few days to get used to, I now find my typing experience to be excellent. While the touch bar is interesting, the addition of the fingerprint sensor is incredibly useful. Aside from unlocking the laptop, the ability to access OS functions with my fingerprint, where a password would usually be required, is very nice. Also, the added benefit of Apple Pay is both convenient and much more secure than punching my credit card into websites. For me, this laptop was a good upgrade and I believe it to be a worthy successor in the venerable MBP line.
This is an awesome and well balanced review. The ram discussion is so annoying and I don't know how many people actually use over 16 gigs of RAM. Also, the whole dongle thing is way too overstated. You can get a Dongle that does basically most of those from Amazon for $49. Also GeekBench is as you said very deceiving when comparing to real life performance. So many tech bloggers who hate Apple just cause they think it's cool to won't even do a proper review and rely on GeekBench for their angle. But again, great vid. I will subscribe! :)
When looking at ram usage in activity monitor you want to subtract the section "cached files" from "memory used". macOS will put files from the SSD into RAM like a ramdisk to speed things up and the computer will do this to always keep at least half of the memory full.
zollotech omg you replied thank you so so so so much. I also have a UA-cam channel called RS GAMING the logo is a guy cartoon with glasses. It would mean a lot if you could check it out. Thanks a lot for replying. Great channel. Can't wait to tell my family and friends about your channel and tell them to subscribe to your channel
I like your videos a lot and the new intro is great, but saying this is "better than you thought" and then not being sincerely able to recommend it to 2015 MacBook users is kinda weird. And what "PRO" stands for? One looks PRO if carrying a bag full of dongles around? USB-C only is a 2019. thing, at the moment it is ridiculous, especially with the current accessory prices.
+Stefan Ivanovic Apple calls their more expensive laptops Pro. It's a good laptop, but I cannot recommend it for that price. USB-C will be everywhere within 6-12 months and apple has always pushed connectivity or lack there of forward.
zollotech USB c will be every where in 3 years not in six months I got the 2015 MacBook 💻 I will upgrade in 4 years all my stuff is USB 3 n all works good till 3 more years r so
+TEXAZPITBULL that just depends what you use today. Most new Windows PCs have at least one USB C port and just about every Mac. While almost every android phone has one now.
+TEXAZPITBULL also, most Businesses upgrade every three years, so depending where they are in the lifecycle of that can make a difference.. However, since everything has it you'll see a lot more accessories with it soon.
I've found the most use for the Touch Bar on Microsoft Word Online. You can choose audio correct way after. You can fast forward ads on UA-cam, you can fast forward videos on Instagram. The speakers are awesome and overall the quality of build is nice. Touch ID is a major plus as we;l. Ill get used to the PhotoShop use in time.
Is it a compromise though? I feel that they could have easily have put all the old IO on it. I feel like Apple is making a product that will force the market of hardware developers to adopt usbC integration much faster. This is reminiscent of the removal of the floppy disc drive or CD drives on previous models of theirs. I know when the original MacBook Air came out people freaked out in a very similar way, saying Apple had lost their minds and were going downhill. Now that form factor is the standard.
Great review! I'm a double major in computer science and design in college where I'm going to be doing a lot of programming and using programs like photoshop, premier unity, sketch, and maybe unreal. Would you suggest the 15 over the 13?
+Lauren Suna the 13 handles graphics intensive programs just fine, but if you're going to have a lot of them open at once and using heavy graphics then I would suggest the 15. I actually edited the last two videos I did in 4k on the 13inch just fine.
Hey there I have a question for you, I saw you were using a 2013 MacBook Pro 15 there (I think) I was wondering can you run dual 4k at 60hz connected via mini DP to DP ? I know this is an random question 👽 I'm trying to consider if this is worth upgrading too or not. Thank you for your videos and for your time 🤓
the only thing is dislike is that apple did NOT include the USB-C adapter inside the box. Theyre selling it separately, knowing that we NEED the adapter. If they included USB-C adapter in the first place i dont think it anyone would complain since the USB-C actually speed things up
rizky orbandi the problem then is that producers of accessories will not have the incentive to make them use the USB-c as their standard. You sometimes have to force the market and in 2-3 years time all new printers, scanners, cameras will have USB-c connections. Yes for early adopters it may be more expense, but if you are paying $3000 for a laptop you shouldn't complain about paying a bit more. Anyway I already have the adapters for my MacBook so I don't need to buy any for a MacBook Pro. People will always moan, you can please some of the people some of the time...
I got mine10 days ago (switched from a MBP 2012) and I agree with Your findings in general. When this machine was announced I was a bit disappointed because of the lack of 'kick ass' improvements but just a few cosmetic gimmicks but I needed a new machine and so I went with it. I like the keyboard, the screen (much better colours) and the touch bar is slowly growing on me. That big touch pad does nothing extra for me and the price of that machine is a clean rip off, no doubt about that ( I knew that beforehand ). I think it's a good computer but nothing mind blowing.
I don't even think the first part of the statement is necessarily true. On older macs with 4GB RAM I've given a few family members computers new life with Windows, macOS seems the heftier OS nowadays. Besides, the OS is only 1-2GB out of whatever large scale project is using a lot of RAM, on the high end the OS matters less.
Hey nice video. Im looking for a new laptop mainly for watching movies, browsing and listening to music and for something will last for at least 5-10 years. Im not in to games or video editing, sometimes i do photo shop. At the moment i have 17' windows laptop but its crashing all the time after updating to windows 10 and its so anointing, im sick of window thats why im thinking of switching to mac. Would you recommend anything?
Casey Perkins Please give me some feedback. I'm considering buying the 15 inch Macbook Pro with touch bar. Is it worth upgrading to 1000gb SSD and 2.9GHz ? I want this machine to be semi-future proof and last me a good couple years. I plan on doing some video/ photo editing. Any tips are appreciated! 🙏🏼
I'm in in your channel, and i love your reviews, it's very detailed. Can you advise me, it's my first time purchasing a laptop. I'm confused between Asus Zenbook 3 1TB SSD and 16GB Ram vs. 2016 MacBook Pro base model 256GB, 8GB Ram no touch bar. This 2 laptop i mentioned is same price here in Saudi Arabia. Which one is the best for my money?
thanks for your awesome vid, Ive got a quick question, Im on the fence between 2017 13 with touch bar $1800 and 15 with touch bar $2400. I will be using Final Cut pro for editing, and all my vid will be less than 10min. would it be ok to go with 13inch or go with 15inch?
I had been looking to replace my 2008 17" MBP. I admit I think the new models are very sexy, but I haven't seen any review that gives it two big thumbs up. So I went with a virtually new but used 2015.
I'm loving mine too a lot coming from a 2012 rMBP. The price is totally fair IMO. Apple's MBP is the best machine on the market by far and other lesser makers are charging similar prices for much inferior devices. Much of the noise people were making when this was released was from people who haven't even used the machine.
Oh really? What would you be plugging in so much while you're on the go? I hear this argument and honestly it seems more of a cop out rant. Most people do their editing at home or possibly taking their camera on the go with them to edit which only needs one USB plug. So tell me what are all these peripherals that you would be plugging in while on the go that concerns you about needing to carry so many adapters? I'm waiting...
Wesley Jordan Why is the comment aimed at photographers / video makers? I'm an engineer and fortunately I don't have to trouble much but others j work with do. They would need different adapters for different video sources they might need at customer sites, ethernet adapters, maybe a USB C adapter incase they need to plug in a memory stick etc. I'm desk bound mainly so having all of the adapters wouldn't be too annoying but I can see why for some it would be. Due to the price increase anyway even my employer (huge huge IT company) is possibly not rolling out these new MBP to staff due to the added cost of the laptop and the adapters.
oli3659 There hasn't been a Macbook Pro for years with an ethernet plug built in. Therefore an adapter would be needed for your friend's usages. But since you mentioned that your friends would be going to customer's sites, then at this point this adapter argument is really silly. A professional carries his tools with him and if little adapters are a problem then those people don't take their work seriously. At the end of the day the computer is still doing the work, you're just connecting the proper equipment to it. Is that so hard? I actually never said a word about video editing. Not sure why you brought that up. But since I did mention about photography, ever see a photographer with a crap load of lenses, tripods, monopods, speedlights, multiple memory cards, etc. Those are a photographers tools that they have to carry with them when they do weddings. They deal with it because it gets the job done, and yes I do photography and it's tough job carrying all of that around. I don't see how a few adapters to connect your Macbook Pro is really that bothersome. Oh the irony in today's computer users. They call themselves so computer literate and will go as far as build a computer, but they cry about a few adapters to connect. SMH.
What about someone coming from a 12" MacBook 2016 who was waiting for the pro for a while and bought the 12" I could sell the 12". The 15" looks amazing in person, that screen is awesome. It would be the base model 15 I don't need the specs tbh, just love the screen.
+jorge santos why would you allocate all of your ram to the VM's. The majority of people who run many VM's use server hardware with tons of ram and storage.
I can't wait to buy the Rose Gold MacBook. As someone who has never owned a Mac I think it will be just fine for me because I won't be sitting there thinking about what the old keyboard was like or how this or that was better on the one last year or the year before. None of that for me because it will ALL be new! All be away from Windows that I hate!
Beside it's really good, powerful and everything you've said i think trackpad is too much big unnecessary really, touchbar is good I think but not so much ports really nerves me the most.
I have good feeling that in the near future Apple will be making good use of the larger trackpad. It's that size for a reason. Too many people look at what's in the glass right now. SMH.
Hope so man I am big apple fan but at the moment they are struggling in inovations I mean big inovations, gonna wait iPhone 8 heard lots of good things.
Mixin Gamble Let's be honest about it. Who's truly doing any big innovations? Not a single computer company. And honestly, what do you or the rest of us truly need right now in computing that we're missing? Apple's computers are very good and stable in the business. Too many people are looking to Apple ONLY for the magic potion and I would say that's not fair. I would love to see other companies with "big innovations" to move the industry. I don't see it. I would say Apple does the most in moving the industry forward while the other companies try to remain "safe".
Mixin Gamble *well they are inovators* Who, Apple? Because if you're expecting Apple to be the only innovator then you're being unfair and you're not helping the industry. Every company needs to be innovative. It's so funny how people attack Apple if they don't innovate certain years, when nobody else is. But oh glory be, let's not attack those other multi-billion dollar companies for not innovating, let's only expect Apple to do it. SMH.
I really like the 15" 2016 MBP but the price is just ridiculous, base price of $3599AUD here in Australia, I'm just glad I'm able to get an education discount, still doesn't offset the price by much, dropping it down to $3369AUD. Currently own a base model mid 2012 15" rMBP which cost me $2249AUD. Apart from the price everything looks really good. USB Type-C doesn't really bother me as it is where things are heading, it's what I use on my phone already and I have OTG adapters already. If I wasn't saving for my Japan trip next year I'd be saving for this and buying it ASAP. Very impressed with everything except price.
*2020 MacBook Pro: 0 ports, and an entirely digitised keyboard*. I can't stand the thin keypad, it's ridiculous! The spongey feel of models prior to 2016 were so much better, wtf is Apple thinking up there?!
+Erik Lundberg SSD's have a longer life than hard drives these days and will last years even doing read/writes 24/7. Also, since there are no moving parts they are less likely to fail. However, I would rather have the MacBook Pro be slightly thicker and have an m.2 slot.
Hopefully they will last long but there is no guarantee for that. I still think that flash drives and batteries are consumables that needs to be replaceable. Especially in this price range. My current Macbook Pro is from 2008 and still works fine. I have upgraded it with an Intel SSD. When I buy a new one I want to be able to keep it for at least 10 years and I want to be able to replace faulty parts if it is necessary.
The MacBook Pro 2016 is my first mac and i dont have any reasons to complain about USB Type C. I Love it. It keeps the mac flat and if i Need it i can Plug in my USB Stick wich has Type A and c or i use a dongle who cares? My PC mainboard has USB Type c too so i can use my stuff there too
Hi Aaron, Apple claims that we can charge the MacBook Pro from any of the usb ports provided, does it mean we can charge the MacBook Pro simultaneously with multiple chargers to increase the speed of the charging?
No, it will only except a charge from one input but it can be any of them. If you plug in another it just ignores the voltage coming in in picks the highest voltage
My Mac is 2012, is the regular Macbook Pro without the touchbar pretty much the same as the one with it just minus the touch bar? Also my 2012 Macbook pro has super low volume, cant even her it without headphones.
+SuperAwesomeMusician worth the money, no. But if you need a new Mac the iMac is the better deal. I have one for editing and love it, but it’s overpriced.
Alright sorry for the comment then, I didnt know that. I just saw other users and sites reporting that Apple is trying to get social media influencers to say positive things about the new macbook to increase sales.
+wazzuppoo no problem. I think a lot of people misunderstand and think apple is paying people if the review is positive. The MacBook is actually decent, but way too expensive.
+MZ Cubing that depends, The 15 inch is more powerful but it's larger. If you don't need a dedicated graphics card and a quad core processor then get the 13 inch
Could you try to use the keyboard+trackpad with only your left hand (that's my problem, I have a crippled arm). I would like to know what happens (when you want to switch to the right part of the keyboard (like u/i/o/p)) to the trackpad, since it's so big with the new Pro. I hope you can try this for me :)
my macbook pro 13 early 2015 with 16G RAM runs out of memory pretty quick(with 2 or 3 apps open) usually like 1 or 2GB left. meanwhile my windows 10 pc(8GB RAM) with 20chrome tabs, steam, and a few games running, never run out of memory. it has a slower cpu but runs much faster than my macbook.
Who is watching in 2024 as a frontend developer i was working on my MacBook pro 2015 16gb ram 512ssd now i just bought 2016 MacBook pro 15inch retina 16gbram 500ssd its good for me not that bad working fine 👍 but the adapter problem over all everything is ok 😉
DSLR's the modern ones all file transfer via wifi so that is what apple is thinking about that's why no SD card slot, also you don't need dongles you just need the right devices and cables, and if you need the connectivity still get a DOCK!! Not adapters like a hydra dock for example has everything you need and all you take is one item
Where did they try to save a few bucks? It was all compromise for thinness. That's why they used USB-C, that's why they removed the glowing apple logo and that's why then went with a low TDP GPU.
Sterling Jordan I do, I have had a PowerBook, MacBook in my life since the 100. So if I'm saying, I've moved on, there is something wrong. As such I simply felt the competition provided me more with what I wanted and frankly needed. Not the end of the world, maybe Apple will release something I want in the future, that's the great thing about competition.
Hey, If I'd be buying the MBP 15" 2016 with this config, would it still be reliable for video editing using FCPX? (Or should I just consider the MBP 13" version) 2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, 3.5GHz 16GB 2133MHz memory *256GB PCIe-based SSD (I'll buy an external drive instead) **Radeon Pro 460, 4GB memory (maybe the only upgrade I'll pay for?) I often get my video clips from my GoPro set at, 1080p and 4k all the time and I also use Adobe Lightroom for my photography using raw files. So considering these factors, should I get the 15" or the 13"? What should I upgrade for my needs (if I need to)? Thanks!
+Planet Poseidon it's plenty fast for editing that content. I often times still use a 2013 MacBook Pro and it handles it no problem. I have also used the 201613 inch MacBook Pro and it also handles 4K video without an issue.
zollotech Thank you for looking into this and giving me choices! I needed help from a pro cause I was having a hard time understanding the specs. This helped a lot! :)
Sorry to deflect from your review here but you seem to know your stuff and I'm desperate for help on how to fix my Spanish Mac book pro keyboard. The symbols don't correlate mostly, some do and the letters and numbers are fine it's just the things like forward slash and a multitude of other symbols that aren't in the right place.Would you know how to fix this? or anyone else who could help?I'd really appreciate your help.I guess I should post on a forum but this was an impulse thing and apologies for detracting from your review.
Yep,I did that as soon as I got it.English is my main language and Spanish as the second.I'll have a fiddle around in System Preferences again and see if it makes a difference.
I won't be buying this computer this time around. I have a mid 2012 rMBP (1st gen) that has served me well for the past four years, I waited what seemed like forever for a new, faster macbook pro. Apple just haven't delivered, removing ports that creative pros rely on, and putting a rubbish, underpowered AMD GPU in there that could be outdone in so many ways by nvidia's more powerful and more efficient architecture. The CPU I can live with, I know Intel haven't moved on much with performance in laptop CPUs, the 3720QM is only a touch slower than the 6700HQ. But Apple also raised the price to just stupid levels. There's no value in these products anymore. I have since bought a 14 inch Razer blade with the same CPU and a GTX 1060 - and some usable ports - but we'll see what life is like without macOS. I used to love Apple products, they were the pinnacle of design and build quality. They sort of still are, but they're not professional machines anymore. Just chic products for brainwashed consumers.
well that's cool, but I meant data scientists or similar. I am a statistician and I work with lots of data. I have a MBP 15 inch early 2011 which is still rocking, but it's getting the time to replace it so I am wondering which version would be the best for my usage (2016 vs 2015)
+Quinton Cannataci you won't see major speed improvements, but if you want it for the better screen, touchbar and USB-c then it's good. Otherwise wait until they update the processors later this year
Not talking to the reviewer- it was a great review indeed. Just talking to the isheep out there. I cant believe that one of the biggest gripes Apple iSheep have is that the Apple logo does not light up and they cant show off their shiny little toys anymore!!! "it told other people that this was something different". How Pathetic! Do you have any idea how pathetic, cheap and disturbing that illuminated logo is to others who are trying to sleep on a long haul flight in a dark cabin or any other dark environment? And no I am not a window user. Have about a dozen Apple gadgets in home- including this MacBook Pro 2016 13 inch 1TB SSD, 16GB RAM. And I am about to get the new 13 inch touch-bar model- same specs as above. THANK GOD they got rid of that nonsensical illuminated "apple logo". Good Riddance. I was sick of that cheap trinket. PS: You iSheep do realize that it was only a cut-out in the 'aluminum' body and it was the screen light showing through the cutout, and the logo never really was "illuminated" in real sense?
I know its old, just heard you mentioned it in the review, when talking about the fan speed. Checked your channel and there was only an unboxing. Ive watched a lot of reviews of it, just thought i missed one.
+'Ainoa Manuia I would advise against getting a Mac Pro. I use it and when compressing single pass h.264 video, the core-m MacBook is much faster even due to the quick-sync for h.264 on the chip. If you have large tasks and a ton of stuff running then the pro is great. It's always silent too.
I understand, that is the benefit of newer hardware. Have you done any advanced effects projects? Cause I'm using a dual-core MacBook Pro and when i mess around with layers of particles in Motion 5, the interface bogs down. Another reviewer says that all of the quad-core processors and above, in his testing were very responsive. I really want to try out the Mac Pro to see how the GPUs handle the interface. Ive heard that one GPU draws the interface while the other handles processing.
Like the intro or no?
i like the intro

Who doesn't like colours? Nice intro!
Intro music no, I preferred the old one
zollotech simple is always better. My 6 year old Dell latitude e6400 atg is still going like a champ
What do you think of the new MacBook Pro?
zollotech I think it's not that good for the price
Do you actually own and have taken plenty of time using it with your own applications....or are you posting an "opinion" from a distance as most other Apple haters. Getting tired of these people who have never used something to express their uneducated opinions about it.
Its a good laptop, but is not a good value for the prics
Price*
It's my first Apple laptop, and i am loving it, and after transfering some 8 gigs from an USB-C pen in less than a minute, i don't complain about the ports anymore, and the display and the sound are the best in the market.
Cool camera work on the intro!
+cigarobsession thanks!
I have a late 2013 MBP 13" that I upgraded the beginning of this year to a 27" 5K iMac (late 2015 model)
For me the iMac is a better deal then a new Macbook Pro at this point as I prefer a desktop over a laptop.
I got the top line standard configuration with the core i5 3.3 Ghz turbo up to 3.9 (quad core skylake)
standard 8GB Ram
2 TB fusion drive
AMD R9 M395 graphics.
DJ Sambroak how is the battery performance? Some ppl say it doesnt even last 5 hours surfing the web...
This a nice comprehensive review. Thanks for sharing your experience so far.
+lsmeteor thanks!
also, zollotech, the reason the geek bench is barley noticeable, is cause skylake doesn't turbo boost as fast as the other chips...
I'm upgrading from the 15" MacBook Pro from 2009! So it'll be a big upgrade for me! Can't wait to get it before the new year😁! Thank for the breakdown
I bought MacBook Pro 13 inch and I couldn't be happier. I had MacBook Air before and I love Pro. It is amazing. Great video
Professional intro and great video Aaron
+Stephens Tech reviews thanks!
Using 7.5GB - when opening programs with no projects loaded into them. If you're using FCPX alone, you can pass 16GB usage on 4K edits. The fast SSD will usually be enough for most people, but for serious large scale edits 32GB would be appreciated.
+tipoomaster I never pass 16GB when editing 4K. My Mac Pro had 64GB of RAM and it stayed around 11.
+tipoomaster however, with much longer edits in sure you could.
Don't get me wrong, for sure the majority of complainers never pass these limits, lol. But I'm talking feature length edits, were I assume you mostly do youtube length.
+tipoomaster for sure
Man you read all the comments! Great review btw!
Glowing apple logo should be brought back, that's what is the most beautiful thing of macbook, and removing ports isn't good idea, it's totally a bullshit.
The cool thing about the glowing logo is the decal stickers i have the yin & yang on mine.
Brian C how did you get the apple thing in your reply?
My 2016 MacBook Pro is supposed to arrive 2 days from now! Upgrading from a 2008 MacBook Pro so I think it's going to be well worth it :D
John Manning I just upgraded from my 2009 MBP.
How’s it holding up? I just bought a refurbished one so I’m curious
Having the SSD soldered onto the logicboard was the deal breaker for me.
+Nick Chambers yeah. That definitely stinks
Great vid btw! I upgraded from the 2013 MacBook Pro 13" and have the 15" 2.6-i7, with 512GB and for me it was worth the upgrade.
Great video. What would you advise coming from a 2011 mbp? upgrade to the 2016? or buy a 2015 model?
One of the best reviews out there, very well put together. Very bias and actually reviewing the product 👍🏼
When looking at ram usage in activity monitor you want to subtract the section "cached files" from "memory used". macOS will put files from the SSD into RAM like a ramdisk to speed things up and the computer will do this to always keep at least half of the memory full.
you should take that computer back, the Touch ID on my 13' MacBook Pro with touch bar doesn't wobble at all and is very solid.
Great channel just came across it and liked the video and subscribed . You got anew daily fan
+Rajan Singh thank you
zollotech omg you replied thank you so so so so much. I also have a UA-cam channel called RS GAMING the logo is a guy cartoon with glasses. It would mean a lot if you could check it out. Thanks a lot for replying. Great channel. Can't wait to tell my family and friends about your channel and tell them to subscribe to your channel
+Rajan Singh will do.
I have a MacBook Air, 4gb of ram. I can open all may mac apps( mora then 50) and still I have ram left.
Liked the intro, snazzy!
i honestly got tired of the lit apple logo
***** yea the chrome is much more sophisticated
Shibby yes i love the design of macbooks but the plastic lit logo looks weird especially when it's unlit
Sic Semper Beats yep
Is it a compromise though? I feel that they could have easily have put all the old IO on it. I feel like Apple is making a product that will force the market of hardware developers to adopt usbC integration much faster. This is reminiscent of the removal of the floppy disc drive or CD drives on previous models of theirs. I know when the original MacBook Air came out people freaked out in a very similar way, saying Apple had lost their minds and were going downhill. Now that form factor is the standard.
thx for the review, now i know what my mac will be able for, when i get it
Great review!
Good to know, thank you so much
Did your 13inch have the i7 processor or the i5?
USP-C is different in that it is a standard developed by those over USB and with the help of Apple and google as well as others.
Best review On 2016 I have viewed.
Thank you
I got mine10 days ago (switched from a MBP 2012) and I agree with Your findings in general.
Takuan how's the battery life going for you?
I've read that some people have sub par battery performance but mine has worked as advertised so far. I hope it stays that way.
+Takuan mine was pretty decent
+zollotech "pretty decent" aka ?
Great review. I think they are a great performing laptop.
I loved this video. Great intro!!
I totally get that macOS doesn't require much RAM, but the amount of money you're paying should atleast give you the option for 32GB.
Any newer MacBook Pro would be fine for that
hey great video, im looking for a new laptop mainly for watching movies and web browsing, would you recommend any of mac laptops?
+Bert Kol any of them handle that just fine.
16GB ram hasn't been an issue for me. Granted I do push it over the edge at times running my crawlers. But other than that, it's absolutely fine.
+Louie Fajardo thank you. That really comes down to if you want windows or Mac. I prefer Mac OS personally, but get whichever you use.
thanks for your awesome vid,
Ive got a quick question, Im on the fence between 2017 13 with touch bar $1800 and 15 with touch bar $2400.
I upgraded from a 2012 macbook pro retina to the 2016
PKTV how do you like it?
Andi Britz. When it arrives finally next week i will tell you :)
which version did you get?
Andi Britz. Maxed out 15 inch i will post an unboxing on my channel when i get it lol
PKTV damn, nice
im actually gonna get the 13'' touch bar model :)
No matter how fast that Macbook Pro is, I just can't keep carrying other adapters with it. 😔 😡
Due to the price increase anyway even my employer (huge huge IT company) is possibly not rolling out these new MBP to staff due to the added cost of the laptop and the adapters.
oli3659
There hasn't been a Macbook Pro for years with an ethernet plug built in.
Install Parallels Desktop for Mac and open 2 virtual machines with 8GB RAM for each. You will know why you need more than 16GB on the laptop...
+jorge santos why would you allocate all of your ram to the VM's. The majority of people who run many VM's use server hardware with tons of ram and storage.
zollotech It was just an example to explain that 16GB is not enough these days.
Lovely machine, just not worth it right now.
Agree
Nice review. After this review I went and purchased one.
Glad I could help
got the one with no Touch Bar and it is still nice 😀😀😀
Will be upgrading from late 2011 fat macbook pro 13' to this soon
Beautiful video. Thanks
+wAjAhAt mirXa (anonymous) thanks!
Mixin Gamble
Let's be honest about it.
Wesley Jordan well they are inovators they need to present something new to the world tech nowadays needs always new because it develops so fast.
Mixin Gamble
*well they are inovators*
Who, Apple?
Thats just flat out ridiculous for a computer thats a piece of shit.
*2020 MacBook Pro: 0 ports, and an entirely digitised keyboard*. I can't stand the thin keypad, it's ridiculous! The spongey feel of models prior to 2016 were so much better, wtf is Apple thinking up there?!
I have a early 2011 MBP with a new SSD and 8gb of RAM. Is the base version (all I can afford) worth the upgrade.
touch bar *
I like it but I think the SSD should be replaceable. Also the battery which is glued into the top case. Not good.
Flash storage has a limited lifetime. If they fail you need to replace the logic board and that will be very expensive.
My PC mainboard has USB Type c too so i can use my stuff there too
Hi Aaron,
Apple claims that we can charge the MacBook Pro from any of the usb ports provided, does it mean we can charge the MacBook Pro simultaneously with multiple chargers to increase the speed of the charging?
No, it will only except a charge from one input but it can be any of them. If you plug in another it just ignores the voltage coming in in picks the highest voltage
Thank You. Love your videos...
i have a macbook pro mid 2014 and for now its fine :D
My Mac is 2012, is the regular Macbook Pro without the touchbar pretty much the same as the one with it just minus the touch bar? Also my 2012 Macbook pro has super low volume, cant even her it without headphones.
Zaz Ethel Mosley pretty sure models without touch bar have bigger battery
+Zollotech would you say this device is worth the money?
+SuperAwesomeMusician worth the money, no. But if you need a new Mac the iMac is the better deal. I have one for editing and love it, but it’s overpriced.
All right thanks. I wonder why Apple likes to overprice everything. I love Apple, but they need to re-think their prices.
By the way, you can bring back the startup chime;)
+Hochuli Marc yeah, but using a terminal command. They should have left it
Alright sorry for the comment then, I didnt know that.
So, which should I buy between the Macbook Pro 2016 13 inch or the 2015 15 inch?
+MZ Cubing that depends, The 15 inch is more powerful but it's larger. If you don't need a dedicated graphics card and a quad core processor then get the 13 inch
zollotech Thanks man :)
+Xilfe if your palm is on the trackpad and you type it should not be an issue.
zollotech So it only uses on you fingers?
+Xilfe right, the trackpad has palm rejection and normally does not work unless using your fingers
+zollotech Thnx a lot for the fast replies +1!
my macbook pro 13 early 2015 with 16G RAM
runs out of memory pretty quick(with 2 or 3 apps open) usually like 1 or 2GB left.
meanwhile my windows 10 pc(8GB RAM) with 20chrome tabs, steam, and a few games running, never run out of memory. it has a slower cpu but runs much faster than my macbook.
Not DVI, Display Port ;)
DSLR's the modern ones all file transfer via wifi so that is what apple is thinking about that's why no SD card slot, also you don't need dongles you just need the right devices and cables, and if you need the connectivity still get a DOCK!! Not adapters like a hydra dock for example has everything you need and all you take is one item
I've never seen a company comprise so much for the sake of saving a few bucks. Though I honestly don't care anymore as I've moved on to better things.
"I've moved on to better things." such as?
Shibby I just focused on what I needed and wanted the most.
Where did they try to save a few bucks? It was all compromise for thinness. That's why they used USB-C, that's why they removed the glowing apple logo and that's why then went with a low TDP GPU.
Charles Alden seems like you care, dude.
Nice video and the review is not boring and this video make me want to be a sheep. Nice!!
With that price tag, I would get the Razer Blade Pro!
@Zollo: I can live with the 4 USB-C/TB3 ports cuz that's the future and I plan to keep it for awhile. But can you say more about the battery life?
+db4ip in regular web browsing use it was the same as before for me. Most of the time I use it plugged in anyway since I'm editing video.
zollotech Thanks!
I bought it. It gives finger paints. it has been 6 months... No change.
Hey, If I'd be buying the MBP 15" 2016 with this config, would it still be reliable for video editing using FCPX? (Or should I just consider the MBP 13" version)
2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, 3.5GHz
16GB 2133MHz memory
*256GB PCIe-based SSD (I'll buy an external drive instead)
**Radeon Pro 460, 4GB memory (maybe the only upgrade I'll pay for?)
I often get my video clips from my GoPro set at, 1080p and 4k all the time and I also use Adobe Lightroom for my photography using raw files.
Muy buen video Aron
+Joan Marte thanks!
do you regret not getting space grey?
randomrazr I returned this and got a 13 inch space gray.
thanks for the reply! ohh very nice! no regrets not going back to silver?
+randomrazr nope. Love the space gray
Benchmarks are so useless. Thanks for sharing a real word scenario. Good video!
My touch id button don't move at all and don't make noise.
The bottom-line is that the memory sticks and SSD drive is neither replaceable nor upgradeable. So, it's a turn-off.
+Ravish Rawat they weren't in the last model really either. You could replace the SSD, but it was proprietary. The RAM was soldered to the board.
+leanne sanchez you can select the keyboard type and language in system preferences and then keyboard.
Bro should I upgrade? I got the late 2013: 2,3 i7 16GB DDR3 with dual gps - the 750m nvidia 512SSD :) ?
+Amir Muminovic no
thank You for ur opinion! Awesome review!
My mac pro has 64gb and I never get above 32gb
The RAM issue...I guess it'd be a real issue if you play with data...but I do agree that for most people 16 GB are way more than enough
+Francesco Grossetti it's not an issue. I edit 4k videos with it all the time and only use about 8GB
well that's cool, but I meant data scientists or similar. I am a statistician and I work with lots of data. I have a MBP 15 inch early 2011 which is still rocking, but it's getting the time to replace it so I am wondering which version would be the best for my usage (2016 vs 2015)
My touchid button is perfectly fine.
Would you recommend this from a macbook air mid2013?
+Quinton Cannataci you won't see major speed improvements, but if you want it for the better screen, touchbar and USB-c then it's good. Otherwise wait until they update the processors later this year
Does 2016 macbook pro has a light in macbook pro words logo??
You said 4 gigs of memory
PS:
You iSheep do realize that it was only a cut-out in the 'aluminum' body and it was the screen light showing through the cutout, and the logo never really was "illuminated" in real sense?
is it worth it if im coaming from a 2011 Macbook? LOL
+Bayardo A Rugama that depends on what you use it for
are you gonna review the mac pro?
+'Ainoa Manuia the 2013 Mac Pro? I hadn't planned on it.
+'Ainoa Manuia I haven't really had any issues with that other than when doing multi angle 4K clips. Then it bogs down, otherwise it never does.
