    Nice clear simple video on menu settings for a Baofeng. Unfortunately it's illegal to use a Baofeng to transmit on PMR because it's output is over 0.5W (half a watt). The other problem is the antenna has to be non removable for PMR radio but the Baofengs antenna is removable. I know many people still use them for PMR but i just thought i'd say as some people might think twice knowing the law for it's use and technical requirements. Still a good clear baofeng video though so a lot of people will find it easier to set one up.👍😊

      @@AllBikesGreatAndSmall You cant because of the power output level being over 0.5 watts which is the max on PMR. It also has a detachable aerial which isnt allowed on PMR. You also cannot act suspicious with a salmon.

    This is one of the best and easy to follow videos I've seen from someone to set these up. Is there a way once we've programmed them to channel 1,2,3,4 etc to just hit the number 1 button and we swap to that frequency?

    • @elliottwood2814
      @elliottwood2814 6 років тому +2

      BenEmm thanks, I'm glad you found it helpful. Yes there is, If you switch from frequency mode to channel mode, with the orange button then you can key on the channel number. From memory though you do have to key in 0 0 1 to go to channel 1 so you have to actually do 3 key presses to change channel.

Also, you have "S" & "N" on the top line of your display, what is this from? When I transmit from Baofeng radio # 1 to Baofeng radio # 2 it works fine however when I try to transmit from Baofeng radio # 2 to Baofeng radio # 1, the Baofeng radio # 1 will not pick up the transmission from the other Baofeng radio #2. Problem with uv-5r is that it transmits out of band. This will pollute radio spectrum like a bright city light are polluting the night sky (effect is exactly the same)
      I own two of those and tbh it can mess with the CB band, also with air traffic control frequencies.
      Those cause lots of interference.
      But if you are only into ham bands (listening ofcourse) and such then those are good enough!
      I mainly use them for ISS reception and NOAA apt recordings.

      Hi mate, thanks for the question. Sadly I'm not a huge radio guy so particulars in regards to the Motorola arent my forte and I dont know if its has preset frequencies or what but the first thing I'd do is find out what what frequencies the Motorola is set to and then tuning the baofeng to it, just make sure it's set to frequency mode by toggling the vfo/mr button. I'd also suggest turning off ctcss on both just to make it easier no having to deal with that being set incorrectly.

      one of the menu items changes the step value, I cant recall what you want it set to off the top my head and I don't have my radio with me to check but if you try each one you should be able to work it out.

      Daniel Murphy Hi and thanks, it sounds like you might not have the ctcss receiving frequency set, I'd try again and set both ctcss frequencies before saving it to a channel.

      Black Wolf Recon cheers. Ive came to realise that the cheap radio picks up what the beaofang transmits. But i cant hear what he cheap radio transmits

      Ah ok, this is then correct, ctcss doesn't hide or make your transmission "private" from others who use no ctcss and this is why the other radio will pick up your transmissions. Its use is meant to cut out the receiving of transmissions that you're not interested in hearing. So we use it as a team so we're not picking up anything unnecessary but other teams could tune into our main channel and still listen in.

      Black Wolf Recon thanks for the help. Shouldnt be a problem. We'll have 15 channels minus the marchals channel. Thanks again.

    Very sorry but I’m a complete idiot and it difficult to follow. The reason why is buttons are small fingers are large I’m watching on my iPhone hence hard to work out whats going on.

    Good video but also illegal. These radios are to high powered for the UK (0.5w).
    Would be easier to pay for a licence from OffComm & be legal
