In the depths of the Age of Myth, Ghyran was a truly wild place. Hordes of Beastmen and Greenskinz stalked the woods, preying on the weak. Human settlers were butchered in droves. Alarielle took pity on the mortals and granted a select few of their champions great blessings. She taught them nobility and honor; both towards the people they protected and the land they lived upon. With this newfound power, the Order of the Firefly was founded. As a beacon in the dark they carved out the Seven Blessed Duchies of the Realm Bunificent. Centuries passed, however, and the purpose for the Order waned. Threats were few and courage little needed. Noble titles became honorific, the word knight meaning less and less each passing season. Complacency and stagnancy were ever more prevalent than honor and courage. The blessings of Alarielle waned. The Duchies were mostly oblivious to the growing threat. That is until throngs of refugees bearing crippling diseases wandered through their lands. When the summons went out to all civilization to rally against Archaon, the Order of the Firefly answered. To them, it was a great adventure. Each knight would earn their place in the stories as their ancestors of old. They expected to return within weeks at most. The Battle of Burning Skies shattered that visage. Most of the knights were slain. Those that lived shuddered at the sights they had seen. The Lady of Ghyrwall was the most troubled of all. For 7 times 77 days she locked herself in her castle, searching for the answers to their defeat as she kneeled before the Firefly Chalice. In that time, dark whispers seeped into her mind. The Everqueen had abandoned them, revoking her blessings and leaving them weak. She saw visions of Ghyrwall swalloed by plague and bile, its people subjected to endless despair. Each day, the sickness that had already crawled its way into the Duchies pried at her health. On the last day, she emerged from her solitude, her mind full of nothing but clarity. Plague and mutation were already well set in. The Dukes of the Realm were brought before her. She demanded they pledge themselves to the Grandfather and sip from the Flyblown Chalice. 3 of the Dukes fled in disgust, the rest knelt and were proclaimed the first Blightmasters. In the First Pox Crusade, the Realm Bunificent was cleansed with clarity.
I love the order of the fly. They're the inspiration for the conversions I've been doing with bretonnia bits, also I'm using the nurgle witch as my nurgle sorcerer
Love how Nurgle always has the biggest/best presence in the mortal realms. He has these guys for AoS and in 40k DG are the most well organized legion, with the most numbers and most original members leftover out of the other traitor legions. Really plays into how he's just a ticking time bomb building up and waiting to go off, just something building up in the background until he's suddenly on top of the great game again.
What was intriguing is that they’re also honorable after a fashion. They protect each other, they accept fealty and seem to genuinely respect each other and not be plotting to one up their peers like a lot of chaos warbands. Interestingly, The lady of Cankerwall has garnered even the respect of daemons like Heralds. Disclaimer: I’m far from a Nurgle fan - I actively dislike them but I’m still intrigued by what sets them apart.
Basically every video recently has me changing my mind on what I'm going to do for my local game store's army builder challenge. Seeing the beauty in the reviled is absolutely my jam.
By the sound of it, the order of the fly may have been a sub fraction of bretonnie well what left of the knighty kingdom from the world that was, the lady and then chalice seem to be a corrupted concept of the lady of the lake in which those that drink from the chalice would be given great power but only to the most finest and greatest knights, we now so little to what happen to Brettonia as there little to be seen of them in age of sigmar, there rumors are that it could be they are the flesh eater courts, outher say they are in some kind of realm that not in age of sigmar, but primaly there can be no answer unless game workshop would try to release them in AOS, but otherwise the order of the fly sound pretty cool and it a nice node to the world that was.
This is just a nod i think. Brettonia fell when the old world went poof. Lorewise, brettonia hasnt existed for 1000s of years, and the realms for the most part have nothing to do with one the old world
A couple years back, I remember bringing up the Order of the fly to a nurgle player and they had no idea what I was talking about. It's a shame that they aren't a playable sub faction in AOS.
Well not literally a subfaction (yet). But there is a way to run them in spirit. Just take nurgle marked Chaos Knights in your army as a main force. As in universe that is pretty much all they are. Nurgle alighned Chaos Knights. You could run them in a Maggotkin army as Coalition and theme your army around the order.
Oh my goodness. . . i was just thinking of something similar along those lines except my lord of blights would initially lead some plague bearers and plague drones into battle (because i only have the lord of blights and the SC daemons of nurgle) and prove himself to be an agent of the grandfather after which he will convince others to join and gain some putrid blightkings. This will all fit in 1000 pts. still deciding if after my Path to Glory campaign, if i will make it grow a bit more. edit: i guess they could do something like Index Astartes. . . .
That was a very cool video. Maybe if they ever do an updated wrath of the ever chosen style book to supplement chaos factions it would be a good place to put order of the fly.
I recently got some blightlords/wizard from Wurmspat, lord of blights and lord plagues for cheap from ebay and didn't know what to do with them. Perfect timing for me to see this video! Cheers Doug
Order of The Fly is my favorite subfaction in my favorite faction (Nurgle). Based on stories I have been kinda worried that GWS would do a "redemption arc" and bring them back to the side of Order. Hopefully not.
How I see Bretonnia's "triumphant return" to Warhmamer Age of Sigmar. Suppose that after the End Time, the surviving Britonians continued to exist in their sealed sub-realm known as the "Haven" under rule of new Lady of the Lake and two immortla kings (First and Last). There, of course, they were corrupted, but they didn't change their habits and arrogance and didn't become true Chaos worshipers. However, they are no longer just divinely divined super-humans. But twisted creatures. For example, horns, animal heads and other decorations of knightly helmets are parts of their bodies now. ... and now, for some reason, the seals are broken and the portal to the Haven is open (of course, either the aelves or the skaven are to blame). Hordes of vindictive paranoid crusaders-fanatics are breaking free, punish right and wrong alike. No unions, no alliances. Like locusts bringing devastation. Analogue of Tyranids in Warhammer Age of Sigmar.
I think the reasoning is technically in universe the actual members of the Order of the Fly are basically just Nurgle aligned chaos knights. So technically the Chaos Knights in game are them represented if given the Mark of Nurgle. I know not quite what your getting at but there is atleast something.
This is why I'm a Nurglite. If the warp gods were real. I'd sign up with a Nurgle warband yesterday. I am very unattractive. Like... "you're a lesbian because men are visually oriented" is a "joke" I've heard. I'm also a wide variety of forever-sick; I only have 1.5 feet, I'm diabetic (but not fat. 162 cm 111 kg or 6'2" 240 lbs. I can afford to lose a few but I'm not huge), and have autism, among other things. I used to be an adventurous sort, hiking, swimming, boating, etc., but since the injury that took out half of my left foot, a combination of pain and sickness keeps me confined to my apartment most times. Depression has certainly taken its toll on my weight. Nurgle promises freedom from pain. Yes, I will become much more sick, but I'll be free to leave my government subsidized housing and explore. Yes, I will bring sickness with me and twist my environment to resemble Grandfather's garden, but all of my victims will be forever freed from pain as well. Nurgle would twist our perceptions so that I see the same beauty in perpetual rot that I currently see when riding a horse through the woods. Nurgle is a return to innocence, to a time where I'm not in pain, and it's not like I have any beauty now to lose.
Sounds like what you want is to exercise, study and eqt healthy but don't realise it. Oh nurgle is full of pain, if you ever had a nasty skin infection, you'd know. Now imagine that 100x over. Its a parody of life like all chaos but the mortals who endure generally have high resilience and why they are successful as bad guys. Anyways trust me you would not want nurgle offerings but out of the all of them its absolutely the most interesting!
@jakea3950 I'm never going to walk unassisted again, and I don't remember the last time I wasn't in pain. I was a hiker and equestrian before my injury, and losing the use of one foot took away everything I like doing (besides video games). I'll take the jacked up face if it means I can work.

Pinned for excellence :)

The title of this video confused me, but I was pleasantly surprised! I’ve styled my own Maggotkin army with inspiration of the Order!
Hold up, knights sworn to a lady? Going on quests? Chalice as a symbol?
Bretonnia? Is that you?
No
That’s flesh eater courts
Freaking love these dudes almost tempts me to get down with the Nurgle goodness

Really appreciate these videos! You do a great job
Bretonnia turned to the dark side. 😀

Still waiting for GW to give us Pestigors sad 😢

cool faction. i had set aside a blood angel sanguinary priest for my death guard before, now here's a background reason maybe for maggotkin too!
SUPPORT THE CAT!

Definitely enjoyed listening while painting my lord of afflictions 😁
Neferata’s battle with Wolgus is pretty awesome - and when she kills him ^_^
Thanks

We're not gonna mention Bretonia? the chalice? the lady? the duchies? no?
Nurglite Bretonnian. Because Chaos is never out of random horrors to throw at everybody else.
Would you revisit sos strom ground
This would be a Great DLC for the Nurgle Faction in War Hammer Total War 3. :3
They also show up in Court of the Blind King
Would you consider doing a video on shalaxi helbane?
Think I might need me a nurgle army.....

Where can i buy the book for the whole story/ lore of age of sigmar
Nat 20 on loving this content
Do you get story's from the battletome
I think on top of Slimex I would like to see a vid on the Contagiums of the Maggotkin... In other words the subfactions XD they are cool
I really wish GW actually did something with this with Nurgle, really odd that they don't expand the Mortals of Nurgle a bit more.

Just found in a friend's basement an old Bretonnian battalion, practically all on the sprue. Think I might have found a use for them 🤮
Nurgle Mormons???
