I got 32kmh or 20mph out of a 6hp Mercury 4 stroke on a 12”. Slight wind advantage. I beefed up the transom. My 5 year old son sitting on the floor between bench 3 and 2 and I (245lbs) was sitting on the floor between bench 2 and 1. Did not expect to see that speed to be honest.
Nice man!! These boat are awesome i have a 14ft with a 15hp 2 stroke and it flies on the water. Your transom upgrade looks good I think i will also do something similar. I made a small deck for the front of mine using some plywood works great.
As long as you stay within the weight requirements for the transom. I have seen on you tube a guy put a 35 hp 2 stroke and beefed up the support but that's over kill. 15hp should be fine I believe the max weight for an engine was 89lbs you'll have to double chk with porta-bote.
Hello I have a 14ft portabote just bought it used, can you show me your wheels set up please? Also do you have pictures of the U shape transom set up please! By the nice set up!
Hey, how long is the boat? Is it 14 feet? Don't you find that the 9.8 HP is too heavy to mounted on the transom? Have you ever run it with smaller outboard like 6.6 Hp? I plan to buy the 14 feet to be used with my 6.6 HP Suzuki.wonder whether it will plane easy with 3 people on board?
The boat is is 12' and the outboard is a 2 stroke and weighs 58 lbs so its not too heavy. I do also have a 5 hp outboard for when I go to smaller lakes and it planes fine with me and my wife and I can hit around 14 mph. I would guess with the Suzuki you should be able to plane and hit around 10 mph with 3 people.
awsome video dude.... how often do you use it .. have you used it in rougher seas.. what is your feedback ? how many kilometers far into sea can you travel with the porta boat / done fishing ??
Meril Mathew I actually use it quite often, been out on the bay but not in open sea. It works well on the Bay and had it out when it was quite windy with decent waves. It feels very stable as long as you are careful and know what you are doing.
hello have a porta 10 an old Johnson 25hp my question is what about the floor it sucks for me back and forth that is a problem for the boat I thought that the engine is too high can you give me a picture of how high your engine is
I don't understand ... why have a Porta Bote if you're not going to fold it up? Why not just get a regular boat? You have a pickup so a trailer would be no big deal ... ? I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm just honestly curious. :) Thanks for the video.
As I was looking into this engine for my 10' Portabote, I was looking at the specs for engine weight and it says that your engine is 81lbs. I would like to think with the added support that it would still work for my boat. Per the "company rep" that I spoke with today, your 12' is rated to 58lbs for an engine. Any input would be great. Thanks
my outboard is ns9.8b 2 stroke, it weighs in at 59lbs so it's not really over the weight limit. the extra bracing I have on the transom minimizes the flexing with the extra power.
There's more info on the rod holder mount in the video link on the description. The transom has been strengthened using an aluminum U channel with a T nut on the back.
I wouldn't recommend it, from my understanding there is a limitation on speed due to the flexible hull not to mention the motor weight limit on the transom. You will need to do some major modifications to it.
Yes. If you get a Yamaha 9.9 2 stroke and change out the reed cage from a 15 hp Yamaha 2 stroke, you will now have a 15 hp 2 stroke outboard at under the transom weight limit. www.portaboat.ca/14inPortaBoteAlpha1?tag=14%20Ft%20Porta%20boats%20%20
@@funguy7979 Most welcome! Check this out: ua-cam.com/video/ziUqkP3MJVI/v-deo.html I'm getting a 14 ft Porta Boat and doing this to a Yamaha 9.9 2 stroke! ZOOM!
Hi, I just discovered these boats and was thinking, 'if tipped this in the sea they'd be hard to right', is that foam around the edges & on the seats for flotation / righting purposes? I can see maybe a rivet holding it on? I suppose an epoxy would also work to attach it? Thanks, Steven
Foams are for floatation, the boat will still be floating even when it's full of water as described on the portabote website. I would imagine it might be easier then an aluminum boat to flip it upright again since these boats are lighter. Couldn't tell you for sure though, never happened before.
If you ditched the wheels propped up as they are you would go significantly faster... Not that you're not already running an outboard way overweight for that boat, but who cares, fast is cool and flotation vests actually work... To a point, it keeps your dead corpse floating after you've died of hypothermia for quite awhile.

I like your diy add ons. Can you provide some details instructions on making the dolly?
latemoy did you find some other tutorial to make wheels for porta bote ?
I like the custom mods. How did you make the back piece?
Yep, its an aluminum u-channel across the transom with an angle to the back of seat for bracing.
Hi what propeller do you run on this Nissan 9.8, Do you have the Pitch and Diameter? Nice Video! Fast Boat!

I thought the transom was rated for 3.5 hp and 45# max. How is this rig holding up?

Looks like fun! I missed the transom strengthening mods. Is that a piece of u-channel and a brace forward to the seat? Anything else?

Where did you get those wheels from?
Is the black closed foam flotation around the inside standard, or did you add it?
Man love it when I'm booking it on my porta bote straight up hauling ass lol

how easy to install & uninstall the alum support on the transome?
just curious, after 7 years, how has it held up?
very interested in more details on transom and the rod holder. Can you post details?
How so you like that Nissan? I heard that Honda's and Yamaha's are the motors to use.
The Nissan motor has been awesome. as long as you take care of it they are all good performers.
How has the boat held up after 7 yrs ??
hello, do you have some info about how to make the custom wheels ?
christophe seirow the wheels aren't custom, its called a port dolly and it is sold by the company that makes the boat

I wonder if that boat would handle a 20 hp motor ??? Could maybe double that speed or maybe close to 50 mph...

how big is your gas tank?
Is that 12.6 ft ? I thought the max engine is 6 hp, isn't 9.9 too heavy?
how much are those?
I was using woodprix instructions to make it and I did it already :)
