Great job detailing the two types. If a guy wanted to run both, FICMRepair sells/does the FICM tuning and the ECM Tuning. Heck, they'll even set you up with one of Charlie's rockin' KC Jetfire Turbos. :)
Hmmm. I have a Stage 2 KC setup with an SCT X4 running the Extreme Race tune. Was planning on doing something like the Atlas 40. I was really excited to watch this video, however, now I do not know if I should do it anymore. Lmao. I will have to call my Tuner... I don't even know if I am running a Spoofed ICP. Now I know nothing and have no clue what I should do... Part of this is satire but also real. Personally I am not much of a Spoofer. I don't think my truck should be Spoofing either. I am assuming my "Tuner" would be? Perhaps it is a mystical creature I will have to go out into the wild to find. Then coerce the creature to give me the knowledge of the universe.
ICP spoofing is old and outdated IMO. Plus on a truck with a bad oil cooler I set all my tunes to scale back the fuel amount to maintain peak ACTUAL ICP, this keeps HP output up and EGTS down which can get a guy up a mountain. For guys with good oil coolers they'll never go into derate but have that safety built in for piece of mind. Spoofed ICP increases PW in those areas which further drops ICP, creates more smoke, and drops power. If actual ICP is draining and the tune starts asking for more PW it's really going to hurt Actual ICP and increase EGTS. Not to mention you lose table resolution with ICP spoofing. It also messes with actual torque output which has negative effects on the trans side which hurts trans learning... Does it work yes but so do mechanical typewriters.....
@@JaegerWrenching Agreed, but you are currently fighting a current losing battle. I run hp tuners on my trucks, excursion, race truck, etc. But the average joe wants a handheld device that requires very little input from them. I will say, I have ran both and the custom SCT tunes that spoof the ICP run FANTASTIC. They work really well. I prefer ICP to read right, but the tunes that spoof the icp don't really suck or anything like that.
@@peixinho5927 I never said they suck just that spoofing the ICP doesn’t allow you to derate fuel amount to maintain peak ICP when your oil cooler is plugged up, or if ICP is actually dropping in a spoofed tune truck most tunes start asking for more PW as ICP drops making it worse… Both of those issues increase EGTS. I do 100% agree customer like tunes to come with a device that allows logging. But you can still buy other monitors for that, you can’t do certain things with spoofed ICP.
Great video Charlie! Good explanation and break down.

If you are only using SCT, then there is not way around it. SCT is the most common tuning on a 6.0
@@peixinho5927 Sounds like a good reason to go to HPTuners
