Goniometry is how physical therapists obtain an objective measurement of the patient's range of motion of a joint, which is important for a variety of reasons in the therapy setting, such as showing progress to insurance companies. Each joint has assigned landmarks for measuring range of motion, above and below a joint, that the two arms of the goniometer have to stay lined up with. The PT calculates the range of motion based on the starting angle and ending angle. Her device frees up one of the therapist's hand to support the patient's limb and helps visualize the landmarks better with the lasers

I actually pre-pitched my business pitch to a “would be” potential investor (I was due to go on to Dragons Den in the UK) - and one of the things he said to me was how much the whole “valuation” p.sses him off (with every company). He went on to talk to about how his current business was valued at roughly £300m but if a single deal of the 12 he had at that exact moment in the pipeline came to fruition - it would almost double overnight. So his argument was you can value any business at almost any price and nothing is unreasonable, and from his experience - should not be scrutinised to the level they are on tv shows by apparent investors. “They’re financially investing in the investment request - not the apparent value of the on the spot daily valuation”. This item would be in every physical therapy office in the world...the plastic readers are so inaccurate, you normally take multiple measurements and average it out. this is quick and accurate. she can sell way more than 2k units
Accelerometer, gyroscope, lasers...this is an extremely expensive device in the category, considering it can be done cheaply; even if less accurately with a plastic piece that costs almost nothing. That's a huge upsell to a healthcare provider. But what gives me pause is that most of those devices are present in the average phone. One would think that inventing a dongle for a phone and an app that does this would go over way easier. I don't know enough about the market to say for sure, but I feel like even with the traction she has, that will eventually succumb to big fish wanting a piece of the pie. What I didn't hear enough about in this conversation was patents. They normally press more for that.
Just gonna give a simple example of how absolutely bonkers medical devices can be... There's a device that can "show" a patient's veins using some fancy laser/computer technology that then projects a map onto the patients skin of where the veins are. Sounds amazing, right? Especially for patients that are difficult sticks. Any bets on the price? 10k USD. Each unit. Now, mind you, I'm a phlebotomist, been doing it for 5 years now in a hospital/acute care setting. I get better results using nothing but my fingers and eyes for vein finding. ESPECIALLY on the hard stick patients. I can't even tell you the number of times the sophisticated vein finder tells me (or one of my colleagues including nurses for IV placement) There's a vein where there is absolutely not a vein that will allow for a blood draw or IV placement. The stat nurses don't even touch them, they just use the old fashioned eyes and fingers or, in significantly tricky cases, a portable ultrasound. So basically, these devices are 10 grand worth of fancy looking laser show, nothing more. Yet, I know of TONS of hospitals that have purchased tons of devices. For 10 grand a pop. Oh, and in case your curious, a similar effect with similar unpredictability can be achieved using an alcohol swab and an angled/indirect light. That was one of the "tricks" I've learned over the years that I rarely use but on a small subset of patients it can be valuable. Cost of the equivocal trick? One alcohol swab (that you were going to use anyway for the venipuncture) and the electricity required to power the light source for, say, 60-90 seconds (though, there's also a save in cost from turning down the intensity of the main overhead lights, so...) Edit: stat nurses are the term used at least at my hospital for the line placement experts that are nurses (typically of the RN or BSN flavors). They can also place both midlines and PICC lines under ultrasound guidance.
what they didnt show was that there is also a strap you can attach the device to. Eg measuring shoulder motion you place the cuff around shoulder and attach device. Then patient performs shoulder flexion to max amount and it measures angle. Im buying one
She cant believe people take her low ball offers. I cannot stand her. Reminds me of an evil Disney character. And buy a new dress, its as tacky as her hair...Ick
I don't understand why they had to spend that much. Anyone can buy an Arduino board, display kit, sensors and even 3d print casings for about 20 prototypes for under 1000 euros (probably much much less).
I feel like you can often tell when a person is going to be successful. She has a craft and has identified a problem and she has produced a solution for that problem. She knows what she is talking about and presented it really well.. I don't know where she is now, but I would bet she is doing very well. 🥰
Somehow red dress still managed to "be out" in this episode even with a deal... She said she knew her from a previous convention from winning an award. And I guess she didn't like what she was doing then enough to be in. Which means "she was out"
You didn't listen properly. The inventor won an award and Naomi was a judge at that event. So yes she knows her. It wasn't an investment opportunity, it was a national award that was granted to her with Naomi being on the judging panel.
So why market this to only the medical industry , can't builders use it or the diy person for fabrication or for roof inclination angles or driveway angle slopes ,panel beaters (will the laser harm the eye if it reflects off of reflective paint ?) I'm not a expert I'm just thinking what other industries can use the device without changing the design or infringing on any copyrights designs in a targeted industry

That was one of the "tricks" I've learned over the years that I rarely use but on a small subset of patients it can be valuable. Cost of the equivocal trick? One alcohol swab (that you were going to use anyway for the venipuncture) and the electricity required to power the light source for, say, 60-90 seconds (though, there's also a save in cost from turning down the intensity of the main overhead lights, so...)
Edit: stat nurses are the term used at least at my hospital for the line placement experts that are nurses (typically of the RN or BSN flavors). They can also place both midlines and PICC lines under ultrasound guidance.
The thing that's difficult about using this product is you have to keep the patient absolutely still for both measurements to get an accurate reading
what they didnt show was that there is also a strap you can attach the device to. Eg measuring shoulder motion you place the cuff around shoulder and attach device. Then patient performs shoulder flexion to max amount and it measures angle. Im buying one
11:23 I'm sure Naomi laughed that loud because she thought: *I can't believe she accepted this ambitious unjust offer right away!!!* 😂😂😂
Must have been desperate. She devalued her company by half and her investors value as well.
does anyone wonder why does Naomi laugh so much after her deal ? 😂😂
Bc she barely has got any money and pretends to be happy
@@bigmantingye3290 she raised over 40 million dollars , but yes Andrew Banks raised 600 million dollars 😂😂
She cant believe people take her low ball offers. I cannot stand her. Reminds me of an evil Disney character. And buy a new dress, its as tacky as her hair...Ick
she's broke and knows the product will make money
I don't understand why they had to spend that much. Anyone can buy an Arduino board, display kit, sensors and even 3d print casings for about 20 prototypes for under 1000 euros (probably much much less).
I feel like you can often tell when a person is going to be successful. She has a craft and has identified a problem and she has produced a solution for that problem. She knows what she is talking about and presented it really well.. I don't know where she is now, but I would bet she is doing very well. 🥰
This in the NFL, AFL, Basketball, F1 any of them would do sooo well. Such a good product
😩😩😩
I love how many experts there are in here.
Steve understood the logic behind the device in a blink of the eye. Amazing
Buff guy sitting on the chair in the back like
💪👁👄👁🍵
im just trying to figure out if an iphone app solution can match this technology.
Brilliant idea!
This would b a handy device for any tradespeople too.
Excellent product
Who else has been binging shark tank Australia and isnt even from Australia
Can someone tell how was the second offer different from the first.......
It wasnt thats the point
The second offer had a $100,000 loan attached to it.
In my opinion Andrew is the best shark because he actually invests in stuff like everyone else barely does
Poor negotiation skills, could have had a much better valuation if she spoke better.
She was under pressure. It’s normal!
Do better then
Somehow red dress still managed to "be out" in this episode even with a deal...
Naomi most common answers:
I'm out.
I am really struggling with your valuation.
I 'm gonna make you an offer but its not what you want
So why market this to only the medical industry , can't builders use it or the diy person for fabrication or for roof inclination angles or driveway angle slopes ,panel beaters (will the laser harm the eye if it reflects off of reflective paint ?) I'm not a expert I'm just thinking what other industries can use the device without changing the design or infringing on any copyrights designs in a targeted industry
I'm thinking she will probably branch out in the future, if she hasn't already. She's just starting in the field she knows, and knows there is a need and a market for her product. 🙂
This is why you need to experience the world otherwise you don’t know what is a problem. Learn and discover guys. Simple and great product.
how did she trademark ''halo''?
I used one for acl surgery
Barbara: I'm not in this country or in this episode, so for that reason, I'm out.
Interesting product def a market in automotive with some small additions...i want that + measuring laser for cheap all in one
She undermines herself. She wasn’t showing confidence saying like and I think and unprofessional words. Why would anyone invest in someone that is not sure it will be a success
They know the value of the product.
Would be so cool to see this on the apple watch or another watch/ fitness product
Nice Website!!!
Forget "tense", was there a negotiation?
Unnecessary Click-bait
There’s an app for that.
Do need a shark to go the licensing route and that's where Id' go with this. There's enough medical supply companies to approach. Once it hits the Asian market, it will get knocked off anyway.
asian market will copy it the second day
The minute she showed her device i knew it was going to sell.
Intelligent woman like her are soo attractive in true essence. Well done 👏
Steve is so clever how he spoke to her. She sounded she was very desperate to get a deal and clearly she needs the funds asap. He baited her with the ending to his question because she gave away she was willing to low ball it and the that's when he said I wasn't expecting a answer it was rhetorical question..
No counteroffer nor questions asked about the terms of the loan?
Naomi's evil millionaire laugh at 11:24
Investor: " we look at history not futures because it is a risky place"... well guess you should not be an investor then, i'm out!
"Sydney court decided in 2015 that he’d made False cases about his job at his previous workplace-This incident made Andrew Banks step out from the deal made during the TV Show. Also, he further stated that ‘I wasn’t going to risk that" so the deal ended up not going through
what does that have to do with anything
When she said halo I immediately thought combat evolved.
Reach
100k is pocket change who tf would give up 20% equity like that for changeb
That's cool and Dr need it
Do the shark tank investors Have an actual shark tank when the entrepreneurs walk down the hallway before entering into their pitch or is it just a bunch of TV screens with sharks swimming?
Just screens, cant hold sharks in such small aquariums
Is this just measures the degree of level , iphone already has this feature in the utilities app and choose measure 🤦♂️
True but they don't have a laser
This is actually my invention from 1983. Im suing her for all shes worth
You wish you invented it lol
One side "SMART" with "NO MONEY", the other side "STUPID" with "MONEY". This is a fight between "BRAIN" and "WALLET". Simple is that.
Wow these people should go shark tank in the u.s... I see many of them jumping on this... what a good product...
I think most mobile Phones could Do the same with just an App. Right?
Australian Olympic teams?
Trust me, the day of show she took off dressing her red clothes... I'm subscribing this channel
Naomi is just plain greedy, with no content behind any of her justification to halve the valuation. Basically, I'm a 'shark', give me a massive discount, thanks!
Wait, why are people praising this product ? It can literally be done on any mobile phone and you can even keep the records digitally.
You're not Cortana and this ain't Halo.
How the f do you spend 1.5 mil on developing that??? We put together a full system that includes cameras and tracking involving machine learning and spent less than that.
Trial and error, plus its got a sensor involved
Why expend 200 euros in something that will get the same resut as a 2 euros piece of plastic? This product is nonsense... looks cool...
@@amadou2011 could have used a 2 euros piece of plastic that was doing the job perfectly instead of sensors, lasers, micronutrients and electrolites...
@@amadou2011 you would be mind blown at the tech in our system. We have interests from Tesla because we have done with cameras what they are trying to do with lidar. Vehicle and object collision detection and reaction of the system.
I agree that her solution is ridiculously overengineered. The reason why the goniometer she held up is the best the market has to offer is because it does the job perfectly well. Anyone can learn how to use it with minimal training.
Dude, restructure the box, and they could sell this to contractors!!!! Angle finder! Holy crap!
already a thing haha
Go to the APP STORE on your phone lmao. There's 1000 apps that measure what angle your device is at.
@@vintagerealityvr yeah but people don’t want to pay hundreds of dollars at a physio for them to pull their iPhone out and get the measurements, nobody is going to take them seriously.
I think the poduct is good however the product isn’t a product that is in high demand. Sales could drop in time
I like her idea but i can do the same thing with almost any smart phone and a simple app. I use my phone to measure angles and level all the time.
They sell laser tape measures in Home Depot - have for years.
She's a genius when she talks
