When will these entrepreneurs figure out that; “I love what I do” and “I believe in this 110%” Does not mean anything about the success of your potential business. Also they won’t give away their ideas because they are super easy to copy. And if it sells, someone will, and they’ll do it cheaper.
You can do it for cheaper, obviously. Their game plan is novelty room decoration. Toss in some cheap chinese labor, plastic, shitty paint, less material and etc and you can produce one of their lamps for under $100. Even so it's not unique. Cosplayers built big novelty items for costumers on the daily, with hundreds of people offering their skill to commission a piece. The only argument is the quality of the finished product.
They are energetic, creative and willing to take a risk, but selling an investment property to fund the design and manufacturing of a novelty desk lamp in the shape of a giant 2B pencil is, some might argue, the very definition of madness.
For real. At that price? I just bought a lamp for 15 bucks at Walmart. Works great. Too expensive and I don’t see a real business actually spending that much for something people walk by and say “ah cool” and move on with their work day
The problem is they don't understand business, if they want to sell this product for that ridiculous price they need to sell it as modern art. Selling this in a gallery or high in furniture store as interactive art wouldn't be hard they could probably even double the price. However their approach for this particular product is all wrong, they're trying to heavily commercialize and mass produce it. Once that happens it becomes "just a lamp" not art. That's fine too but if it's just another commercially available lamp it would need to be priced like 1 aka ~$300 tops. If they came in with the same product and pitched themselves a high end art deco business selling interactive pieces they may have gotten a deal.
It's just a quirky lamp, and could probably do okay as a low cost gift, or a mid priced quirkly lamp, but those prices are insane. It's always funny when the sharks can't understand that there is a huge difference between telling a potential investor future product ideas, while sitting in an office or conference room, and revealing them on an tv program viewed worldwide.
