So in case no one has explained to you, this song was a huge hit in China. It was taken from an idea from a video game (hence the video game sounds) where a young boy sets out to rescue a princess from a dragon, save the kingdom, and hopefully get permission from the king to marry the princess. It's funny because everyone has very long names. In the first chorus, the boy introduces himself to the king saying "I am called - Dala Bengba Ban De Beidi Boduo Bilu Weng" The King asks him to say it again and then repeats it. In the second chorus, the dragon and boy repeat the dragon's name "Kun Tu Ku Ta Ks Ti Kao Te Su Wa Xi La Song" The whole thing is a tongue twister of long names repeated at the end telling the king how the boy defeated the dragon and rescued the princess who also has a long name and is from a town that has a long name. Zhou Shen performed I believe 9 songs throughout this particular TV performance show (during Covid). Each performance showed a different artistic side and the audience and the contestants were blown away with his talent. What I love about Zhou Shen or Charlie is that he is constantly challenging himself and growing as an artist. I also like that he does not feel the need to do vocal gymnastics. Some of my favorite songs are the ones that are sung in a heartfelt and simple manner just letting the ethereal quality and tone of his voice seep into your bones as you listen.

@@Yenhongsin77 Zhou Shen actually was on the same season of Super Vocal as the Super Vocal Boys group participating in I Am Singer for this competition. I think Charlie was very near the end before he was eliminated, if I am remembering correctly (been a few years since I watched it.) Super Vocal Boys were the last remaining of Super Vocal. Super Vocal was a competition to find the best Bel Canto voices. Dimash actually was a judge on that season of Super Vocal for an episode (which is why he appeared as a guest singing with Super Vocal Boys (Queen Medley) on I Am Singer. Heh... tangled web.
The real difficulty in this song are the - especially for Chinese - ridiculously long and meaningless names of the hero, the dragon, the princess and the town. The roles are the narrator, the young hero, the king, the dragon, the baby and the princess. Here the translation:

The names are mind blowing & tongue twisting ! Very very few singers can do this cover, for sure.
To do it like how zhou shen does it would mean either a massive amount of training AND you would need the GIFT to be able to reach the notes as well as voice quality. Close to near impossible for someone to duplicate tone for tone, pitch for pitch...
In a way you can say his voice is one gifted by the heavens to have an ethereal quality and he put hardwork to control it.

Zhou Shen is amazing. He really good at using vocal position or mouth shape to change his voice. He recently sang "I Am a Star" for Disney's Centenary Animation. The English version was completed by 28 people while the Chinese version was completed by one person, Zhou Shen who transformed more than 20 voices and completed all the harmonies. Maybe you can listen to it and enjoy it.

For your information to tell you a bit of his background. He got vocally bullied a lot when he was young because his voice didn't change during puberty. He even tried to tone down his voice to avoid those verbally bullied. He went to study dentistry in Ukhine but because of the language barrier and also because all of them were in medical terms and also not his mother tongue, he needed to go through the translation every single night and finally he changed to study Classical music there. He was graduated in Classical music in Ukraine. He can sing over at least 12 different languages. He also can sing over so many different voices in one song, one of them which is the one you guys reacted to today. He is a very funny, polite, and very humble guy. His fans are all over the world, He also Broadcast live concerts online every single Birthday to his fans even though he doesn't like to celebrate his own birthday but he has done it only for his fans for over 9 years by now. In my own opinion, a lot of songs can heal your body but not your soul. Zhou Shen's song can do both especially can heal your soul completely. This is a tongue twister song that went viral a few years ago in China. Dala Beng Ba is just the first part of the "hero's" name. And he plays 4 parts. He won first place in that round. Such an amazing singer. How about an original song next? Big Fish.

If you have the captions on, you will find that he is singing in 4-5 different characters in this song. It's a cute little fairy tale type song.
The whole idea was that the original song wasn't meant to be sung by human, it was a fun idea from an online creator who came out with a video game-like tune add on with gibberish nonsense super long names as lyrics (to mock the trend of using long usernames in China) to tell a typical fairytale story of how a hero save the princess and he put both the music and lyrics into the Chinese version of the vocaloid software (like Hatsune Miku) and was sung by Luo Tian Yi the Chinese vocaloid singer -an AI-ish vocal. The original was kinda popular among the kids at first, and Zhou Shen took a huge risk in this competition to change from his original choice of another song to this song last minute, the complexities: his own idea to use different voices, the super hard to pronounce gibberish names, the speed up part (not sure why but I think it has to do with him challenging the original thinking of: Who says human can't do better than AI/software in a crazy song like this?

His voice sent such pleasure and goosebumps to my soul and my whole body. From then on I couldn’t get enough of his voice. ❤

He is clever, talented and funny too, but he also has a dark side. The song I saw Zhou Shen perform first that totally and utterly drew me in was Ring The Doorbell and Listen To Yourself (The Singer 2020). I'm certain you'll have some interesting thoughts and feelings about that performance. I highly recommend it and can't wait to see your reaction! I love his song Big Fish too, and it has an even greater effect on me than just listening to it as a song, because it it the theme of an incredibly beautiful film called Big Fish and Begonia that is intensely emotional. Big Fish was a huge hit for Zhou Shen in China.

Ring The Doorbell and Listen To Yourself (The Singer 2020) This is SUCH an incredible artistic performance. It is darker and so very intense. Just beautiful. It was written by an older man 高晓松 (Gao Xiao Song) who had written in a different person (ie not first person), inspired by his time in the revolutionary army, and his older comrades from that time all growing old. I think he had been waiting for years before giving it to anyone. Zhou Shen asked to sing it, and did a demo, and Gao said he wasn't mature enough yet. Several years later, Zhou Shen made another demo of it, and Gao was satisfied and allowed him to produce it for Singer 2020. Zhou Shen worked with a woman producer 尹约(Yin Yue) Gao knows to rework it in first person and have it a suitable song for a younger man. I believe that Gao was there when Zhou Shen sang it on the show and was totally blown away. He couldn't have asked for a better artisitc rendition of it.
You should react to it first. Then you can watch the video with English subtitles of Zhou Shen Facetiming with the writer Gao at the time when they were working on it, and Zhou Shen gets constructive criticism live over the phone. Gao told Zhou Shen he has never in his life seen a singer grow and mature so quickly, from the scared uncertain young man who was first on stage at Voice of China in 2016, to him in Singer 2020, when he did Da La Beng Ba, Ring the Doorbell and Listen to Yourself and all these other incredible, creative top notch performances.

Zhou Shen's well known for his angelic voice, professional skills, voice switching, emotional delivery and languages. There's no special voice effects in his singing. And, he's the one of the few vocals who always insists to sing live in all events even for whole rehearsals. His talents, attitude and professionalism are soooooo impressive and respectful. ❤❤❤

I have come back your channel twice so to await your reaction to this song. Just to supplement someone downstairs, in this Zhou was telling an adventure story in this song, and played all the roles by different tones. The song was originally sung by a VocalVoid. It was a last minute change of choice for this competition, so had only few hours of rehearsal after rearrangement. The names of the Hero/ Princess / Drangon/ Baby. and Town are very long, more than 12 words. Maybe could react to " Cowboy very busy " , a duet " Laughing song" and his signature song "Big Fish " ( which he does alot of different variations endings ). Also 2 duets " Doomsday Spaceship and " Cassini " (about the end cycle of the satellite ). Last two was written and performed by Tang Hanxiao , one is a live performance, the other MV with NASA clips

Dalabengba song was a last min change during his rehearsal of an original song he was supposed to sing. If I am correct , Zhou Shen ( Charlie Zhou) did the changes of the original Dalabengba song in abt 36 hours before he performed. Given such a short time he was able to come out with this song and performed so incredibly good, I am totally totally 💯 incredibly amazed at his talent. He had a tough beginning of his singing career and now his talent has been recognized, I am really really happy for him. Beside being a talented artist and now a very famous person, he is still a very humble and down to earth person with a very kind heart.

I love this reaction video because it’s so fun seeing other people’s reactions when they listen to this the first time. I’ve heard ShenShen (that’s how we fans call him) sing in a similar style prior to this performance but I was also mind blown watching this the first time. This song went viral in China when he performed it in early 2020 and made him a household name, even for those people who don’t normally listen to music.

I have been waiting for you to react to Zhou Shen and glad that you enjoyed it. :) If you want to see more of him, I would recommend in your third reaction to listen to one with a totally different style from Memory and Dalabengba - “Ring the door bell and listen myself” or “Moonlight”. The former is dark and Zhou Shen delivered it with a lot of amazing vocal expressions; the latter also showcases his amazing skills in singing but more importantly he is not having the skills to overtake the emotional expression in this song. It is heartfelt and I have repeated Moonlight a hundred times myself and still cannot get enough of it.

Charlie managed to handle the whole song alone all by himself yet achieving what the original song supposed to sound like. He just recently released a song by Disney call I am Star. The original got a lot of singers but Zhou Shen sing it alone with different voice. Should give it a listen. Not live stage for that cos he said is impossible to sing it live.
LOL, impossible to sing live because there are choruses with five to ten voices that are all him. There’s been a trend of recording multiple live versions of Zhou Shen and having him chorus with himself, the most successful one is the Billibilli “Four Famous Books”, but the sheer number of voices in “I’m a Star” would make the logistics very difficult.

Charlie Zhou Shen is an amazing singer with a beautiful and powerful voice. I listen to his songs day and night. He also has a very good character setting excellent models to his fans. Both Big Fish and Dalebengba are old songs. Please listen to his more recent songs and you will find that his singing skills have continued to develop to a very high level in recent years.
