But it kind of true though. Look at most fashion influencers. Theyvare dumb. They don't understand art. They are just show offs
I think its not even just body/racial diversity we need, its also general beauty diversity. Most models fit the beauty criteria of : slim nose, high cheekbones, small chin, almond eyes, spotless skin, perfect teeth. Would like to see more definitions of what is actually beautiful on the face.

Love this series! Alexa Chung is really cute. I think what models are like (tall, extremely skinny, etc.) and people's view of beauty have a mutural impact on each other. We can't simply blame either side. A balance between standard view and the way each individual is like is the most important thing.

As a psychology student and as a woman I really appreciate Alexa and Vogue work through this serie, especially this episode, because I guess that this can be the begin of a social and cultural revolution which hopefully will promote changes in cognitions and behaviors of young people, in order to reduce mental illnesses and social issues such as bullying, segregation and exclusion. I really will like that in the future, fashion industry and mass media start to promote an interdisciplinary perspective of what does mean fashion and how they can make it more acceptable and healthy promoting population wellbeing.
Loving this series so much, the psychology and fashion aspect is so interesting and it's amazing to see people in the industry working to create more diversity! You really need your own youtube channel Alexa you'd be amazing!

Gigi and Cara are great, enough personality and advocacy for the right things, but from a genuine place, and their own personal style too. Kendall I have never been totally sold on - and that's still me trying to see her on her own merits (because her family are just... yeah. Best not lol.).

OMG, this summer I went to a short course with UAL London College of Fashion and I went into the library and it was breathtaking, tones of books just about fashion. Its crazy to watch it now on the video.
Good to see influential celebrities raising the awareness of body image, size ,shape and diversity. More needs to be done in our fashion schools if tomorrows fashion designers are to be empathic to the differences our population come in, understand how the body changes shape as it gets larger and how this impacts on design proportion and scale!!

This series is amazing, so fun yet educational! Alexa Chung was also the perfect choice for this as well, keep up the good work Vogue. I especially loved when Alexa Chung talked about body image, there is so much skinny-shaming nowadays and people tend to brush it off as being an okay thing to say (which its NOT) so its good to hear Alexa and Caryn shed light on that issue!
This series is great! I very much support diversity of beauty and body type in the fashion industry. I find it interesting that the tall and lean body type as the popular ideal for fashion models is not really discussed in relation to the cost of manufacturing clothing samples, it only really seems to be discussed in relation to beauty and aesthetics. I would think that the tall and lean body type, both historically and today, is idealized to some degree in fashion design because producing clothing samples in small standard sizes is more cost effective fabric wise/production wise than producing samples for larger body types or a range of body types. The ideal sample size then informs the choice of model used in marketing, fashion shows etc. and this trickle's down to inform society's beauty ideals, though I acknowledge that it is more complex than this. It would be interesting to see this explored on a platform such as this series or in a publication such as British Vogue and to hear opinions on this from leading people in the fashion industry, especially those who use a range of body types in their shows and marketing, and hear about the impact this has on their businesses.

Exactly it’s cheaper to produce when all the models are one size and slim. But the problem is the extent to which these models have to be slim where they give up proper amounts of nutrients to only have liquids days before fashion shows. That’s the problem. That they are way too thin.
Hi Alexa !! I love the series ur making. Could you possibly interview Victoria Beckham and ask how she found it coming into the fashion industry and what were the difficulties she faced ? Also if you could cover how major fashion houses such as Chanel and Versace became the names they are today?

Fashion will never promote a healthy image, there is a huge profit in beauty exploitation. How much money would be lost if people felt so good with themselves that they actually wouldn't need to buy expensive makeup and clothes to look prettier, starve and exercise like crazy, dye their hair blonde every 15 days, take diet pills, read stupid magazines to keep up with trends, etc? Economy would probably collapse if all these vain and superficial airheads stopped wishing to fit in size 00 jeans and putting themselves (or others) in debt to buy a pair of designer's shoes but focused on something more substantial for a change.
+Rachel Summers Grey makes humanity run around like mice...your statement is so true...if the mice where fed constantly and happy there since of urgency would change. They would be more relaxed....same thing with humanities mad dash to shallow demands.

Please. Cara Delevingne didn't change the face of fashion. Only reason she even was a model is cuz she got lucky. Her thick eyebrows were a trend. Nothing else really great about her. She was like any other skinny white, blue eye white girl from a rich family. I respect Kendall a lot more as a model because her look is very different from the conventional beauty. She also gets a lot of hate but she still keep doing what she loves. Cara didn't even like to model and seems very ungrateful of the fame she got, even though thousands of girls don't ever get that chance. Gigi for sure is changing the game. She is so different from the other girls. She stood up for herself in a very different way. Didn't get on Twitter to call them out, like most celebs do. Her words were very strong and beautiful.
I love Kendall as a person I really do. But people hire and book her as a model mostly because of her name and the fan that is attached to her. I don't think they purposefully booked her because she looked different. She has a horrendous walk and does not deserve all the chances she gets in fashion because she doesn't work for them! Cara on the other hand worked hard to where she is now. Cara didn't want to be a model yes but there is where she started. She never liked being a model because her greater goal was to be an actress. That's why she seems ungrateful but after all, she worked hard. I adore Gigi, again she is another girl who was hired solely for publicity but she is very intelligent and incredibly humble. All in all, I think all 3 girls haven't done much to increase diversity solely because they are hired for shows because of their fame and not because of how different they look.
+FlyWithYanyiii I feel like in the beginning of Kendall's career she was hired for the publicity but as she became more professional, she was more respected for her unique look, personality, and skill. Ya she got a head start push because of her family status but wouldn't anyone take that chance if it means you'll do what you love. The whole 'she's successful only for her family name' trend is dying down.

THERE"S ALWAYS A GOOD TIME FOR REVOLUTION IN FASHION
My dream is to see the fashion industry adopt true visual diversity. Being a plus size woman who loves fashion I'd love nothing more than to truly be able to experience high fashion and incorporate it into my life rather than merely admiring it in magazines and online by seeing designers manufacture a full range of sizes from 000-6x for example. I'd also love to see all fashion designers also include models of a wide variety of sizes so that women can actually see what the clothes look like on their own body and not one they completely can't relate to. I think all women (or men) deserve to feel beautiful and to express themselves the way they want to no matter their clothing size.
I wasn't even going to watch another episode because I find the presenter's voice off putting and her presenting awful, but I saw this clip and had to comment. The part where Alexa Chung is all 'woe is me' because people call her scrawny... people actually call her anorexic because of the obvious drastic weight loss over the years. Had she been scrawny since day one, it wouldn't even be a big deal but sadly for Alexa, google exists and pictures of her past are all over google. Her fans defend her by saying it's natural baby fat loss or whatever, which is utter BS. You lose the baby fat by the time you are 13 through 17 or 18. Alexa was well in her 20's when she was a healthy looking adult at the time. That all changed in 2009 when she emerged as a living breathing skeleton on her MTV show. It was so shocking it made news in the media. Alexa doesn't help the situation by saying she has always been this thin naturally, when in fact that's not true. The photos of her on google from 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 don't lie even though Alexa does. Her "natural thinness" excuse that she gives in her interviews is a sad joke. Own up to it already. Sadly, millions of young girls who look up to Alexa, want to be like her. They starve themselves to dress like her. They starve themselves to fit into her ridiculously expensive clothing brand AC for AG Jeans. The largest size in her clothing line is a "Large" or "32" and there's a reason I put that in parenthesis because her clothing line is actually much smaller then the actual size displayed on the tag. A "Large" fits like a small/medium. The largest size for her jeans, which is 32, fits on a woman who is a size 6 - 8. Her line does not carry plus sizes. The average America woman is a size 14. You would think as she is all about "loving all shapes and sizes" that her American clothing line would have X1-XXX3 or bigger size jeans like size 10-26 (34-48). What a hypocrite.

I'm enjoying this series but every video seems to include a passive-aggressive "dig" towards fashion blogging; a sort-of "pffft" attitude. Alexa's one of my longtime idols but it's disappointing to see that she clearly thinks it's a bit of "silly" area of the industry with no backbone~ as such.. if we're trying to break down the triviality that surrounds the fashion industry, surely all aspects of fashion deserve the same respect? Like, of course there's a course on blogging in LCF - it's a huge industry that's only getting bigger and bigger - and it's a full-time career for thousands of people worldwide (including myself) - why wouldn't someone who's interested in taking that path, study a short course on it if they're able to? Blogging snobbery is really getting quite boring and if you still don't take it seriously, you're being very, very foolish tbh.

Maybe popular culture and real-life discrimination are separate issues, I don't fell bad at all when I idolize white, American/Wester European musicians, movie stars or models..but at the same time, I don't see them as "the superior race" or anything like that..

I'm really enjoying this series but I was wondering what your views are on 'art jewellery'? And if you think that there is a chance for jewellers to be regarded in the same light at fashion designers? Although the general public lack a deeper appreciation of fashion and the importance and the impact that the designs can carry I feel, as an independent jeweller, jewellery is something that has an even greater lack of appreciation. It is almost always seen as nothing more than an accessory. There are artist/designers out there creating socially aware and concept driven pieces of jewellery which, I believe, deserve to be spoken about but, outside of a niche market that are already aware, jewellery is very rarely treated with the same regard as fashion. I don't know if this is the right place to post this comment but it is has been on my mind for a while and thought this was as good a place as any. If anybody has any opinions or are interested in talking about some exciting jewellery designers please let me know

at my university all design students have psychology courses.
I think it's normal that we idolize skinny , good looking women for modeling purposes.. of course there needs to be a range of beauty standards within casual life, for dating or marrying but high fashion or fashion in general, has to idolize thin people who look great in any outfit...
there's a wider issue with race and culture in general that seems very complex and hard to understand , why is that everything in our culture revolves around an idealized version of major American cities, of white people doing interesting or glamorous things
