The smile on Pavarotti’s face at the end of the aria says it all. He knew this was a moment for the history books and he was so happy to be a part of this amazing performance. Madam Price and he delivered the goods in a compelling performance! Thrilled that this is posted he for all to enjoy.
They are both so on top of it. Brilliant performance. Ms. Price looks stunning and sounds superb. Pavarotti was at the peak of his powers. Thank God this clip exists. It should inspire generations of singers in the future.
@David Perkins Madame Price retired from the operatic stage in 1985 at the age of 57 . And she sang like the great artist/Diva that she is. When she sang the aria O Patria Mia it was hypnotic. I transferred my TWO VCR tapes to DVD. Because her farewell performance was pure gold. Arnaud Bourbon Amaral
Ms. Price brought out the best in Pavarotti. He gave her every support and attention to detail in his singing. She was such a professional in all ways and he responded in kind. A marvelous performance. His respect for her is so evident. :)Those two smiles could light up the heavens.
yes and he encouraged many young singers with his yearly contest and the prize was to sing with him, and many of them are still singing today, he has lots of good results from all his charity.
they almost out bested each other, but they excelled and bested the whole audience. sublime, superb, sensational splendid.a treat for the ears and the soul.......
"Amelia, m'ami!!!" I feel in such a good mood today, I think I could fall in love with Pavarotti's voice over and over again, and I am! It's fascinating to watch how he's becoming the character as he starts to sing. I love opera and I adore him! Thank you, Daiana, you made my day!
Even if maestra Price is little bit flat she has right to be - she's 60 years old in this video! I would like to see any of novadays sopranos singing like that in this age! With this intensivity, with beautiful sound and culture of singing.

I appreciate the posting Daiana Rosman but please go back and correct the spelling of the most celebrated American soprano of this century’s name!! Her name is misspelled and I don’t understand how because you can find it spelled correctly anywhere!!
.......and she NEVER was ! She considered every spinto or dramatic soprano inferior to her. If you listen to her voice in live or studio recordings - it's ALWAYS the same. Sound without any expression. So, let her be unpleased, no one minds !
@@sosexymagazinerobinwatkins8467 It was well after midnight and they’d been been waiting a long time. That may be why they don’t sound at their absolute tip- top best. Also she was 56, and can’t be expected to sound like she did on her 1966 recording. 17 years is a long time in a singer’s life. Nevertheless, she’s pretty darn good.
@@VeikkoHiiri In the final high note at the end of the duet , the C, Pavarotti who was a "light" tenor (a tenorino) covers Price completely, you see how Price opnes her wide mouth and you cannot listen anything. Her voice was so little on top, the higher she goes the narrower her voice becomes, she never had power in the high notes
This is the Met Centennial Gala from 1983. I remember watching this live and being completely blown away by this performance!
Madame Priceless was 55 yrs old. And rocked ❤

I wish these two had sung together more often!! Bravi!!
Imagine the sonic space that both these performers inhabited for the length of this duet!

She certainly isn't. She's clearly struggling with the music
@@PrinceOberon87 For 56, and singing past midnight, she sounds terrific!

I know. She was a few weeks short of 58 at her farewell. And she sang regularly for another dozen years.@@arnoldamaral3814

This duet, as performed here, MUST be a masterclass for aspiring singers that want or intend to sing Verdi !
OMG The dynamics on both voices are unmatched to this day.
Absolutely fantastic and what the "Golden Age of Singing" is all about.
this is so much fun, watching two of the greatest singers of that period up together for the finale of the Gala! What a perfect piece! Love this.
Semplicemente. Meraviglioso ❤❤

Impassioned singing and thrilling high notes by Price and Pavarotti.

I love the both. She was sixty years old and still in the top form
56.
she knew when to use her interest, and when to dip into the capital a bit, this was one of those capital nights 😅🤭🤪😊😊

La Milanov è migliore di Price, che qui aveva la voce non più in tiro.
Лучший дует в мире!
OMG! ❤❤❤
Mi osito santo te quiero mucho ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I think Zinka was very fond of Pavarotti because she was giving a very strong applause when he turned towards the honorees
A guess.

1983
I believe this was 1983, not 1987.
apparently you don't know what the definition of, "flat" is...she is on TOP of every phrase, every note!!
Relabel! It was 1983!
They share the same initials LP

Luciano è fenomenale, chiarissima dizione,Leontyne, una voce un poco più usurata, con grande fascino, ma non si capisce assolutamente nessuna parola
I've never heard Leontyne sing flat btw ... 🤔
Something must be wrong with your ears.
I think Zinka has resting "diva/angry" face! She is NOT impressed at all....about anything. lol.
Price sounds flat to be honest. Not her usual seamless brilliance.
Please indicate where. My ears are pretty tight and on point...I dont hear it.
