Hey Mark, you and Joymachine have lured me back onto a motorcycle after around a 15 year gap and now looking forward to some summer adventures. Couldn’t stretch to full Harley style but got a Triumph t100 Bonneville, first non Yamaha I have ever had. In my 61st year now and got to get some more adventures in before it’s too late. Have a great year and keep them coming.
@@tonyfrewin4822 Ah we watch those guys .. love the Joy Machine , love his old evo ! That’s great to hear we have played a small role in you getting back on 2 wheels after that huge gap . I remember in 2002, pulling into bilbao after 600 miles from benidorm on a sportsbike that had a 100 mile range. It was October and raining, the bike was on fumes. I managed to get fuel from what was literally a pump on the side of the road, then proceeded to try and find digs. I swear a couple of the hotel receptionists just looked me up and down, dripping on their floors, and lied about being full. At one point I honestly thought I was going to sleep in a shop doorway. Managed to find somewhere in the end, next town up called Santurizi ( think that's how it's spelt ).
@@TheLeevtr ah mate can imagine how bad you wanted that room after that ride, yeah I definitely know that look from the reception desk. And it’s why Lisa goes in. Glad you got somewhere in the end. Nothing worse than being wet and sleeping rough , makes for a very long night and achey next day ! Happy safe travels.
A few years ago (it was also October) I rode from Mojacar to Cuenca, on back roads. I mistakenly thought it would take me about 6 hours but oh no. Mojacar temperature was in the high 20s, Cuenca was like 5 degrees and I had to keep stopping to warm up and putting more and more layers on. By the time I arrived I couldn’t feel my feet even though I was wearing all the clothes I had packed and had uncontrollable shivers. Maybe I was sick with something but I had to lie in the hottest bath of water I could stand to warm up. It’s worth considering that Cuenca elevation is nearly 3500 feet above sea level and the evenings get cool. Like you, my first impression of Cuenca was that it was a modern busy city with confusing roads but it is so worth visiting the old town with the cathedral and the ‘hanging houses’ along the gorge. Hope you get to see it.

As usual, another cracking video brother. Them roads look amazing and can't wait to experience them myself. Happy new year to you and Lisa and the girls. Take it easy and ride safe and maybe we'll meet for a coffee sometimes on our travels
I stayed in the same hotel in Cuenca on my way south this summer (the lift was really annoying!). Very popular with motorcyclists due to the parking. Just a few blocks north west of the hotel is the old walled city of Cuenca. The next day I did the same route riding south that you've just taken heading north, across the dead straight roads of La Mancha and through the mountains to Andujar, about 250 miles, I stayed on country roads so it took most of the day. As you know the riding is great. I had riden through Cuenca National Park the previous day to get there which was also superb. Be interested to see your next episode, if you rode there as well.
@@jjg1962 ah great , yeah lots bikers there the night we was . We did go up to walled city for breakfast. Up the cobblestone streets . Beautiful. Great episode guys, what a ride that was . You weren’t to far for my buds place, he brought one of those old farmhouses in the middle of nowhere and renovated it. 10 acres and loads of our buildings for about £60k. I always lie on a sunbed every evening with his binoculars and my star app just looking at the stars it so clear. It’s a observatory at the top of that mountain. Catch up soon bud 👍

I was really interested to hear your concerns about weight, loaded, as I quite fancy one of these. I have a GS Adventure for touring right now but it is just so common (but great) and Norton's, Triumphs etc. I had a Harley Heritage 114 in 2021 (lasted 100 miles until the gearbox broke), but aside from crappy panniers, it is a lot lighter and rides great - would that be better for you? The roads in Spain look amazing, I may have to buy one of these Specials and put a screen on it, no sat nav, just Spaghetti Western scenery.... Epic video as ever, and BTW, shots are looking quite Wim Wenders these days, good work.
@@stevereilly Good to hear from you, tbh on reflection I think the big problem with weight distribution on this trip was the new rack I bought for the rear. I got it because the old one was put on by previous owner and it was cheap , hence paint started peeling , the new rack I liked the design , kinda scoops up , but major floor when you put two bags on , the top one sticks out the back one probably 6 inch further back than it would have done on previous rack. So it’s not only high weight , it’s hanging way back . It was really concerning in the wet . The weight of the bike itself . I’m totally comfortable with , even loaded up it does it with ease when it’s not hanging off the back . I can’t remember the stats of weight load on Gs but u did look a couple years back and the road king special could carry a hell of a lot more weight. Statistically it could carry Lisa and me and another Lisa and me ..and still not me overloaded , but the racks gotta go before we head off to Scotland , and I need to cut down on few bits . I love the look of the heritage, but the softail frame definitely don’t carry the same kinda load , we could definitely tour on one for sure. But for me RKS is better choice . Thanks for the kind words , I love love Paris-Texas . Best wishes mate .
@@LeanIntoTheWind I think you're right on the Heritage, you've got me sorely temped on the RKS now, maybe with a screen as I'm a lightweight, Would take a police version if I could get one, do the Route 66 and ship it back. Norton Commando arrives this week, going old school. Cheers

What a video, and those roads are truly amazing. But 7 hours on those mountain / country roads, that's tough going man ! The other issue I have is fuel. I get about 130 miles to a tank, on an 109cubic inch so im wondering how you get on, on a 114cubic inch? Do you carry a small back up can ?
@@SteveM109r Cheers mate , great roads out there . Nah on the current bike no worries with fuel , we get 250 miles out a tank .. so no need for spare fuel . Even at 130 miles fine out there , just so long as you keep on top of it . My old chopper only had 2 gallon tank and the bike was hotted up , so I only used to get 60 miles on tank . But I’d carry a spare gallon on big road trips , and even then rolled into a few garages on fumes haha .
Thanks again both.
