They have been through so much together: having to witness Syd Barrett's breakdown, surviving for a few years for just pocket money while making incredible albums, then the commercial breakthrough with "Dark side of the moon" which catapulted them into the serious major league, then having to see this behemoth called Pink Floyd growing in legend and size, until it got wrenched apart by egos and in-fighting. @@jeffaxman799 Roger left the band dont forget that.. He is not a member of the band, he may have had a huge influence in writing the songs but he left the band, simple as that..
I don't claim to know any of these guys to any degree of detail but Gilmour, though always pleasant, is aloof and seems always to be mildly annoyed and fed up with whatever is at hand. Waters comes across as an in-closet narcissist needing in the minimum to be acknowledged. This is a toxic mix. These guys should never be left alone in the same room. The fact is these guys are absolute legends so even their idiosyncrasies is a pleasure for mere mortals like us to experience but they don't see each other as legends, just an old friend who's difficult as hell to put up with now.
@Luke Austin comes across = appears to be "appears" implies an onlooker who in this case is me. So in essence, I'm just saying how he appears in my eyes.
Man that's a really powerful video. I absolutely love pink Floyd and imo are the greatest band ever. I have wonder what music they would have made if they stayed together. But we wouldn't have all the great songs post Roger.
They can't possibly forget all the good memories they have together and they should finally make peace and reunite for the best reunion concert of the history of classic rock!
Them meeting between those two studios, and then ultimately the deterioration of their relationship over the coming years... it's literally the album cover of Wish You Were Here. Unbelievably foreshadowing
Looked uncomfortable indeed but at least they were pleasant Such a wonderful duo and contributed some unforgettable music together Guess time doesn't always heal all the hurt - but the music remains superb
Pink floyd could be pink floyd without Gilmour -Waters. Waters is an Idiot. -Gilmour. Is like see two little children fight. -Mason. I would like play in live, like old times, with the guys. -Wright. I wish the group, my friends, make good stuff, they are marvelous doing music and things. -Barret.
Roger put that very badly, but he was the driving force in the years after Syd imploded. Waters was the lyricist, and the main contributor to the music itself. In a group like Zeppelin, lyrics do not mean as much. In a group like Pink Floyd, lyrics mean much, much more. Gilmour's guitar was essential to Floyd's sound in the years after Syd left, but without Waters, no Floyd. Without Gilmour, a diluted Floyd could have existed.
@dread true how could you say Waters is bad _musically_ when he _musically_ composed the majority of their songs in the 70s? Roger wrote more _music_ than any other member of the band.
It was sad for me to watch this clip. While none of us will ever truly know the reason(s) for their seeming discomfort with one another, it reminds me of just how much the human condition can cause man to lose sight of the the great accomplishments they once had, or made together. I could not help but think to myself that Rogers and Gilmour look like two broken Parts of what was once a great Sum. I truly love Pink Floyd, and I am grateful that I was alive to experience their art. Man, I really love their music!
After all the years together and subsequent separation it's time to stop the douchbagery and enjoy your success and life journey you were on together. Time/Life is fleeting. Thanks for all the fantastic music and shows.
literally just walked through the door. Saw Roger at Madison Square Garden tonight. Awesome show. I was lucky enough to see Pink Floyd at Giants stadium in 94. Man I wish these guys would just get back together ❤️.
I’m a strictly Syd Barrett era fan and not having a dog in this fight between Roger and Dave, Pink Floyd would not have continued without Roger. He was the driving force for the band after Syd went downhill. He kept the ship afloat and Dave helped regain the stability they lost once Syd left. But I appreciate both Roger and Dave for keeping the band active and relevant for so long. I look at their separation like a marriage between two people that are growing apart and we can blame one or the other, but they weren’t meant to stick around together after a certain period of time. Sometimes relationships have a shelf life. I hold no ill feeling towards either of them. They chose their path and they became successful.
Pink Floyd flourished after Syd left. And Pink Floyd literally did continue after Roger left and they went on to make one of their best albums The division bell.
I'm a Syd era fan too. But the fact that it was Dave (Syd's replacement) who worked with Syd on his solo records that did the most to try and get him back on track. With deeds, not words.
When I saw the title of this video I thought this would be some new footage and I really looked forward to see these two men greeting each other with some kind of "warmth", if it's even possible in this case. I don't know how they're getting along nowadays or if they are in connection with each other at all, but Dave and Roger reminded me of Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost, somehow. I truly wish my best to both of them and I am forever grateful for their life-changing music.
The loss of Pink was a game changer, but when Roger fell out with Floyd and the others they were done..............and now Roger Waters is a footnote, and a running joke.
It’s weird.. them meeting in the middle alley of a film studio is giving me strong “wish you were here” cover vibes.. especially given their relationship and rogers “fiery” persona
They even played Live together once in a while, After the one-off Reunion with Pink Floyd in 2005. Now they hit each other in their heads again. Come on! Please say sorry to one another, shake hands, Because someday you are gonna die and don't have a chance to reconnect your relationship.
Two amazing musicians in their own right not to mention what they did with Floyd! Don't know any of them personally ( unfortunately!) but still makes me sad that two people who have gone through so much together and created so many works of utter genius, dont talk or colaberate anymore #davidgilmour #rogerwaters #pinkfloyd
I’m always torn as whether I’m sorry they don’t get along and what we’ve missed from a creative side or if we were lucky they didn’t get along and pushed each other to be genius. These two are the most underrated musicians and creators in music history.
For a long time I was, as well. But if you read Mark Blake's book about the band you will have your answer. It is undeniably the latter. Had they been best friends, it wouldn't have worked. As a friend of mine put it, "David and Roger were perfect together. The only problem was that they hated each other."
Twas an evening baked in the dry summer heat, when, in my eye's periphery, I caught sight of something Pink. Broken and contused, with more than a hint of eternal separation.......
Its just great to see them talking,i don't really think they really could justify 24 years of not speaking when together they made one of the top albums ever.
Por suerte se lo pude transmitir a mis hijos.. Y un día se cumplió mi dueño, pude ver junto a mis hijos a Roger y David. INOLVIDABLE momento que atesoro en mi corazón.
Oh I wish these 2 could make up and put their differences aside it’s so sad I feel for both of them… I’m sure deep down they love and respect each other … it’s that damn pride and ego thing that trips all of us from time to time …. Can you imagine if they were to put their differences aside and then go out and have a few beers together … I think they know that life’s too short … they are both intelligent and amazing guys … guys it’s not too late you ain’t dead yet …. Come in give it a go.
Remember 1971 Roger? I love everything you have done you are a treasure, but you're human also. Behind every creative idea lies the inspiration for it, on June 1971 in baton rouge is where yours lies. I know all about it brick by brick including the gatefold. We are only human, all of us
David Gilmour, such a warm and humble human being imho. One of those guys who made me wanna play the guitar. Music is only music but life is the meaning of our existence in space and time. And our time is like a musical piece - it will end at some point and arrogance and envy will become meaningless. It’s their private thing really and I could not judge. From what I see as a fanboy, David has really much warmness for me and he seems to be a happy individual who carried on with his life. While Roger comes across as restless and driven always critizing and angry. He would know why. Cheers.
Met my old bandmate near the studio The sun was shining though I grieved I stole behind him in the parking lot And I touched him on the sleeve Couldn't see each others' face at first But then our eyes flew open wide He went to hug me, to expel the curse And we laughed but on th' inside We drank a toast to innocence We drank a toast to now And tried to reach beyond the emptiness But neither one knew how Said he was eager with his brand new band Who kept his creative levels high He would've liked to say he loved them more But he didn't like to lie I said the years had been a friend to him And that his eyes were still as blue But in those eyes, I wasn't sure if I Saw doubt or gratitude He said he saw me in the record stores And that I must be doing well I said, "The newer stuff was heavenly But I'd rather Run Like Hell" We drank a toast to innocence We drank a toast to now And tried to reach beyond the emptiness But neither one knew how We drank a toast to innocence We drank a toast to TIME We've ticked away the moments that make up Another auld lang syne TIME was passing, and our tongues were tired And running out of things to say He gave a kiss to my sweet Polly girl And I watched him walk away Just for a moment, I saw Abbey Road And felt the old familiar pain And as we turned to make our way back home The sun turned into rain
Long time coming! These guys all make a soundtrack to our lives. They have a love for each other that will overcome money and ego. When that happens..watch out. We will be blown away again!!
I've been with my wife for 22 years. It's a commitment that has made me blind to the world. You see, there are many ways this can play out. The most important thing is that we can understand each other so we can continue for our kids. Where she grows, I understand, where I grow.... she feels me. What happened to you guys?
Well they didnt punch eath other :-) Both of them wish for a kind of union/friendship. Roger just does´nt have that inner peace like David and that, I think, is the biggest reason for his hidden anger.. So no one is bad.. its just life i guess..
David has been the one standing in the way of Floyd reforming since live 8. Even then it was Roger who picked up the phone. I prefer them apart anyway, but it's not down to Roger that they remain so.
Gosh u could feel the awkwardness & tension so much. What happened w Pink Floyd happens in so many bands tho. It’s impossible for every personality to mesh for years & years. Roger wrote great songs but David’s what took them to the sound so many of us love
All Rodger had to do is step into Gilmour's rehearsal studio and say lets jam. Besides they were rehearsing his songs. Kind of sad to see its just a business. Much love to the PINK FLOYD family.
Buddha Joe Coughlin I heard ‘Echoes’, ‘Breathe’ and ‘Comfortably Numb’, which are not entirely Waters’ songs. He wrote the lyrics for these three songs, but didn’t have anything to do with the music... I think that Gilmour only played one song in his solo tours that is entirely credited to Waters, and that would be ‘Money’. All the other songs are credited to Syd Barrett, Gilmour and Waters or Waters and Wright (like ‘Us and them’). For example (Remember that Night-dvd), David played ‘Shine on’, credited to Gilmour, Waters and Wright, ‘Fat Old sun’, credited to Gilmour alone, ‘Coming back to life’, credited to Gilmour alone, ‘High hopes’, credited to Gilmour and his wife Polly Samson, ‘Echoes’, which is a ‘Wright, Gilmour, Waters, Mason’ song, ‘Wish you were here’, credited to Gilmour and Waters, ‘Arnold Layne’ (Syd Barrett), Comfortably Numb (Gilmour, Waters), Breathe (Gilmour, Waters, Wright) and Time (Waters, Wright, Mason, Gilmour)

@@mikefraser4513He was telling stories of Syd and people were heckling in the crowd. I think its fair enough that he done that.
I love when they don't hide their respect, regard, and affection for each other. The broken years are so painful. Let's never go back there.
Dear all, please remind me never to act that way to someone who was once a friend.
They were band acquaintances, I don't think they were ever friends.
Mike Goldstone what do you mean? They both seemed to be very polite to eachother
@@Fireman-tj5iz They're Brits, you know ;)
Bro Brian very well said
@@Fireman-tj5iz Yes, I thought their hug was a big thing for two posh British guys from that era. People are judging it based on their own perception of friendliness.
It is as though they have been through a war together until one of them switched sides as it was about to end.....what a finale!
"wrenched apart by ego [singular] and in-fighting" would be more precise.
En verano siempre veo este video y el ambiente se enfría en instantes!
Yo hago lo mismo cuando tengo una bajada de tensión!!. :D
This was 2006. Roger and David have played together several times since then.
Shawn Jesseman they played twice that's hardly several times.
@@joebryant8500 fuck you're right.
They played together in 2010 and 2011 for charity. Hardly several times.
Yeah, but it’s been all in Dave’s control not letting Roger sing and having another bass player. Pretty pathetic.
@@jeffaxman799 Roger left the band dont forget that.. He is not a member of the band, he may have had a huge influence in writing the songs but he left the band, simple as that..
can't ignore Rick playing hymns of echoes. Goosebumps!
They are mere mortals too getting old.
@Luke Austin comes across = appears to be
"appears" implies an onlooker who in this case is me.
I would have expected a hand shake at the beginning..that pretty much told everything I needed to know
That group of guys put out some of the best music ever.
Them meeting between those two studios, and then ultimately the deterioration of their relationship over the coming years... it's literally the album cover of Wish You Were Here. Unbelievably foreshadowing
Looked uncomfortable indeed but at least they were pleasant
Such a wonderful duo and contributed some unforgettable music together
Guess time doesn't always heal all the hurt - but the music remains superb
After all has gone on in the press means little, the unbelievable talent these guys have together that can not be taken away.
When roger asked "was it fun?", I literally dropped some tears. It sounded almost genuine for half a second.
Someone should really get these two together, they'd make some great music.
Fast forward six months --
Pink floyd could be pink floyd without Gilmour
-Waters.
Waters is an Idiot.
-Gilmour.
Is like see two little children fight.
-Mason.
I would like play in live, like old times, with the guys.
-Wright.
I wish the group, my friends, make good stuff, they are marvelous doing music and things.
-Barret.
Waters sucks thats it
Barrett is like an old sage giving his wisdom
Roger put that very badly, but he was the driving force in the years after Syd imploded. Waters was the lyricist, and the main contributor to the music itself. In a group like Zeppelin, lyrics do not mean as much. In a group like Pink Floyd, lyrics mean much, much more. Gilmour's guitar was essential to Floyd's sound in the years after Syd left, but without Waters, no Floyd. Without Gilmour, a diluted Floyd could have existed.
@@905if6was9 100% true.
@dread true how could you say Waters is bad _musically_ when he _musically_ composed the majority of their songs in the 70s? Roger wrote more _music_ than any other member of the band.
Good to see they can be civil towards each other. It’s been so very long. RIP Rick.
Glad to see they can be civil towards each other. Great band!
Well Polly, you done did it now!
Fucking drama man :(, I mean Rogo says a lot of crap but he's not antisemitic and misogynist at all
What a gift it was to grow-up with Pink floyd.
Here Here
God that was awkward..
Travis Bickle that's not awkward they are still mates just not up each others asses like the old days
Didn't Roger say he never liked Gilmour some months ago?
Guy's ego ruined Pink Floyd
Ernesto Gomes Bolaños couldn't agree more, feel sorry for rick and nick being in the middle of that particular fued.
True. But before ruining it, the guy *made* Pink Floyd.
Dima Klondt Actually, it was syd barrett who made pink floyd
After all the years together and subsequent separation it's time to stop the douchbagery and enjoy your success and life journey you were on together. Time/Life is fleeting. Thanks for all the fantastic music and shows.
TEAR DOWN THE WALL!!
What I see here is They have respect for eachother. That friendship bond carries on forever imo.
literally just walked through the door.
Hipster
If I read they’re body language correctly
RW: I have regrets
DG: Yeah, I know
DG: a bit late though
their
Roger doesn't have regrets he's the first who wants to go out of there God
That's what I saw....but the respect is there.
@@yummyyum36719 Maybe its just "on camera politeness" !
David is my favorite guitarist but he wouldn't be anywhere without Waters songs
When I saw the title of this video I thought this would be some new footage and I really looked forward to see these two men greeting each other with some kind of "warmth", if it's even possible in this case.
I don't know how they're getting along nowadays or if they are in connection with each other at all, but Dave and Roger reminded me of Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost, somehow. I truly wish my best to both of them and I am forever grateful for their life-changing music.
There will never be a Pink Floyd again! Richard is gone!
The loss of Pink was a game changer, but when Roger fell out with Floyd and the others they were done..............and now Roger Waters is a footnote, and a running joke.
Remember when they were young...they shined like the sun
No animosity. Good peoples. Great music. Thank you, Pink Floyd!
Spoke to soon …😂
Those two need to tear down the wall between them and become friends again, you can just feel the tension between them
no they don`t ,
they need to get back together the world needs them because can you imagine the music coming out from them .
Never gonna happen.
It’s weird.. them meeting in the middle alley of a film studio is giving me strong “wish you were here” cover vibes.. especially given their relationship and rogers “fiery” persona
2 of the greatest musicians of all time
2 absolute legends. Genius level brilliance. Thank you, Sir Gilmour and Sir Waters. Thank you Indeed.
Roger said in a canadian show that he is and Was always à friend of David.....even if they don't work together.......

"Underrated?" Are you 'special needs?' They are two of the greatest and most respected musicians that will ever live.

For a long time I was, as well. But if you read Mark Blake's book about the band you will have your answer. It is undeniably the latter. Had they been best friends, it wouldn't have worked.
As a friend of mine put it, "David and Roger were perfect together. The only problem was that they hated each other."

Can sense tension in the air like their meeting up was forced.
As soon as they go their own ways I almost cried like Chandler Bing: "I just don´t see why those two can´t work things out" :(
So nice to that meeting, life is too short. Love ❤️ and peace Roger, Dave, Richard and Nick. ☮️☮️
They didn't do the "wish you were here" handshake.
With Roger's hair on fire, of course.

Now that's funny!
That’s how they usually shake hands.
From what I see as a fanboy, David has really much warmness for me and he seems to be a happy individual
who carried on with his life. While Roger comes across as restless and driven always critizing and angry. He would know why. Cheers.
Met my old bandmate near the studio
The sun was shining though I grieved
I stole behind him in the parking lot
And I touched him on the sleeve
Couldn't see each others' face at first
But then our eyes flew open wide
He went to hug me, to expel the curse
And we laughed but on th' inside
We drank a toast to innocence
We drank a toast to now
And tried to reach beyond the emptiness
But neither one knew how
Said he was eager with his brand new band
Who kept his creative levels high
He would've liked to say he loved them more
But he didn't like to lie
I said the years had been a friend to him
And that his eyes were still as blue
But in those eyes, I wasn't sure if I
Saw doubt or gratitude
He said he saw me in the record stores
And that I must be doing well
I said, "The newer stuff was heavenly
But I'd rather Run Like Hell"
We drank a toast to innocence
We drank a toast to now
And tried to reach beyond the emptiness
But neither one knew how
We drank a toast to innocence
We drank a toast to TIME
We've ticked away the moments that make up
Another auld lang syne
TIME was passing, and our tongues were tired
And running out of things to say
He gave a kiss to my sweet Polly girl
And I watched him walk away
Just for a moment, I saw Abbey Road
And felt the old familiar pain
And as we turned to make our way back home
The sun turned into rain
Good heavens ... Dan Fogelberg has risen from the grave! .... and, btw, very good job!

Deaner they had their days respect them n let them move on
just very well put, I would say...
But that anger/energy is awesome in roger’s songs
They are each only concerned with selling their own music and don't want the other to be to the detriment of that.
David has been the one standing in the way of Floyd reforming since live 8. Even then it was Roger who picked up the phone. I prefer them apart anyway, but it's not down to Roger that they remain so.
Sad to see.
Tomorrow could be anyone’s last day.
Make peace. Life is a gift that be gone in a millisecond.
