    Nicely done. This is definitely one of Bonham's best songs and I remember bringing it to my drum teacher way back in the 80's (while learning Steely Dan). He listened to the record (vinyl) and occasionally he would go "oh...mm...oh ok..." Then I practiced my 6/8 jazz beat.
    Regarding the Hi-hat. It sounds like to me he keeps tempo with a closed hi-hat foot accent (which varies and technically might be syncopated by starting on 2). He might be slamming it closed with his foot, or with his foot and a stick accent too. It also sounds like he slams the hi-hat shut on the 1/8 note just before most of the snare fill/accents (pssck-thwat). I'll be checking out your other vids. Thanks.

    Hi. I work with a woman who's bf/husband has done many things and was told he bought an electronic kit a few years ago for much more than a high end Ludwig kit. She said (Sheri Deming Eliot Johnson (ELLIOTT) he bought large pads, but a system that built up muscle making acoustic playing really easy. It was not easy to play like a Roland system and while a teen/20's? played drums with his lawyer friend Libby Fulgione, John McCarthy and another friend John and some times Frankie Pelligrino. Anyway. When he got behind an acoustic kit, he was very good, fast and I was blown away as I never heard the electronic set that much. But last night he was laughing as he acts like you do and when I asked why he was laughing. He said he couldn't believe how easiest it was to play, loved your teaching style and was on the floor with laughter when you where acting like a nut as he got it. He loved it and wants to meet with you to see what you two can do about the Bonham tapes (if they exist), as he worked for A&R, A&R Soundtracks/Music Supervision, Composer, Beta tester, (one of few owners Giga Stidio for Mac before Tascam sold (also certified 420 Medical Grower),Chemist, Electrical Engineer, Several IT CERTS. And grow light beta tester and building his own LED system. He said Cree was going to make LEDS work (CREE PUT OUT a light reference design that beat HPS last month or so. Not sure how he knows things before everyone else, but does. But said LEDS will be everywhere soon. Anyway. Can you do a basic as well as a Ludwig kit you can grow to start with a John Bonham kit? He showed me some songs when played differently, can also sound like rings who also he worships as many think what Ringo did was easy. It is not. So he says. I know he would appreciate and I would love to be the one to tell him "which" kit to buy. 😁. He wants to move to Maine. It is beautiful but said even here (Los Angeles). Plus he said some in his family are t doing to well and wants to get back. A.S.A.P. O.T. fwiw. He also said that most medical 420 items have BLACK/DARK GRAY ASH. He says it's not flushed. His is "Sulfur White", strong and cured from two weeks to 1-2 months. Says everyone else sells to dispensary way to early so. He hope to be a big fish in Maine. (Medical), as he wants to research a cure for his sister. CIDP/Neuropathy. I've seen him crest more CBDs by leaving a plant in longer. I have witnessed early harvested sativa's which made you speedy (wake up. Better than Adoral (again told). Sorry. Just wanted to say how cool he is as he's picky with friends. Knows Ringos Starrs manager as they might be doing something. Anyway. His (gf/wife), partner said he would love to meet with you and hope you can do a basic Bonham drum purchase and tuning. Thanks. PS. You are funny and he got you like now one I've ever seen before. So great job. I was told he laughed and laughed when he saw how simple you made it as well as got your teaching style. His name is Frankii Elliott. He has two websites he's working on. But they should be up soon. The reason I brought up Maine was that he can get a home/farm for. Fraction of Los Angeles), but more importantly he wants to build a studio with real drums and a studio on the beach. Called. Wells Beach. Thanks again.

    Great video.IMHO, what sets this groove apart is the feel. He achieves this with the hi-hats. He plays a heavy stick a couple inches down the stick on the edge of the hat cymbals, and in the "whaddaya, whaddaya think I saw..." Sections, each time on beat 5, he lays back slightly on the time and lifts his hi-hat foot slightly to give that beat a thicker sound. Check it out.

    I hear an extra bass drum kick in the intro just before the 1 with crash:
    ta-ta-ta-bang-bong... pup-PSH!!
    I suppose that makes it a 4-and. It's even quieter that the "echo" kicks in Kashmir but you can hear it wearing headphones.

    Terry don't forget the fill that occurs at the very end of the song as it fades out! Bonhams starts the fill on the 1& , and continues the fill through that occurring bar and then the following one. So it is ALMOST a two bar fill, but it is really cool how it's notated. I always ad lib that last fill cause it's so fucking beefy and i never tried to genuinely piece it together. Great lesson man! @bonzoleum

    Great video as always, but you've missed the hi-hat/cymbal thing Bonzo did on the "5" count during the main riff. Everyone else's video misses it too but I thought you'd get it. I can't figure out what how he does it!

    The long snare drum roll is definitely not an open double but a very tight closed single stroke roll. It does take some finesse and stick control to to play it, but I would bet dollars to donuts that it is a single stroke roll.
    Love your videos!!!

    • @bonzoleum
      @bonzoleum  8 років тому +1

      Vince Trujillo I always assumed it was, as Bonham had that very controlled single stroke roll down pat as heard all over the 69-70 stuff), but if you listen very, very closely, you can hear (or at least I've determined I can) the hand to hand pressure 'two strokes at a time' often makes in a roll. I of course could be mistaken, but if you get a chance, listen very closely to it ten or so times in a row, and see if you hear the 'doubles left right 2 bounce'.

    • @cheezruff
      @cheezruff 6 років тому +1

      I hear a pressed/closed roll version derived from/related to a double stroke 32nd, which is sorta like what you're saying Terry, just too closed to sound like an open double.

    Closed circuit theory sounds plausible, dude, but remember, someone would have had to press RECORD. If they were just using the system to see/communicate with each other, no need to record unless someone was intent on preserving it for posterity. I think *something* from the truck would have leaked by now if that was the case. Just my two cents. Love ya, Billy

    Dude your hilarious! But you're ear for this particular tune is a little off. I know you posted this three years ago but I'd like to tellya to listen closer to some of the lead out of the break fills. You and kick it like Bonham are close but not quite there. There are some bass drum notes and hi hat notes that fill in the space from the hand patterns. Watch his solo from the song remains the same. It's kind of like reverse double kick drum stuff with left foot leading. I'll post a video soon to explain what I mean. Hope to hear from you on this.

    Man, I hear Bonzo playing a lot more below the equator than I'm seeing in this video. The bass drum stuff Bonham is doing (and omitting, withholding BRILLIANTLY) is a MAGISTERIAL DISASTER during the verses, a big sloppy mess that holds together. I think we're asking a lot for a note-for-note recital of what he does on Led Zeppelin IV. That said, man I'm glad I stumbled this. #WhoopieCats4Eva
