Synchronized between the vocals and the drums. Analogous to a Counterpoint in orchestral music. I think I hear that. Incredible Rythm!! John Bonham cannot be duplicated in my opinion. You gotta listen to all of Zeppelin drummer Bonham's work. It is incredible!

Many years back a young producer was working with Page on the audio from a live concert that was "How The West Was Won". He mentioned to Page he was going to 'fix' a missed beat by Bonham. Page: "If he missed a beat, he did it on purpose! Don't fix anything!"

Up until the 1977 Zeppelin tour , concert tickets were tops.$8.50 I saw 20 concerts including Queen, Bowie, Yes, Kiss for $8.50 Zeppelin was $20.00 and it was mail in only. I dont remember where , but you sent your money in hope of having tickets sent back. An envelope came back with our money. Sold out. 6 night's June . 1977 sold out.
We weren't happy. Month or 2 went by and we werent going.
It was the last 2 weeks of high school and a kid in a grade under me asked me what night i was going. I told him i ŵasnt. Next day this kid walked up to me and told me his father worked for Atlantic records and handed me an envelope with 4 tickets.
    4 tickets ..9th row. June 10th 1977

  • @septictopix4797
    @septictopix4797 Рік тому +2

Anybody can have decent chops. Practice your rudiments and you're good.... What Bonzo had was the feel, the sense to give the song exactly what it needed and nothing more. A great drummer knows his/her role in the music. Take Ringo for example. He is the first to admit he has basically no technical skill, yet his parts are legendary because he could feel the music and the vibe from the others in the band and gave just what the songs needed, and nothing more. If you're a drummer in a band where the singer is telling you what to play, find another band. Or start your own :)

Zep has many songs that don't get air time because radio stations have their set playlist and burn out Stairway, Rock and Roll, Kashmir, and a few more of their hits. When I see Jimmy Page play guitar it seems like it just 'plays' itself and he just holds it down and guides it, rather like a chainsaw.
The drums on MMH sounds like a similar thing for Bonham too - like the irresistible groove is already playing, and he's making little choices as to how it will go along.

It's on 52 minutes long, but Carl Palmer does at least 2 sick and long drum solos like i've never seen before, with the exception of ELP live at the California Jam, 1974. That performance became the double album Welcome Back My Friends to the Show that Never Ends. The California Jam concert is recorded on live video and is absolutely a mind blowing masterpiece!

Also, Spot On mate about this song not being all that popular. Bonham's Bone Crushing beat, & fills - to me - are the highlights of this unusual track! Pretty sure Misty Mountain Hop is on side B! Lastly, some of Plant's vocals can be quite irritating because of that Nyah, Nyah, NyahNyahNyah! Childish playground mocking melody.

John Bonham, knew his music he was a Connoisseur, big bands from different airs from early 1900s 1920s 30s and 40s and 50s he incorporated all kinds of sounds from his taste of music. For example he took an intro from little Richard keep a knocking and use it for the intro of rock ‘n’ roll. Young drummers should take his approach and broaden their library of music.

This album was recorded at a manor house with the name of Hedley Grange. The drums were set up in the hall and the microphones were draped over the upper floor hand rails so the sound was recorded from above. John was, according to an interview with Jimmy Page using a new kit. In the same interview he said Johns' technique and sound was down to his wrists and tuning. He also said the drums were an acoustic instrument.

I had two tickets to see the band on there 1980 tour and a friend came up to me and said some guy died today,I immediately ran down to a local department store near me and turned on the radio and my heart sank because every station was playing Zeppelin and then I heard the news,I was devastated I never got the chance to see them live and Bohnam was my idol and the moment I heard he was dead I knew it was over, those four guys were tight almost telepathic
Especially between Page and Bohnam,Sad times and as I wrote this it just hit me that in December John Lennon died as well.
Not a great start to the eighties!

The hi-hat. That occasional hard accent is closing the hi-hat with a stick on it (stick and foot down together, so the 1/8 rest with the right hand). Listen to this album for just the hi-hat. Not one single *pss, pss with the hi-hat at all, but a clinic on every other technique.

Hi Andrew, i'm brand new to your channel, i just subscribed now. Great job and reactions to Bonham. I've been listening to Zeppelin since 1973. I have a question tho. Why are drummers like Keith Moon, Carl Palmer and Jethro Tull and Alan White and Bill Bruford of Yes such great but so complex and complicated to figure out how they play like the masters they are. Listening to all of their 70's albums i can't figure out how they did what they accomplished. I'm just blown away by the talent coming from John Bonham and the other 5 i just mentioned.

Thank you Andrew for the reaction and Ed for the request. So spooky, I did a search for a drumming reaction on this exact song recently and Voila! this just appeared 😲 I do love a good Bonzo fill (ⁿᵃᵘᵍʰᵗʸ ᵍᶦᵍᵍˡᵉ) and that one just before the Outro is a real fav. That was a good point about Plant's vocals and the hair metal. LZ get a lot of flack from haters who say they copied a lot, but credit must also be given for what they created and influenced, too.

"Let's hop to it" - I see what you did there . . . . :) 3 piece groups have the freedom to take turns with breaks and fills more than any other combination. If the musicians are good - they can play the 'same' part over and over and never play it the same twice.

It's never been one of my favourite Zeppelin songs, but I listened to it differently here. I like it, of course, I don't dislike any Zeppelin songs 😅
Bonzo is really showing how groovy he can be playing straight forward. Noticing the dynamics on the hi-hat, the kick, and the snare-like a groovy machine made of wood and oiled with thick motor oil. So good! And his laid back slow fills are genius! I really love how he can move the song with his super dynamic eighth notes or whatever they are in each song. Sometimes using it to build up the tempo and the tension.

Led Zeppelin 4 is the album and a majority of it was recorded in Headley Grange, a large old some say haunted House.
So it was recorded on the Rolling Stones Mobile studio. All of which would contribute to that sound.
