He explained that "safe spaces" are incompatible with scientific inquiry, and that his own definition of *safety* (the freedom to take chances) is the exact opposite of the social justice cult's. At least, he was attempting to say so before the chairman woke up from his nap and interrupted with some prefab red/blue partisan hackery.

Mind you, if you stop to think about it, teaching people HOW to think is almost more dangerous than teaching them what to think. Teaching someone how to think is also referred to as mind control. When kids are taught WHAT to think you at least leave the door open for them to change their minds, seeing in this case you need to teach them about both sides of the argument to begin with, even if is it in a biased manner. We should just be teaching people to think.
@@minimoulah The act of thinking comes with risks. Most, if not all, revolutions came with scrutiny, whether it was Einstein or Steven Hawking. They took the risk of others believing they were crazy. This is why the freedom to think on your own is so important. Teaching people what to think robs them of their ability to think freely and can obstruct potential revolutionary ideas. Also, I would say that having a change in opinion is more likely to happen if you think for yourself rather than what another person tells you to believe.

On this issue, he is neither left or right, he is rational, logical, and right in the terms of accuracy rather than ideology. Only people with a truly horrid belief system, would demand that opposition be silenced. I believe myself to be right of center, yet I hold no ill will to those who would oppose me; I only expect that they would contest me based on the merit of mine and their argument(s). Rousseau wrote in "On the Social Contract", that political parties/ideologies could and inevitably would be hijacked by unscrupulous and self-centered individuals if principle was left untended to. As an employer who gets hundreds of applications for an opening, why would I hire an Evergreen graduate over say, Texas Tech, San Diego State or University of Massachusetts and risk getting a problem employee with a disruptive political agenda? Could I get such a person from any other school? Sure! But, I “know” about the chaos at this school. By eliminating applicants from Evergreen, I reduce the probability of a bad choice. Are your applications going to be filtered out by HR departments and recruiters? This is a very real possibility.

As a graduate and job seeker, would you want to be saddled with Evergreen on your resume or would you rather have almost any other far less controversial state college on your resume? I'd think that the answer is pretty self-evident. Run away from Evergreen … as fast as humanly possible.

4:25 “turn[ing] the tables of opression” EXACTLY CORRECT!!!!! This professor is a true role model. Thank you for standing up for what’s right. I have nothing but respect for you. Great speach too!😊
Professor, you've shown a light on why I no longer identify as a 'liberal' or a 'progressive.' These movements, despite the high rhetoric, have led to their opposites. They are repressive and regressive.
10 years ago the "left" were a lot more rational than the "right", and we'd laugh at fox news and characters like Ann Coulter then... Now it seems the Right is more rational. i totally understand why people are upset about the wage gap, and believe gays should be able to get married, but the left abandoned real issues for made up ones... I hope someday things will find a balance and go back to normal again.
Few people actually 'like' Trump. What they 'like' is that he's pure irritation to virtually every entrenched elite, and wannabe elitists, they detest. As long as he continues to fly in the face of all the status quos, as long as the economy continues to improve, and as long as the world wonders what he'll do next, rather than the US constantly wondering what the world is going to throw in our faces next, he'll be 'liked.' Personally, I wouldn't want to spend more than a half-hour with him, which is about 30 minutes longer than what I'd want to spend in the same room with Hillary or Obama.
I'd be careful with the word 'normal.' I think Fox and characters like Coulter performed a necessary function of providing a counter-force trying to pull the political discourse and public policy back to a more rational and pragmatic center. Our public discourse is now little more than adolescent middle-school bullying fueled by magical thinking and omnipotence fueled largely by the left. I believe much of the conservative energy is simply an attempt to bring things back to the center. Calling conservatives racists, Nazis, etc, is the left's attempt to keep the pendulum to the left, far left, but more and more folks are seeing the left's lack of fresh ideas and an increasing reliance on worn out progressive ideas from over five decades ago.
I know, it's very different now. It's like the left at first was one a good path and then before the cliff ends and they accomplished their goals, they just sped up and ran off the edge of the cliff because "YOLO!". I mean... I'm sure that's not what happened, but it sure looks like it sometimes.
This was amazing, Dr. Weinstein. Thank you very much for doing this. I will say...I felt like the Chairman was more concerned about turning this into political points, though. I wish he would put aside party politics to realize this issue transcends the left and right partisan divide and isn't just about anti-Trump/ anti-Republican sentiment on college campuses.
but it is though, these far left sjw are getting their ideas from the same source. the same people who implemented in NY that there are 30+ gender identities, the same people who censor speeches on Berkley. So yes it was and alway will be about politics.
+adoboeater415 - It's definitely true what you're saying, and I agree. Jordan is correct that it's partisan bullshit. [edit: I'm definitely not against poking SJWs, including my own comment on the people who disliked this awesome video. They are ridiculous and destructive.] But I think the reason I cringed a little when Jordan asked Weinstein his Trump questions and interrupted the points he was trying to make, is because Weinstein is such a devastating critic of what he calls the ascendant orthodoxy of the left largely because he is a part of the left himself. It would be far more effective and useful just to let him speak in this particular moment, instead of taking the opportunity to score partisan points, poke the SJWs, and wave the Trump flag. That's red meat for his team, but it's never going to change anyone's mind. On an unrelated note, Adobo seasoning is awesome, and I put it on pretty much everything.

@Doug Miles He constantly speaks out against the far left and their PC, inter-sectional victim-hood narratives. And was actually teaching a 16 credit class about how to create a society without these things and without tribalism right when the Evergreen protests started. You sir have shown your ignorance.
Great job on the editing in of clips and congrats to Dr. Weinstein for having the fortitude to relive this painful and bizarre experience in front of the House of Reps. The clips recounting the events help to anchor Dr. Weinstein's comments and give context. Those images, like the footage of George Bridges, have become iconic and indelible in their own way.
I know...I'm a foreigner living in the U.S., sometimes I wish the Americans would stop and listen to outsiders more. Americans: please wake up and throw up that PC stuff. All this Utube and Twitter censorship and Go0gle takeover is an ominous sign. The radical left are taking over the internet and you know how much your life is already dependent. You have to do something about it. Report problems and appeal to the courts- tell them it has to stop. America used to be such a free country - that's why it attracted to students like me and many other ethnic groups to come. If it was so bad -why do people keep coming? God has blessed this country. People need to stop the humanist beliefs and turn back to God. Pray for your country! I don't love Trump...but honestly compares to all the BS going on, he's your only ticket out. I would vote him.
More accurate would be comparison to left authoritarian states like Soviet Union for that instance and Bolshevism before. They wanted "make everyone equal" too, so many milions ended up equally dead :

I think this is what got him into so much hot water at Evergreen. His opposition has/had no real response to a well thought out and insightful point of view. So their response, since they couldn't justify their statements on an intellectual level, was to simply defame him. It is really sad. As Dr. Weinstein points out, many of the initial premises of some of these movements are probably good, but their understanding of how to attain those goals is entirely misguided and in many cases criminal. How many cases in history do we have groups (small and large) think they can create some social utopia through force? This malignant form of the left is trying to do just that.
mgm153 I'd be careful with endorsing the initial premises of these movements as 'good'. Though equality of outcomes sounds compassionate the imposition of it requires largescale violations of individuals' fundamental rights.
I can’t imagine how I’d react to seeing this stuff happen in person. I love debating and coming to a solution, these people just don’t debate anymore. You have to be able to exchange ideas without violence. It’s crazy

*Safe space 1.0* When I was in primary / elementary school our safe space was ‘circle time’. Every Friday our class would sit in a circle and take turns speaking about our week, we were safe to say anything without fear of getting in trouble. The weeks upsets and arguments were settled, apologies made, bully’s and bullied became friends. It was so effective that we’d sometimes have a mid week emergency circle time when the teacher knew there was friction between students. *Safe space 2.0* In university a safe space is the opposite, a place where fear off offending leads to no dialogue and no solutions. *Safe space 3.0* All tongues have been removed.

Where I study in Europe, if some spoiled students pulled this kind of shit they would be terminated in a week and sent home. America is one of the few places where this type of blatant disregard for authority, rules, respect and common sense is possible.
@@Claire-tn4xp I currently study in Hungary, have multiple friends that study in Germany, Poland, Spain, France, Austria and Italy and they all say the same. My generalization of Europe was made for the sake of simplifying my point, I am aware that the same wouldn't stand in every university, but in general I would say my statement is accurate.
@@Claire-tn4xp There was a case here in Hungary a year ago where a bunch of foreign students were refusing to comply with quarantine rules inside and outside of University premises, their student status was terminated and they were deported in a matter of 2-3 weeks, but take this with a grain of salt as Hungary is a very conservative country which makes the above result much more likely to occur here than in other more liberal countries like Germany. Also, Universities in general are dominated by liberals as compared to conservatives (just like the USA), with the clear difference being the amount of shit that they are willing to take from students here, they are pretty strict when it comes to regulations.
@@Claire-tn4xp As a last point, I would also add that universities in Europe don't seem to be so concerned with political matters as much as universities in the USA do. As a matter of fact I would go even as far as to say that they prefer to avoid them, I've seen it happen multiple times here.

You're GOING to run into professors who want you to write papers with views they agree with....even if you don't. They will mark/grade them accordingly. You'll have to deal with people who believe their's is the only possible opinion or way of thinking and will be "offended" if you don't share their views. Books are outrageously expensive and frankly you'll be required to take courses that have NOTHING what so ever to do with what you want to study. You'll hear about "enrichment" courses....yeah, they aren't free either and the only ones getting "enriched" $$$ is the school. Amen...we would all be seeking truth, not following pre- packaged ideologies .
Ah the quote of the video, I knew someone would post it.
@@skeletor4487 No it doesnt. I think therefor I am. We dont need to teach children how to behave, it was encoded in us. This man is what you would typically ascribe to being on the left in terms of a political spectrum, normally. That the disagreement I may have with others is centered around a core value or principle that myself and my debater have a varying opinion on. Rousseau wrote in "On the Social Contract", that political parties/ideologies could and inevitably would be hijacked by unscrupulous and self-centered individuals if principle was left untended to. Based on the world I see around me, principle has not just been left untended to; it has been all but abandoned. How can one expect to uphold values without principle as a foundation?

If you listen to his supporters they were well spoken, level headed students. If you listened to the opposers they weren't saying anything substantial in presenting their argument. Sad that education is the root of the problem. A professor trying to become an activist needs to become a better orator, and opposers of the professor needed to not jump the gun and assume he was a racist.

It would be a very practical decision.
Evergreen alumni should be worried about the national reputation your alma mater now has that can harm your chances for employment. Are your applications going to be filtered out by HR departments and recruiters? This is a very real possibility.
No mate! It's a dead set certainty! If that University was listed in someone's CV or any other like it, there is zero chance that person would get an interview let alone a job. Besides who's kidding who here.. these kids aren't interested in working.. that's for mugs... they want Communist rule so they can sit back on their fat asses and get paid.. the ones who loved Communist Russia were the ones who did the least..
Alan, I'd also suggest that any student attending Evergreen who didn't ascribe to this nonsense, should immediately transfer to a more sane college, pretty much for exactly the same reasons you describe. As a graduate and job seeker, would you want to be saddled with Evergreen on your resume or would you rather have almost any other far less controversial state college on your resume? I'd think that the answer is pretty self-evident. Run away from Evergreen … as fast as humanly possible.
reduces thier value 200%
Even if the person who went to the school is qualified on paper, do you really want them working with your team? Does your team really want to work with them?
Personally I would never ever hire any student of this school for the last decade and probably into another decade.
If they were to move to another area in the country they may see difficulty finding employment. Unfortunately, Most companies on the west coast are starting to agree with these students. At least for now.

That's the definition of "the paper is worth more than the degree"
Lmao. The acceptance % basically means they'll accept anyone, and that's the #1 indicator of a failing college.
There's a reason why Harvard accepts only 5.6% of applicants, and Evergreen accepts 97.9%.
Actually, employers don't differentiate between colleges when screening applicants. If they have a bachelors it's the same across the board. Of course a degree from an Ivy League school would make a difference. I think. I had a better chance at growing horns and a tail vs getting accepted at an IL school.

Honestly i dont like Trump, I think he is just an OK president, but you bet your ass ill vote for him in the next election.

@Doug Miles He constantly speaks out against the far left and their PC, inter-sectional victim-hood narratives. And was actually teaching a 16 credit class about how to create a society without these things and without tribalism right when the Evergreen protests started. You sir have shown your ignorance.
@Doug Miles ua-cam.com/video/Knmy7RttHx4/v-deo.html Hear it from the man himself at 1:24:50
@Doug Miles how many months have you been pregnant? your drivel is typical of a drunk pregnant woman approximately 8.5 months along
@@travisadams6279 you are very fat and stupid, did you take classes to be that stupid or are you just pregnant?
His voice is reason. If it sounds nice - welcome to the sound of reason
Guessing here, but i would believe, that this was how Nazi Germany emerged... please be careful, and deal with this swiftly, best wishes from Denmark.
+Poxtor Thank you. I, for one, appreciate it. I hope it's stopped somehow. Stay safe in Denmark.
The book burnings have begun...
More accurate would be comparison to left authoritarian states like Soviet Union for that instance and Bolshevism before. They wanted "make everyone equal" too, so many milions ended up equally dead :
Poxtor You’re so right! It’s scary
He’s got a podcast: Darkhorse Podcast
I love Listening to a guy on Dark horse! Very informative with what is happening with the handling the virus!

It's awful
the future of education. podcast.
A Goldmine!-also Lex Fridman's podcasts-both of these represent the finest content of UA-cam I have so far discovered-have to admit that a lot of it goes over my head but the bits I can pick up are incredibly enriching and are highly valued additions to my store of knowledge.
Dr. Weinstein level of preparation for every word is off the charts. I bet he got a lot of practice ;)
Are you familiar with his wife? She dwarfs him intellectually and, I'm sure, doesn't let him get away with half truths and poorly argued statements.
I can’t imagine how I’d react to seeing this stuff happen in person. I love debating and coming to a solution, these people just don’t debate anymore. You have to be able to exchange ideas without violence. It’s crazy
N L >>> if you do not agree ...they will physically violate you. What is to happen when all the logical hard workers of this country are gone. These individuals will not thrive or survive.
They're bullies. and some are racist. Truly remarkable and ironic
Lord Of The Flies comes to mind when thinking about these unfortunate indoctrinated students.
That was a great book and movie. Not a great real life event.
Dick Fitswell great book mediocre movie. Plus the entire book was basically warning against this so your entire point is invalid. I mean the entire tone was mob rule is bad. Once civility is gone everything goes downhill.
The scary part of that is that, according to Yuri Besmenov, these 'useful idiots' can't be deprogrammed. "There is no amount of facts or evidence that will convince them that white is white, and black is black," he said.
@@IcarusLP the movie was as mediocre as your breeding fetish
And how did Lord of the Flies end? The arrival of an adult causing the murderous kids to bawl and cry, returning to what they are -> children.
Love Bret!!!! You’re an outstanding human being and a leader of what’s right!!!
Keep up the good work, Bret. Post as often as you can. Record every thought you have. We love you and we're waiting for more.
Brilliant man. And to think, none of us would have come across him if not for the evergreen cult.
No, he's not. Look into his past and you'll quickly see that he helped stoke the fires that burned him. He was eaten by his own, and deservedly so. I do give him credit for appearing before congress, however.
And his wife too. She's equally brilliant.
flesh it out man, whats his past and where can i find out about it. link me broseph
Jonathan Bostwick,
This is a good piece on him: ua-cam.com/video/9ys2ihv_wSs/v-deo.html
There are a bunch of articles and interviews with Bret, too, and I encourage you to check them out. He's an SJW and fell into his own trap, but at least he's sounding the alarm.
*Safe space 1.0*
When I was in primary / elementary school our safe space was ‘circle time’.
*Safe space 2.0*
In university a safe space is the opposite, a place where fear off offending leads to no dialogue and no solutions.
*Safe space 3.0*
All tongues have been removed.
Well said Dr. Weinstein. Third time I’ve watched this. It’s nice to hear someone talk about these issues in a concise and thoughtful manner.
Great job, Bret! We're with you!
You could be an important piece to the puzzle in saving this nation's people. Thank you for your courage.
All state and federal dollars sohuld be pulled from Evergreen College.
Lawney Malbrough should but when has blacks like these and blm ever been held accountability for their clearly racist and violent actions
Lawney Malbrough I think that happened months ago
They've already had over 24 million cut from their funding.
And now, their diplomas are worth nothing.
Their debt receipts? I’m pretty sure it didn’t mean anything anyway
They demanded grades .. didn't want to work for grades just wanted them handed to them as well as their diploma.
As good as a Penn State graduate, I hope. And the Penn state graduates didn't do anything wrong other than go to a college with an infamous child rapist.
Where I study in Europe, if some spoiled students pulled this kind of shit they would be terminated in a week and sent home. America is one of the few places where this type of blatant disregard for authority, rules, respect and common sense is possible.
Where do you study? Europe is a continent made up of many different countries and cultures.
@@PellosMaxhthc I'm glad to hear it wouldn't be tolerated
What a brilliant man, I wish he was my professor
A Great Man OF Courage! I’m sure his wife is wonderful too. God bless you both!
Watch The Dark Horse podcast and find out.
Thank you Paul Lester, I found it.
"...there is an ascendant orthodoxy on the left that is very troubling..."
100%
Absolutely! This situation is even beyond troubling; it is conspiratorial !
Ya think, Bet?
Your Joe Rogan interview popped up on my TV thanks to the UA-cam app playing random videos. Very interesting. Keep fighting the good fight Dr Weinstein. The majority of people support you.
