  • In todays video I'll be explaining everything you need to know about PON for beginners! It is a super easy substrate to work with and I find that my plants love PON. About half of my plant collection is soil free at this moment and I'm really loving it. PON like anything requires some maintenance but I find that it's maintenance I can deal with. At the end of the video I share an update on some of my plants in PON.

    🤔 Very beautiful hostess. Clearly knowledgeable and passionate about your hobby.
    In the long run it’s better for a multitude of ways to make your own Pon. I utilize Calcined Clay and “ Special Kitty “ natural clay cat litter in my home made Pon. The two clays give a number of nutrients and have a excellent water holding and wicking capacity.
    I wish you success with your UA-cam endeavors and your hobby. ✊🏽✊🏿✊🏾

    Because of you, I have a better understanding with pons. I purchase a bag and when I first used it plant failure. I watched an old video and you encouraged me to try again. You said when transferring your plant from soil first let it be in water for awhile and then put it in pons

    Anyone reading this. PON is a good substrate, but you must be careful with it. I purchased my first Thai Constellation and put it in PON. The roots went bonkers, so I decided to repot it in cocopeat. That was a big mistake as my plant rotted and died in a week. If you put your Thai in PON leave it there. PON makes the roots airy and light and the cocopeat was too heavy. I purchased another Thai and used a substrate that is chunky with biochar, compost, leca, cococoir and chunky perlite. Be mindful of what you are doing. Nice vid by the way! I don't rinse my PON because I feel I am rinsing away the fertilizer but that is just me.

    • @djhiggins4431
      @djhiggins4431 7 місяців тому

      Rinse the pon, the fertilizers are infused you can't rinse it away, like lecca pon can create water roots on your plants which differ from traditional roots. If you want to switch from pon to soil of any kind go to a stratum or pearlite and then to a chunky soiless mix otherwise you'll kill the plant. However pon is going to likely be best for most house plants. Not all so do research. Thai cons are a great pon candidate due to their susceptibility to root rot but transferring from pon to soil is not advisable

    You've explained this all so good! I've just made my own for the first time fingers crossed it works. Zeolites is used for eco-friendly traction control instead of sidewalk salts same for the lava stone. Pumice however in my area and on Amazon is bonkers🤑 so I subbed for perlite. I figure the weight of the rest will keep it all from rising up. I've sub'd and now going to binge watch your content 😁👍🏻

    Hello, I'm new to Pon. I transferred all my plants to Pon last week, but without using self watering pot. Can you please let me know how often I need to water my plants? Because it's hard to know when I need to water it. Also, I mixed Pon with moss for my plants. Thanks a lot!

    • @alexislynn6095

    • @PlantsNTings
      @PlantsNTings  7 місяців тому

      Hi. Are you using pots with drainage? If so you’d water them the same as when they were in dirt. Pon does tend to hold a bit more water for a bit longer tho..if your plants are in pots without drainage then I’d just water when you no longer see water sitting at the bottom of the pot. Also I do not have experience mixing straight pon with moss. I’ve mixed the 2 with other substrates but not just those 2 alone so I can’t speak on whether that’s a good option or not. Sorry.

    Forgive me if you answered this! But I don't think you did, I listened in segments while at work so I might have missed it😅 So I've not really heard anyone mention anything about how they add extra nutrients to the slow release fertilized pon, but is that a thing? Ive been thinking about adding my flora series at diluted amounts to one of my waterings a month... I already use superthrive, Diamond Nectar and CalMag (calmag only for the first 2 week transition). What do you think?

    • @PlantsNTings
      @PlantsNTings  11 місяців тому +1

      I was still adding fertilizer and i didn’t have any issues. so I’d say deff with caution you can but like you said a diluted amount. You can also jus test it out on a plant or 2 to be sure it’s ok.

    I like you video, you sound funny and sympathetic, unfortunately the informations you gave about adding fertilizer are seriously misleading and I'll explain you why. There is a very thorough video on the channel of a Canadian soil scientist and she points out that you one want to use PON than absolutely have to use ONLY inorganic fertilizer since organic fertilizers will turn the whole thing into a toxic mix for your plant. Search it and listen carefully.
