I started using Lechuza pon almost 2 years ago with my Calathea. I bought Lechuza’s self watering pots. The Calathea thrived and so I went down the rabbit hole! I have most of my plants in pon. Syngomium, Alocasia, Hoya, asparagus fern, Philodendron, string of hearts, Monstera. I use self watering pots that I put together myself using nursery or orchid pots and cache pot and also Lechuza’s pots. I want to convert my 4 foot Alocasia regal shield and my giant philodendron burle marx to pon but alas, I am waiting for a restock on Lechuza website. I use Dyna gro grow or foliage pro to fertilize my pon plants after 6 months. Almost most of my plants were easy to convert to pon. I also have plants in just pumice which are doing well. I got the idea from The Swedish Plant Guys on UA-cam.
How do you find the transition period for calatheas and ferns? I’m nervous to convert my calathea as they are sensitive to anything done to their roots!
Finally a video of aroids in pon!! Transferred my P. Splendid and Gigas in pon last month and they’ve grown so well into their pots! Loving the soil-less life! Thank you for posting this!!
1st, loving your skin! It’s glowing from inside out. ✨ 2nd, wasn’t able to be on the live chat!!! 😩 #replay 3rd, cool on the updates on your converted plants to pons. Will try it out soon, thanks for sharing the tips on it coz I am an overwater’Er!!! Thank you. ♥️
Thanks so much for all this info! I thought rooting in pon should work just as well as perlite or leca, but couldn't find any information on it. I did it very hesitantly anyway just a couple days ago, so I'm glad to finally hear something about it and feel more confident about my decision.
Thank you so much for the info you provide in this video! I really would like to transfer my plants in soil into Lechuza pon and I have recently purchased a bag to try it out. I would like to reuse my ceramic pots with drainage holes as the water container as you have done for your Anthurium in your IKEA planter. How did you seal up your IKEA planted drainage hole for your Anthurium? I would like to reuse my ceramic for the water reservoir but have no idea how to plug up the drainage hole and wondered if there is any sealing tape or something that you use or are aware of that you could recommend. Thank you! 🪴
You are so adorable! I was looking for information on using self-watering pots for hoyas and came across your video. I didn't know about lechuza pon until this video. I'm currently using self-watering pots with soil and some in leca (wicked and non-wicked) and I have yet to find a true substrate that would make my plants thrive. I wanted to convert all my plants to leca to avoid the annoying gnats that gravitate to moist soil. I found out however, that some plants survive in leca but do not really thrive. Now you got me curious about lechuza pon! Thank you for the video!
Hey Cyril I have a few questions obviously about lechuza pon. So I have plants in the pon I watered and let the dust drain off. I don't have any of them in self watering pots. They are in gardening pots some are in leca pots. Some are on deep trays some are sitting in bottles and containers. So here is my question do I leave an amount of water in these things, or do I water over sink and then just let them dry for a few days. I know with leca that I left water in the bottom because they dry very fast. But I am very new to pon .
Thank you for this video and information. I am a new plant mom and am putting some of my plants in pon and self-watering pots with wicks. I have a few questions: I'm guessing you have to wash the pon every once in a while because fungus or green stuff will grow in it? How often do you wash your pon? How often do you change the water reservoir in the self-watering pots? And, do you think a burle marx philodendron will do well in pon? Thank you!
Yes after filming I realized the converting part wasn’t as comprehensive as I intended it to be. I’ll film a separate video about converting soon! Thanks for the suggestion
This video is so informative! For your wicking system that just has a single wick, do you lay the wick horizontally at the bottom of the pot, or vertically so it comes up nearly to the surface of the substrate?
@@CyrilCybernated Thank you so much for responding! Could I ask for your hoyas that like to dry out, do you let the resevoir run dry and wait a couple of days before you refill, or do you always keep some water in the resevoir?
My philodendron seems not so much into pon. Anthuriums give instant effect of growth, they like it so much. Can you post one with only Philodendron plants in Lechuza pon? Thanks .
Welcome! Yes it has slow release fertilizer incorporated. You can top it up. I usually water my plants with diluted fertilizer during the growing season so I find myself putting some of that same solution in the reservoir too
Welcome! Yes. You have to power wash the roots. The left over soil caused some issues not immediately but usually happens in 3-6 months probably caused by the changes in season
when you first transfer to Pon , it mentions to water like usual. so do you do that for a while then just let the Lechuza pot do its thing or do you generally transfer and just fill the resevoir? thank you for your video!! so helpful!
When I started from cuttings I keep them in containers with no drainage and just spray them until a reservoir is formed at the bottom. Then when they are established I maintain the reservoir. The wicking system works best for me.
How about when you buy the bigger lachuza planter it come with just enough pon for the bottom and than you fill the rest with soil. Have you tried that? Pon on the bottom of self watering planter than the rest with soil vs all pon.
Hello, I have a quick question, if I get a plant from a nursery or Lowes, do I need to removes all soil from its roots b4 I place the plant in Pon?? Thank you🌹
I have algae growing in some of my pon planters and leca too but so far they are harmless for me. Although it doesn’t look cute to have algae in pots especially the plastic self watering ones, but they are easy to clean up 🧽
I tried using pon in my boob cactus and it was okay. I guess don’t do it with a self-watering planter but pon is too fancy and I have too many succulents and cacti so I only save it for my moisture loving plants
I haven’t used pon on my african violet plant but my propagations of the leaves took off really well in pon. I think it’ll work too as long as it’s on a self-watering and wicking system
Thanks for the video! I recently tried leca but I’m not a huge fan, but I am curious about Pon if it comes back into stock. Is that a Crystallinum x Magnificum in the top left corner with the reddish leaves?

Thank you! Yes. I was not surprised these aroids loves pon so much. It’s expensive to convert all my bigger aroids though 😂
Hi, just came across your site. I am just switching over 18Ltr bag $104.00 from Amazon had to buy 2 bags. Fingers crossed.

Great video! The terrarium is very creative 👍.
I feel like that wide planter would work great for a phildendron gloriousum or another crawler

Welcome! Happy to help out sharing what I discovered recently
Thanks for sharing. Very helpful for me. By the way, I loooove your collection.
Thank you for this great video! Very helpful.🧡 I would love to try it when it becomes available. Thanks Cyril for another great video🪴
Welcome Angie! Thanks for watching! 💚

What is the difference between having a water reservoir without wick or with wick?

Can you please do a video on converting a plant from other substrates to pon?
Yes after filming I realized the converting part wasn’t as comprehensive as I intended it to be. I’ll film a separate video about converting soon! Thanks for the suggestion
Thanks for all that info 🙌🏼
Can you recommend any larger self watering pots or a DIY set up? I need something that is at least 7 inches in diameter and doesn't cost a fortune.
This video is so informative! For your wicking system that just has a single wick, do you lay the wick horizontally at the bottom of the pot, or vertically so it comes up nearly to the surface of the substrate?
Thank you! I try to keep it in a U shape and it has to rest at the bottom and not be on top.

My Micans and Birkin really loves it
Thanks for sharing your experience. Pon has some fertilizer in it, correct. Does it have to be refreshed or add nutrients after a period of time?
Welcome! Yes it has slow release fertilizer incorporated. You can top it up. I usually water my plants with diluted fertilizer during the growing season so I find myself putting some of that same solution in the reservoir too
Thank you for the video! I have been experimenting with Pon. Are you removing all of the soil before planting in Pon?
Welcome! Yes. You have to power wash the roots. The left over soil caused some issues not immediately but usually happens in 3-6 months probably caused by the changes in season
HI , HOW DO DEAL WITH FERTILIZING THEM AND THE CONFUSING ph, I AM VERY CONFUSED AND OVERWHELMED WITH ALL THE CARE THEY NEED,THANKS
How many oz are those square clear cups?? Can you share a link for good clear vessels pleasee

How did you get rid of thrips while in pon
Can you put zz, spider plant pothos, and cactus in Pon? Shelia
Yes you can 🙂
Hi how often did you water for the first weeks? I noticed it dries out faster since I am watering the normal way(not using the reservoir yet)
I always use a reservoir and rarely use pon like soil.
After moving your hoyas to pon with a self watering pot, do you water from the top or from the water reservoir?
I do both. I should be refilling the reservoir without top watering but the past few months I’ve been getting away (and lazy) with top watering 😬😬😬
Have you had any issues with algae growth in leca or pon?
I have algae growing in some of my pon planters and leca too but so far they are harmless for me. Although it doesn’t look cute to have algae in pots especially the plastic self watering ones, but they are easy to clean up 🧽
Really informative and I love your honesty. I’m going to try it out with propagations, I never thought of that before!
Thanks Gretch! Yes. A friend just told me she props her propagations directly in pon and they take off as fast as propagating in perlite.
I've seen people using regular pot with draining hole and not use a water reservoir. If so, how should I water them?
I don't treat it like regular soil. It will dry up so fast without a reservoir. Maybe for cacti it will work?
You can't use this type of pon with succulents because they like dry soil. Correct?
I tried using pon in my boob cactus and it was okay. I guess don’t do it with a self-watering planter but pon is too fancy and I have too many succulents and cacti so I only save it for my moisture loving plants
Have not tried Pon yet but was wondering if it could be used for African Violets?
I haven’t used pon on my african violet plant but my propagations of the leaves took off really well in pon. I think it’ll work too as long as it’s on a self-watering and wicking system
Very informative!! You should be on @hgtv !
Thanks for the video! I recently tried leca but I’m not a huge fan, but I am curious about Pon if it comes back into stock. Is that a Crystallinum x Magnificum in the top left corner with the reddish leaves?
I see. It's just a regular chrystallinum as far as I know. Hope pon works for you!
@@CyrilCybernated thanks!!
Do you need to change the Pon out for fresher Pon? If so how often?
Nope. No need. But you can supplement with fertilizer after the slow release ones are consumed in about 6 months.
Where do you buy the Pon
lechuza pon website
Ill sunscribe if i can have that beautiful cat😊
How is your hoya compacta doing in pon?
Doing well actually, has peduncles now 💚
My DIY Pon is way cheaper than Lechuza. Not sure how people are spending more on their DIY. Seems odd.
