franz grabe No. They should stay together, as a collection, instead of being separated and sent around the globe. We may never see some of them again. It’s always so sad when priceless collections like this are auctioned off and broken up.
It's strange that the jeweler is touching them without gloves, that's usually a no-no, as sweat can transfer which is salty and can damage the jewels in the long run.
I can’t believe they were handling those items with no gloves on, exposing them so close to average public as if they were cheap pieces of jewelry and on top of all that auctioning them...sad, sad, sad....
Its a shame that they will auctioning them to the public, I assume? Should be donated to a museum or kept by her family. Not some private collectors with money to waste. Good piece VOA news
PLEASE not another museum! And why would it be a waste of money for private collectors? Surely they have the right to purchase anything they can enjoy?!
Sun King im agree with you but this jewels are in a private hands ( in this case in a family ) but the family i think needed some money either to keep up apperances or to pay taxes for this items and this is not the first time they did auction some of there jewels before this auction they auctioned already a few pieces from this collection and every generation is very different in believes and ofcourse FINANCIALLY in this kind of family their wealth will not be past down equality generation and generation .

Why they didn't put it in france museum as their treasure like duh... It was own by a famous and historical queen! And besides marie was once a queen a leader of france if they can take the presidents (former) items in museum why dont they just put it there its a thousand year items and it was a piece and an item that france queen wears! These are part of the heritage of France. They should stay in the country in Versailles. Maria Antoinette does not have direct descendants as her eldest daughter Marie-Therese was the only member of the family to survive did not have children .
They don't belong to the country!! The stoners and pearls were all purchased from international suppliers. They have ALWAYS belonged to individuals.......and should be worn by whoever can live up to their glory!!
I would prefer these beautiful jewels, no, works of art, to not be in the hands of the country that murdered its owner. French people don’t respect their royal history-they’ll gawk at its splendor and glory, but are overall flippant to anything pre 1789. They need to stay incased in a museum! I wonder if it would feel a little strange wearing pieces of diamond jewelry once belonging to the Queen of France ! HUM?

Agreed.
Should have been purchased by France for a museum

It's actually good to touch pearls with bare hands but they should have wore gloves to touch the diamonds and gold/silver.
Those jewels are priceless and should not be sold

France should have purchased the crown for the Louvre. Not sure of the verification on the other pieces.
That Tiara is amazing
