      It's more about convenience than price. Most people don't think to have their cars oil changed until the reminder light comes on then they freak out and pull into the closet shop just to make it go away. Yes I said most since there are people out there who do the correct thing and watch their miles and schedule service when they are due.

    As a Retired Mechanic of 48 years I’ll tell you that the best place to get your car serviced is a reputable 1 or 2 man shop. They have skin in the game and will provide better service than a large shop with a Manager and mechanics. Having an actual mechanic service your vehicle they will usually inspect it for problems that these oil change kids and/or flunkies would never see.

If it's THAT squeezed, you can't even get a good hand grip, often, though. You'd think on something as big as a MGM, they could do better. What you do need to do, is have simple procedures that spend a few extra minutes at most running the engine. Then checking the dip stick, and looking under the car for leaks.

    My 2024 Toyota Corolla comes with "free" maintenance, but I chose (as I do with all of my cars) to do it myself. I know it was done not in a rush, with the right oil filter and the right oil. I did the first oil and filter change at 2937 miles, well under the recommended 10k that Toyota states (supposedly 5k for severe service). The week after I did, the dealership where I purchased the car called me and wanted me to bring it in for the "free 5k mile inspection".
    When I told the woman that I already changed the oil and filter, she said, "Oh no, it's just for tire rotation and fluid top off". That's when I told them, "You delivered the vehicle to me without any washer fluid (which I made them reimburse me for), and you want to touch it again? Go pound sand. If and when it needs warranty work, it's going somewhere else". That ended that chat.

    I be side stepping Mercedes Benz; too expensive! After watching this, I’m going back to a certified dealership. When you drive modest luxury, you have to pay the luxury upkeep 💯.

    Sad sad ....I hope they pay out for those people's cars bc the worst thing is taking your car for an oil change and now you can't get any where. I will never go to take 5.

      Doesn't sound like they are. No resolution was mentioned for either driver. Shame. Most likely they'll need to sue and then maybe get some compensation, but still likely be out thousands.

    Well this is very true last time I was at take five it was super cold out and I just wanted a quick oil change they had an hour long wait because they broke the guy's Cadillac who was ahead of me then after the lube Tech couldn't figure out how to open my hood on a 97 Chevrolet Silverado The man insisted on opening my hood even after I told him what engine I had year make and model. And after fumbling with my hood latch for a minute and telling me it was broken I went out opened it showed him there was nothing wrong closed it and left.

    Wonder how long they were driving before they noticed the oil pressure light. With no oil, it should come on nearly immediately. Another reason to run the engine a bit before leaving the location. More ideally, but less realistic for many drivers, is checking the oil themselves before leaving.

    • @eeedawg1019

      It’s because they market the convenience of having a quick oil change. You stay in your car when they change it and the idea is you’re in and out really fast so no waiting around in the waiting room. I get the appeal but yeah.. if they’re rushing mistakes are bound to happen. Plus they’re expensive.. a lot more than going to the dealership even when I checked

    Waitaminute----if the whole thing at Take5 is 'stay in your car', then wouldn't you see them PUT oil in your car? Sounds like they drain your oil, and then you're like "take my money" and then leave. I think this piece causes its own problem.

      @@Plinian agreed I have had a couple of mustang guys who go to the stealership for service. They think by doing this the is in perfect condition. Several of them have drive home and realized that their car was running rough. They check the oil and it has 20 quarts of oil in the engine. Or they don't put the correct amount less 3 quarts. But the best is that the dealership don't even care. I do all my oil changes and keep my receipts for the oil and filter that I buy.

    • @Plinian
      @Plinian 4 місяці тому

      @@roninthedestroyer8958 I’m very much the same (taught by my old man). I’ll buy a filter and oil, keep the receipt, and then I’ll log the change mileage in a notepad. I used to do the first couple free oil changes at the dealer until I saw on the documentation that they weren’t using the synthetic oil that I had requested. That’s probably a moot point now that everything is mostly synthetic, but I was young and naive at that point in my life. It was a good lesson, and fortunately, it didn’t turn into a costly disaster.
