NICE. I humbly admit that I was taken aback by this video. When I first seen your prototype, I was looking down my nose at how bad it looked. Then you said it was spring loaded and I continued to watch. Then after I finished watching the whole thing, I was felt ashamed. I LOVE THE WOODEN SPRING. Thank you for sharing and thank you for putting this ass in his place by nothing more than sharing your genius.

Great project Jack! Love the simple design. I had to go back and watch a second time to figure out the natural spring. I'd like to make a couple sets. Do you have dimensions on the cuts and pin positioning to make the spring work properly? Or, is it a trial and error thing? Thanks again Jack.... Best regards Charlie

as usual Jack you make things very easy to make, I have made several of your projects and I'm in the process of making this one. there is one thing I would like to ask, being that I'm an old timer, would it be possible to get the measurements in inches?
    Thanks for the great videos

So I'm thinking, "those cuts are a bit long. Wonder where the spring goes. Oh wait......Riigghhhtt" Clever design. (thumbs up) I'm thinking it functions more as a set of dividers than a compass?

think i will make a couple in different sizes. Will probably drill a small stop hole at the base of the slots though I don't really think there will be a lot of pressure trying th split the wood. might make some salad tongs the same way ...

      Here you go Jack: i.imgur.com/C9aSwVO.jpg
I made mine really quickly, my daughter was learning how to use compasses in school and we taught it would be fun to take a really big compass. Her teacher loves these kind of things. Tbh, I thought this one would not work, because I kind of estimated the placement of the hinge. I also should make the leg with the pin shorter, it is too long now. Oh and I made mine out of cherry.
