I know I'm a few years too late. But I actually started a toe up sock by discovering your website. Even decided to watch this video to follow along. You both are doing an outstanding job teaching the world how to knit socks.
Toe-up or cuff-down, whatever the heel construction will it be, the knitting of a heel never stops fascinating me. You are knitting a tube and here comes the heel part - and, bang! Like a magic, the glorious 3D of the heel. Just a pure wonder and joy for me.
What a great video! Thank you for sharing! I use to "throw" but now I am learning your way. Soooo much easier and faster. Less stress on my hands as I age and have more time to knit. Thank you!!
I just found Arne & Carlos and have binged many of the UA-cam videos. I ordered and will receive my first Arne & Carlos book of the "30 Slippers" and should get it today!!! I'm SO grateful to find you. I put one of your UA-cam videos on the TV and knit, enjoying your conversations. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, experience and your knitting with the world. Best wishes.
That is my most favourite way to knit socks! As a child I learned a totally different way (starting at the upper side, with heel flap, etc.). But then I read about this method somewhere (in the 1980s or so). Since then I prefer this way (but still try other ways sometimes)
I have only been knitting for almost 2 years, tried many different sock patterns :-/ after stumbling across this, it's the only sock pattern I use now :-) thank you so very much!!
I’m so fascinated with your knitting skills, your wools are beautiful. I know very little about knitting, but if I watch you enough maybe I’ll decide to give it a try. Thanks for sharing your talents 👍❤️😊
Thank you guys for making knitting so accessible!!! I’m very much a novice at knitting and socks just seemed like something so intimidating. Today, I finished a sock using a combination of your three “Easiest Sock in the World” videos and your online sock pattern. I accidentally overshot the size a bit so it’s a bit loose, and made some other errors but it still looks great!!! I’m so happy, I really made a sock!!! It was so enjoyable that I’m looking forward to starting on a pair as soon as I get back to the yarn store!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I’ve just gotten into the sock knitting world and i LOVE your tutorial on this video! Very well explained, and I loved how you made toe up socks and explained the increases!
Thank you for your inspirational video. I do not usually knit by hand and yet your video has really inspired me to have a go at knitting your "easiest sock in the world" pattern.
My Regia wool and wooden kneedles just arrived, and I am casting on as I watch you guys. I hav3 faith in you, never having knitted a pair of socks before.
Could we have a video about casting on the way you do it, please? I find casting on on 1 needle then dividing over 4 needles, then trying not to twist them so difficult when doing a sock starting with cuff. It is my least favourite part and I always dread it. think I will try toe up but I like that you cast on to 4 needles not 1. In this video it is not clear if you need to place the needles a particular way etc. It would be great to be talked through it. Thanks Arne & Carl x
Great work guys! I will sent all our sockknitting customers to you. They will be thrilled to see you knit with your magnificent sockyarn and will break another sellingrecord in our shop Wolhalla. Hugs from Jo An from Holland.
I LOVE you guys! I've made a sock before but it was a large Christmas sock. I didn't knit it in the round and I connected it up the back. This video is excellent and I love learning how to truly make a real sock! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
He is fast because he is using the technique of wrapping the thread around is left index finger instead of picking up the thread for every single stitch as most Americans do
I have always knit socks top down, after watching this video, I am going to knit a pair toe up this winter. Thank you. Loving your podcast and these short videos. All the best to you both.
you're so good!!! i'm trying purl like you like a week and i can't do it fast as you 😭 hahahaha I'm from Brazil and just found your videos and I loved it. I'd love to knit with you, I don't know men that knit here, most of all because my country sucks...
+Karen Spencer Karen, search on the internet for Regia Design Line by Arne & Carlos. You will surely find the yarns. If not, go to www.wolhalla.com. We will be happy to serve you.
You were right Arne, it is a cuff rather than a hem. (I am English, by the way) We have cuffs around our wrists too (on our jumpers and cardigans) I have only heard the word hem used in reference to sewing, not knitting or crochet. I hope that helps.
Thanks, Kelly, for your clarification. I always cheer when Arne gets a word right. Both Carlos and Arne speak amazing English. I am astounded by Carlos' colloquial expressions.
Wonderful video. Wonderful socks. And you picked such a beautiful place to sit and knit... You inspired me to do the same. I have not gotten to the point where I feel courageous enough to knit socks yet. Mainly because working with four needles looks difficult and intimidating to me. I don't know if you have done this already, but if you haven't, do you think you could do a special on how to work with four needles? Which one goes on top, which one goes at the bottom, how to prevent stitches from sliding off, how to hold all four at the same time. It all seems so daunting to me...
Thank you Arne and Carlos, I have a question, I couldn't quite see what happened after Arnes knitted the contrasting red yarn as a marker for the heel insert. Should I knit over the heel marker with the main sock yarn. Oh yes! I think I have the answer already. Your socks Rock! Btw.
Thank you for your inspiring work. Can you comment on whether it is possible to knit socks or mittens on magic loop needles or circular needles rather than DPN's? Thank you!
Hi. I haven't attempted my first sock yet. I'm quite scared! But you make it look so easy and I love your style of knitting. Continental I believe. Thank you.
Howling Wind, I have terrible arthritis in both hands and do not find it difficult to knit with four needles. That's because at any one time, you are knitting on only two needles. It's in the way that we observe, and the ACTUAL way we knit. You'd have to do it to realize what I mean. Nothing wrong with magic loop, though.
I love the idea of putting in a lifeline I have to try this pair of socks I’m knitting with one from the top down and the other from the toe up and see how they look together I did not do Christmas socks this year for the grandchildren that I’m thinking about starting now since it’s January and working all the socks and putting in a lifeline when I get the measurement of their foot . Only the two great grandchildren are still growing so I can do theirs last then we will have a picture of everyone sitting in front of the fireplace with their socks on except for me I can’t sit on the floor thank you for your videos I really enjoy watching you every day as I am still playing catch-up on your different videos.
I’d love a show that highlights the various methods of holding yarn to knit. I like to learn continental but don’t quite get how to hold tension with the left hand.
Witam🤗 znowu jestem mile zaskoczona .Piękny krajobraz 2 fantastycznych chłopaków i piękne wasze wyroby rzemiosło ręczne .Wyroby z wełen są śliczne .👍👍👍Pozdrawiam i czekam na pokaz jak zrobić rękawiczki .🐑
I can't imagine a hole in the toe and one on the heel. I love Judy's Magic Cast On. No seaming, no extra fabric that makes a pressure point. Still, you have some very interesting shows.
kelly SHERRARD the yarn brand is REGIA. This particular yarn is the REGIA Design Line designed by ARNE & CARLOS (yours truly). It's available all over.
I’m a little confused by the extra yarn after you knit the red placeholder for the heel..I know you will get a loop when you pick up the knitting at the other side but do you leave a specific amount. Thank you for all of your videos, patterns and information!
Hej, very beautiful socks! Thank you for the video. I am a beginner knitter, and I would love to make socks as my first knitwork.. would you have tutorial for beginners about knitting only?
Hi, I am getting ready to start my first sock. Here in the US I haven't been able to find a good quality store bought sock like the ones I bought in Germany. I want a sturdy sock to wear with boots in the winter ( with a little bit of crochet edging). I've seen videos using a lighter worsted weight rather than fingering (sock) weight. What weight is good for thick(ish) boot socks and what is the best composition for stretch, durability, and washing?
Can you use regular 4 ply yarn or do you specifically need sock yarn? How many ounces for each pair of socks? You two do a great job knitting without a pattern.
In India no man can knit. Knitting is not liked by gents. They only do their own jobs.., I surprised when I see you knitting the first time. So are so hardworking and interesting.. Both of you... I like ❤u and your job
I know I'm a few years too late. But I actually started a toe up sock by discovering your website. Even decided to watch this video to follow along. You both are doing an outstanding job teaching the world how to knit socks.
Thank you Nicole!
I did it! I finally did it! I knit a sock! Thanks, you two!
But you need TWO socks 😉
Toe-up or cuff-down, whatever the heel construction will it be, the knitting of a heel never stops fascinating me. You are knitting a tube and here comes the heel part - and, bang! Like a magic, the glorious 3D of the heel. Just a pure wonder and joy for me.
My goal this year is watching you until I can knit your style and make socks. Love your show.
That is a great goal and a very doable one!
I love you guys, so happy I found this channel, what an amazing location to knit and chill out 🤩

Good!
I'm a total beginner, so this didn't make much sense to me, but I was still watching on in awe! This is awesome!
Having been knitting for about 65 years I discovered the small circular needle about 2 years ago so much easier than 4-5 needles! Do try it!
Don't ever stop Your UA-cam video lessons!
Thank you!
This is how I do my socks now. :) You gentlemen are so wonderful to watch!
Thank you Susan!
Now I really miss knitting in nature! You two are inspirational, thank you.
Go Nature knitting!

Stumbled on your video by mistake, so pleased that I did. I subscribed. Thanks guys for your vids.
Great socks and colorful beautiful yarn
thank you for your kind words!
I love that heel because if need be you could quite easily re-do the entire heel.

What a great place to do your knitting.
It sure is, we are very fortunate to have such a beautiful garden.
Lovely to see people still knit these traditionally, I can't and it's easier for me to use 2 circular needles and knit toe up with Turkish cast on
Какие красивые носки!Молодцы ребята!Я в восторге.Спасибо за мастер-класс.
What beautiful socks. Very nice. I think I will try them, they will be my first socks. Thank you so much.

You are a magician! You knit so fast.... I would be losing those needles all the time.
It is not about speed!
I think I've met God's of knitting

Can't wait to get started on my socks, you guys are awesome
Such lovely socks. My best regards to you both from Russia.
Hi Russia!
Thank you so much, what a wonderful way to do the heel, I saw the same used to do the thumb on a mitten. You are such a great help, thanks again.
love to watch you cast on its just like me. I never realized how spiked those first rows
If I could knit that fast I'd stop buying socks and go into business for myself! You guys are great... HAPPY NEW YEAR.
He is fast because he is using the technique of wrapping the thread around is left index finger instead of picking up the thread for every single stitch as most Americans do
How did I not know about your videos before. I love you guys. :) I've watched a bunch of videos while knitting.

This great setup instantly put a smile on my face :). I was looking for a new method to knit the heel. Thank you!
How did I miss this? I'm 2 years late! ACK! BTW I LOVE the easiest sock in the world!
Love watching you as I knit 🥰
Thank you Cathy!
A lovely interesting video I’ve yet to try sock knitting maybe have a go after I’ve finished my blanket
Yes, socks are an easy and rewarding project to start.
Circular needles are so easy!

We are very grateful! You should join us on Wednesdays for our new podcast Sit and Knit for a Bit!

My mother used duo knit Norwegian, so she wouldn't have to look down from whatever she was doing while she was knitting.
Because of rheumatoid arthritis I'm not able to manipulate multiple needles would you consider doing a video on knitting with 2 needles? Cheers!
Mhairie Lee or on magic loop.
Howling Wind, I have terrible arthritis in both hands and do not find it difficult to knit with four needles. That's because at any one time, you are knitting on only two needles. I wish that these beautiful wool yarns came in a synthetic or cotton yarn. I am allergic to wool! So hard to find beautiful yarns in sythetic.

Glad you like it
You guys are great, thanks!!!
I’d love a show that highlights the various methods of holding yarn to knit. I like to learn continental but don’t quite get how to hold tension with the left hand.
Thank you for your feedback Tracy. We use the Norwegian way to hold yarn.
You two are great to show knitting.
I am wondering what I can use and have you used non wool ( No Wool) for socks?
I am allergic to wool.
Some use acrylic

I think I missed the point about the heel. You put the red stitches in and continue in the first yarn? Is it like and afterthought heel?
Hello Arne and Carlos, I love your vidéos so much and I want to see them ALL, up from the beginning.
Please tell me where to start?
If you go to our channel site you can see them all in correct order! a few years of watching

I notice you hold the wool around your left forefinger! Would love to see a video of your casting on and knitting technique ! Thanks guys!
+Annette Du Plessis Fialkov Look for "Continental knitting" on the internet. UA-cam has lots of video's for that technique. Good luck!
Thanks so much!
I love sock knitting. Can put down and pick up any rim d but the heel😹😹
I’m in the process of knitting my first sock with short circulars. Haven’t reach the heel yet but dpns make me hyperventilate.
Is there a chart showing cast on for toddlers to adults? I can’t see to get kids socks right
