+Sam Simpson Yeah, kudos on that! I've gotta be honest, I like to think I would have done that .... but I honestly think I would have been too terrified to be courteous.
Those few vehicles that didn't stop were directly beside the fire. They needed to move. I'm sure the firefighters realized that. Really incredible footage.
Thanks for these. They really give you a good idea of the chaos of evacuating. I have one friend on the FMFD still there and fighting. As a past resident of Lac La Biche I've been to FT Mac many times, glad they paved the road (63).
A friend posted a video on Facebook leaving Beacon Hill, (looks to be the same street) totally incredible. One second you see a small part of a hedge catch on fire, a second later flames are 20+ feet high and the entire hedge is on fire, next thing you see it the edge of the house catch on fire then the roof. All that happened within literally under 20 seconds (time it come into view & drive by).
Amazing video, thank God everyone got out safe! And it sounds like you're calling your work in the video "listen, I don't think I'm going to be in tonight"...that's dedication folks.
I can't even imagine what you all went through (and are still going through)! I don't know that I would have been able to make myself drive toward the fire like that, you were incredibly brave! Sending love (and lots of supplies) from BC!
Still so thankful that it all came down to property damage rather then lives lost! I think most Canadians had friends or family working in Fort Mac at that time!
Amazing videos. I also applaud you on moving aside for the emergency vehicles when they needed to get by. Sad to see 3 people were more concerned about themselves than Emerg vehicles possibly needing to get somewhere immediately.
+Canadagraphs The more likely scenario was that everyone was using both lanes and those people didn't have anywhere to go but forward. Hell I've been caught-out like that by emergency vehicles in heavy traffic.
Can't believe what I'm seeing! I really appreciate you sharing, just to put into perspective how terrifying it must have been. For that amount of people to flee the area safely is truly a testament to you all. Glad you are out safety. #ymmfire
Hey man, looked scary and a little chaotic with those Jeep dudes and the guy on the HD. Seriously dangerous conditions and just be happy you got out alive. I'm praying for you guys.
I lived in Beacon Hill for 6 months -- late November of 2014 to late May of 2015 -- while working at the Burger King in the area. I am sorry for the people who lived in BH, however, I am not sorry my former boss lost his business!
I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I had to evac from a wildfire once before but your situation was so much worse. I'm glad you made it out safely.
Hello from CBS News - I hope you're in a safe place now. The fire looks terrifying. Could CBS News have permission to use your dash cam material (the 6 videos) in our broadcasts/web/affiliates? We will credit you. Feel free to email me: costanza.maio@cbs.com. Thank you, please stay safe. -Costanza
have some family that left their home to come down to our place in calgary, took them over 1 day to make a 7 hr drive. they do not know if they will have a home to return to ... its incredible no deaths have been reported
+AngryYamahaR6 And just like the OP said, sitting there with that fire 50-60 feet away from you was intensely hot and people were panicking because they were afraid and unable to keep sitting there with that. This clearly isn't a normal situation of a small fire and trying to get people out of the way to get a job done. The city was being evacuated and you can see how fast that fire is moving with flames I'm sure shooting 100+ foot high... imagine the heat for a second.
When did they ask people to evacuate? How much of a warning did you have? I was trapped for 4 days in the floods in Lyons, CO. so I had plenty of time to pack.
+Andrew Bottolfson The fire started *very* close to Fort McMurray. It was pretty short notice. As soon as officials saw the blaze was growing apace, they ordered evacuation. Still, it takes time. This evac on Wednesday was a mere two days after the fire actually started. The main concern they're dealing with is still just getting everyone out of the way of the inferno and to places where they have enough support for evacuees like Calgary and Edmonton. (They're planning on airlifting people who had to flee north because of the fire engulfing the highway going south out of there. I dunno if that was done today yet or how many they moved.) It's a bit chaotic. Controlled chaos is the best one can hope for right now. And no reports of anyone dead or missing as a result, so there's that at least.
This footage of this was more educational than any smokey the bear public service announcement ever was. I've shared it extensively because it shows, very clearly, exactly how and how fast the embers spread. On a side note, what's the dash cam you're using? The quality is excellent and I'm looking for one.
+Jennay Noms thanks I guess lol. Yeah when those embers started flying around really started worrying if it was going to be worse further ahead or not. Really wasn't sure how bad it could get, a lot of uncertainty. It's a Lukas LK-9750 DUO that I ordered from canadadashcam.com. It's like a 600$ dash cam with a few accessories an a lens filter.
Bishal, these are the best (worst?) videos I've seen of the evacuation. Your rear camera has a blue spot on the right half, is that heat damage? I noticed you and others getting over to the left when flares occurred, how hot was it?
+John Mullenger it was very hot, and the concer of your vehicle catching fire, my instinct was to try and pull away. Yeah I think that's the blue light saying its on
+ljubavi_moja_uLVNV So the blue light's a reflection. Glad you all made it out - you people in Ft McMurray are amazing (how calm everyone was) - if this happened in my hood, Burlington Ontario, people would panic and there'd be 100 car accidents
I would be afraid those sparks would hit the gas tank!

They seriously expect people to sit there patiently in single file, stop and go traffic with trees burning right beside the road, blinding smoke and red hot cinders raining down on you? All you needed next was to hear the low fuel warning start going Bing Bing Bing.
I can't even put into words... especially looking at Streetview for comparison... goo.gl/maps/woV3598u8B52 it just blows my mind how fast those trees were going up.
Also make sure you monetize these videos. You'll get about $1 for every thousand views. Or $1000 for every million. Google ad account is all you need (you can set this up in 6 minutes )
I can't believe the biker didn't take the sidewalk past all the stopped traffic a lot earlier! I know I would have been motoring out of there while everyone else was stopped.
+Zack Arts - TL I'm almost 100% certain that's why, around 1:45 you can see one of the firetrucks using the other lane get stuck as people keep cutting in front of it trying to use the 2nd lane. props to OP for being one of the few who let the truck through!
+fastacker2 Actually people were using two lanes. See the OP's later videos from this. But when you have this many people all going in one direction, the roads are just completely over capacity, for obviously.
Damn that must have been so scary sorry you had to go through that I remembered when we had a fire by us in Prescott Airzona it was sad we lost part of our family with the 19 hotshots I know they made a movie on it called Only the Brave if you get sometime definitely watch it pretty true and sad movie Godbless
What needs to happen is these smoke plumes go high enough to create an unstable weather system. I'm sure y'all would much rather have severe thunderstorms than this.
if you watch the second clip you can see why those epeople panicked and overtook, a big blaze happened, the heat from that would've been too intense to just sit there, I hardly doubt the people in the comments would just sit and get cooked in that heat. those poor people 😢
Good job blocking the poor guys path when it got hot. You'r in a truck and he's roasting his ass on a bike. I'd be friggin ashamed to post this video as a proof of poor judgment in a emergency situation. Or maybe its a warning on how to not behave during a wildfire?
+earthmover666 they were moving away from the fire which was getting even more intense and close to them... thats y he and others moved to the opposite side of lane so suddenly... -_-
Noticed that you pulled over to let emergency vehicles pass by you. Not everyone did that.
+Sam Simpson Yeah,It got pretty hot sitting there on the lanes next to the fire :(
+Sam Simpson Yeah, kudos on that! I've gotta be honest, I like to think I would have done that .... but I honestly think I would have been too terrified to be courteous.
+Sam Simpson If you watch the rear view dashcam video, you can see because they're trying to get away from the huge fiery inferno
Those few vehicles that didn't stop were directly beside the fire. They needed to move. I'm sure the firefighters realized that. Really incredible footage.
+Ellen Girouard Very true! And some of them only had soft tops, which would offer almost no protection from that incredible heat!
Fella on the bike must have been scared shitless with all the embers landing everywhere
Thanks for these. They really give you a good idea of the chaos of evacuating. I have one friend on the FMFD still there and fighting. As a past resident of Lac La Biche I've been to FT Mac many times, glad they paved the road (63).

Closest thing to a miracle i've ever seen
I don't know how you guys could stand passing through so much smoke!! It's amazing no one died from smoke inhalation.
I'm so sorry to see all this, but I'm glad you made it out safely
Absolutely incredible, thanks for sharing...best of luck.
Amazing videos. I also applaud you on moving aside for the emergency vehicles when they needed to get by. Sad to see 3 people were more concerned about themselves than Emerg vehicles possibly needing to get somewhere immediately.
+Canadagraphs
The more likely scenario was that everyone was using both lanes and those people didn't have anywhere to go but forward. Hell I've been caught-out like that by emergency vehicles in heavy traffic.
Nice clear picture. Good cam
Can't believe what I'm seeing! I really appreciate you sharing, just to put into perspective how terrifying it must have been. For that amount of people to flee the area safely is truly a testament to you all. Glad you are out safety. #ymmfire
This is so horrible and the worst thing is that anyone of those embers can spread miles away and start even another fire.
Hey man, looked scary and a little chaotic with those Jeep dudes and the guy on the HD. Seriously dangerous conditions and just be happy you got out alive. I'm praying for you guys.
The most amazing footage I have seen. You need to put a watermark on your videos - I know you probably don't care right now though.
+Brett Yeah, I do not have the tools to do so at the moment. Although happy to share the experience and videos.
+ljubavi_moja_uLVNV I understand. Wishing you well!
+ljubavi_moja_uLVNV Am using for a CNBC blog. Please email me at david.reid@cnbc.com if this is a problem.

You tube will start paying you for the number of views. Thank you for sharing a very scary experience.
Insane how many people passed the cars and blocked the fire engine. Even if they were scared, still.
I can't even imagine what it was like to be in that fire storm and what it's like right now. Praying for all of you ... God be with you
I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I had to evac from a wildfire once before but your situation was so much worse. I'm glad you made it out safely.
I got goose bumps just watching that i don't know what i would do i will panic like crazy thats how i'm prayers to all
Weird... When I see fire I don't usually get goosebumps...
Every one is different i don't see anything wired about it. You might react totally differently than i do.

Amazing footage, hope you guys and your community survives without too much damage.
+RODALCO2007 Fort McMurray is absolutely gutted from what I hear.
LOOK AT HOW BIG THAT FLAME IS. It's so fucking crazy.
wow, amazing video. thanks for sharing my friend. Glad you got out.
Welcome to Canada, there is a brutal forest fire and people keep driving well, just awesome, love canada
from 1:04 a little to the right of the car in front of this car you can see how fast a tree was set of fire. about 5 seconds.
Crazy...and nice widowmaker profile pic >_>
My heart had immediately started to beat faster as I opened the video

Those embers coming down seem to do the most damage but yet so small
have some family that left their home to come down to our place in calgary, took them over 1 day to make a 7 hr drive. they do not know if they will have a home to return to ... its incredible no deaths have been reported
+cb7pwn
Aye, no deaths reported as a direct result of this is a minor miracle at this point (I don't mean that in the literal sense).
80 000 people used to live there, now it's a ghost town.
+LaserQ Oh ! I'm so sorry. Praying for all of you God be with you all
nice cod reference
+MVPappas60
God has nothing to do with this. Keep your churchmongering outta this.
+Azzy M Chill out dude he/she just wants the best for everyone at fort mcmurray no need to be mad

prayers from Nova Scotia Canada
Glad you made it out alive, praying for our Northern Brothers!
Great picture quality, what dash cam is that?
crazy. its amazing cars can survive that heat
I get it that people are trying to leave the city ASAP but let the Fire Department get through first if you want your city to be normal again.
+AngryYamahaR6 And just like the OP said, sitting there with that fire 50-60 feet away from you was intensely hot and people were panicking because they were afraid and unable to keep sitting there with that. Dang that looks crazy
Thumbs down to those A-holes in the jeeps that wouldn't let the fire truck and ambulance through!
+James Allen
They were probably all just using two lanes to get the hell out and didn't have anywhere to go but forward.
+James Allen If you watch part 2 of 6 you'll understand why...

Link the first flame, Ashen one.
There's a perfectly good sidewalk there. Next time, use it!
i hope everyone is safe and sound. sbogom.
Would that old line we all mumble while sitting in traffic apply? ......'COME ON PEOPLE...YOUR KILLING ME'
For all u people in Fort mcmurry keep safe

thanks for the update...
wow that's insane...
why are they not using 2 lanes???
just during basic evacuations from hurricanes they open nearly every lane going AWAY from the water.
They need to leave that lane available for the emergency crews to get through
Reminds me of walking down the stairs of the WTC the silence
thats must of been some scary
I would be afraid those sparks would hit the gas tank!

+sakimano yes sir, revenue will be directly donated to Fort mcmurray, I'm hoping for something from viralhog yes.
scary situation...
I can't believe the biker didn't take the sidewalk past all the stopped traffic a lot earlier! I know I would have been motoring out of there while everyone else was stopped.
Ya I was like 5 years old that time
WTF why are people driving so slowly and pulling over, damn, that's stressful!
This fire is nothing compared to the judgement day hell fire.
Why didn't get you go the other lane, mate ? You've got to get out of there !
Wow. Why didn't they let traffic use both lanes to escape in an emergency?
My best guess is so the emergency personnel can continue coming through to try and fend off the flames so people can evacuate. So scary to watch!
+Zack Arts - TL I'm almost 100% certain that's why, around 1:45 you can see one of the firetrucks using the other lane get stuck as people keep cutting in front of it trying to use the 2nd lane. props to OP for being one of the few who let the truck through!

hey man, was any damage done to your truck?
no, no damage on my truck.
i did hear that a few vehicles did have their fenders or mud flaps melted.
Wow...that's amazing.
What camera is this?
Lukas
If there was a video on how the end of the world would look like, this is it.
Go to CBC news
I feel sorry for you man :(
prayers from 'murica
Mon Dieu prenez soins de tout ces gens 😢
you a fireman ???
Anyone else noticed the guy on the bicyle at 2m27 ??? Right next to the fire, wtf....
Don't think it is a cyclist actually is just a signpost
+mja9393 I was about to say how wrong you were and how right I was, but upon further inspection, you are totally right.
+MillowQc I checked Google street view, it's actually a marker for a manhole cover, in order for snowplows to avoid hitting it in the winter.
What needs to happen is these smoke plumes go high enough to create an unstable weather system. I'm sure y'all would much rather have severe thunderstorms than this.
+Brent Coley I was thinking that. Hopefully the heat will cause a thunderstorm :/
10 years ago Trudeau's must Go no need to show this show how the fire's are doing today June 2024
I was there
i am so sad to see this
A-holes cutting off the fire trucks, and jumping ahead of other cars....

They don't need prayers they need RAIN and lots of it....
You know how the bible talks about the gates of hell and such, you think maybe this kind of event they were referring to

Most fucked up recording of this tragedy!
ANY Sane person would turn around and go the other way.. WTF??
Omg😥
seems ljubavi_moja_uLVNV started all the over taking & nearly ran down the guy on the bike, so who is the real Ahole there ,,
+earthmover666 they were moving away from the fire which was getting even more intense and close to them... thats y he and others moved to the opposite side of lane so suddenly... -_-
