I’m not not pregnant, in fact I’m a grandmother but I have the most itchiest skin due to menopause I’m 58, yes and menopause can make very itchy, so I’m trying this recipe for sure I love it...thanks Melissa 👍🏻😘
Melissa, you look gorgeous! :) As a tip, try to find a soap that has a lower ph (so important!), if the soaps/shower gels you are using are too alkaline, they will dry your skin and strip it of natural oils. After finding a good soap, my top tip is sweet almond oil on wet skin, like you said :) or a mix of different oils with almond oil, like you have in the video, sounds amazing! I really want to try rose hip seed oil! I've also heard good things about neroli and patchouli oil for preggie bellies :) worth checking out!
I have used Olive Oil for many years. When I use it it works really well and not that expensive. You look wonderful!!! Waiting for those first pictures of the new baby .. very soon ;)
I am using Lush Sleepy bodylotion before bed, as the lavender helps me sleep! During the day (after my morning shower) I usually apply a bit of whatever natural oil I have at hand, because I am trying to use up some body oils before baby arrives, and to keep my stash fresh! Right now, it’s a bottle of argan oil!
I'm kind of reluctant to say it,but generally people don't need to shower every single day. The doctor told me this when my kids were small. Every other day is fine and better for the skin. Also, if the water is too hot, it tends to dry out the skin. I get really dry hands and I fine that Vaseline cream( in white tub) from the drugstore-- get it on sale for$2.99- works better than some of the more expensive ones I've tried. Good luck to you and Chad and Baby!
I'm a big fan of grape seed oil. It's inexpensive, fragrance free, moisturizes, absorbs quickly, it's nice and light and has a ton of uses. I not only cook with it, but apply it to my skin, including a few drops on my face. I also make a sugar scrub out of it to exfoliate and moisturize my skin. You can also warm it and use it as an oil treatment for your hair, which is great if you have dry, itchy scalp. Apparently, it has anti-inflammatory properties so it reduces redness.
I'm a stretch marks suffer... I had no knowledge of all this when I was pregnant with my first son 14 years ago. All I knew about was Coco butter. My pregnant nose said no! Lol I hated the smell so I stopped and totally regret it now. I did however use mederma and vit. E to help heal the stretch marks after he was born. I am following another UA-camr who is pregnant now with her 3rd child. Made her own different recipes and found oils did not work for her skin type with her 2nd. Butters work better for her. And after all these years I realized butter blends are working better on even my old stretch marks. Good for you being so proactive about it. I wish I had known about the dry brushing too☹️ Good news is that even if you do get some, keep up with what you do now and it will help them heal and fade better over time☺️
HI MELLISA IS SO NICE TO SEE THIS VIDEO AND PRENGNAT BUT ,I WOULD LIKE THAT YOU SHARE SOME VIDO DURING YOUR PREGNANCY CLEANING I DO THE SAME HOUSE CLEANING BUT I WOULD LIKE TO LEARN MORE THE WAY THAT YOU CLEAN EXSAMPLE THE WASHROOM THE POSITION THANKS SO MUCH .
I'm 37 weeks pregnant right now! My skin only gets slightly dry but I use just coconut oil on my body and face. I also bought the brand Hempz pomegranate scented lotion, it has hemp seed oil in it and it is super moisturizing without being oily. Thanks to your video I am super excited to try the sweet almond oil as well. Thanks Melissa!
Congratulations on your pregnancy !! Just got done watching your video where you guys called each other out on bad habits.. Loved it. Are you planning on doing videos about nursery tips and cleaning on the clean my space side?
Nut oils (Marula and almond) are quite effective however when your significant other is allergic to nuts it’s a huge problem. So I had to switch out my routine that I’ve had for years. I found that Amlactin or Vanicream (I avoid fragrance like the plague) with a few drops of Rose Hip Oil has been a great alternative for dry itchy skin.
I didn't get stretch marks until the last 2 weeks or pregnancy. I was so bummed about it. But now, I am just embraced the pinup style one piece bathing suit and am happy. If I ever get pregnant with no. 3, I'll try this one.
I love Virginia Worwood's essential oil recipes. I put a few drops of carrot seed and borage oil in my apricot kernel body oil and an essential oil mixture. Recipes from her book
I was told that excessive itchiness could be a sign to exfoliate. Therefore, I purchased a loofah and it helps! That way, the lotion or skincare absorbs more efficiently and can actually do its job. I've also moved away from lotions with petroleum and toward butters and oils.
Citrus essential oils are photosensitizing, so make sure you dont use anything with them on any skin that will be exposed to sunlight! You could end up with bad burns.
@@melissamaker Citrus oils can be non-photosensitizing if they were distilled, as opposed to cold-pressed. There is a company that makes this distinction and sells supposedly non-photosensitizing oils. However, I forgot their name. Must look them up again.
Melissa Maker I either use bio oil or I stop using soap on that part of my body. In the winter my legs get really dry so I just don't put soap on them, they dry out less that way and if it gets bad then I use bio oil. If your skin feels tight after a shower then it's been overly washed and striped of moisture. I stopped using soaps containing SLS and use more nature soaps that still have glycerine in them and that also helps.
Natural soaps made with palm oil and a good lotion always after a shower with or without adding carrier oils. Loofah or sugar scrubs a couple times a week.
I love skin care and i never heard of sweet almond b4; thank you for this vid! I have a steady skin care routine which includes baby oil (for after shaving my legs. Total game changer!) Otherwise, i do use coconut oil on my skin after the shower too. But I don't have greasy skin afterward. I use it while i'm still wet and pat dry; I've never had an afterward greasy feel. I've also recently discovered argan oil. (To my happiness, it also works just as well as baby oil for after shaving my legs.) But I also have rosacea. So after cleansing (cetaphil) and then washing (with baby shampoo) my face, I put 3-4 drops of argan oil on my face (i pat in all these moisturizers, no rubbing, any rubbing irritates & activates my rosacea) then i add cerave and then a few drops of coconut oil on top. I LOVE cerave! My cheeks are SO HOT and cerave feels so cool and smooth (its nice and thick too), i swear it feels like it puts out the fire in my face. So yeah, those 3 :) ..... In other news: I'm curious to know if you are going to do a vid on your baby girl. Are you gonna do a name reveal on your daughter or at least tell us the "how i knew and how i told chad" story? Thanks! Ya'lls vids are fun.
Melissa Maker I use CeraVe lotion and cocunut oil but I was looking for a more long lasting option than the lotion and more practical/ less greasy one for the oil. I just made your recipe and I liked the smell and consistency, I also felt like and old apothecary while making it, hahaha so much fun!. Thanks!
Hey Melissa, Thank you for your post! How does this play into your dry brushing routine? On the days you shower and moisturize with your DIY pregnancy oil, can you still dry brush? Or do you only dry brush on clean dry skin? Thanks! P. S. I love your channel, I have your book, and my house has been so much cleaner since watching CMS! I love your DIY cleaning products. I thought my tub was just old and dingy, but with your recipe, my tub is sparkly clean! Thank you again! :)
I use sweet almond oil on my hands and nails at night - feet too sometimes. Way better than any lotion. Going to try your mix minus the scent. Like to keep it as simple as possible
I'm pregnant too, and had to switch away from coconut oil as well. I've found nivea in shower lotion has veen a life saver. I then put cerave lotion on my hands and belly because I seem to always ve dry there.
I find chamomile essential oil mixed with a carrier oil works well for myself for itchy, red, sensitive skin. You could easily add it to your recipe I am sure.
I"m 57 now, my "baby" is 26 years old, but back in "my day" my go-to oil was just good old fashioned Baby Oil. I am tiny and went from 101 lbs to 167 when I was full term and I didn't get one single stretch mark. Lost all the weight after having my daughter and also put on mid-life, post menopause tummy weight, lost it again -- still -- zero stretch marks! I don't know if it's genetic because my mom had stretch marks, but I have always just gone to baby oil for everything.
Not anymore, now I'm old and turning silver haired and have wrinkles :-) Just saying that any kind of oil is truly the secret to keeping those stretch marks away -- you're glowing Melissa!
I never had a single stretch mark anywhere....until....the last two weeks when the baby dropped overnight...and then i got some on the sides of the belly/hip area.
I use baby oil before I even towel off, then lotion. Winter is harder on my skin of course, but this has worked well for me for many years. My hands are a different story in the Winter though! hard to keep them moisturized as I am constantly washing them 😬 You look amazing BTW 😘
I know this has nothing to do with the question you asked, but what is your skin care routine meanwhile pregnant? Like I know there are a lot of products pregnant women can't use specially when it comes to anti wrinkle/again products. I'm so happy for you and your family!
As you get over 50, you will find the same kinda of conditions. I use Cetaphil cream (not lotion) that comes in a tub at the drugstrore. Excellent for ezcema. For the face, I use Albolene cleanser. When I was pregnant I didn't get stretch marks and I swore by Coconut Butter. I used it religiously. It comes in a tub. Absorbs well. Stops the itching and has already alot of vitamin E in it. Sometimes i use coconut oil on my face as a sleep mask. It is greasy though. But in the mmorning it feels good. I'm with you on the expensive things. I think that basic ingredients like you have are excellent. no use in paying for a big name brand. You can add in the coconut butter as a base as well if you like to feel the thickness of the cream.
I absolutely do NOT recommend buying your oils on amazon. There is no way to know what exactly is in them. Knowing the quality of your oils is important.
Melissa Maker labeling is tricky because the FDA doesn’t have any regulations on essential oils and don’t require companies to tell you what’s actually in the bottle. Although it may say that it’s 100 percent pure, the FDA says that to be “pure” the company is only required to put 5% of the actual oil. The only company I trust is Young Living. Their Seed to Seal process guarantees their quality. If you want to learn more, visit seedtoseal.com/en. I’d love to send you a sample of their Lavender.
People who say this are so full of shit and will always try to peddle you their oil brand they sell- young living is the WORST for this. I literally had to unfriend a friend of mine she pushed it so hard- because of that i will NEVER buy young living.
Those aren't 100% pure. There are no FDA regulations. You really should not be applying these to your skin. Please look into the sourcing of these oils. There are no therapeutic benefits with these oils. I use doTERRA but will never push anyone to use them. I always tell people to do their research (and don't trust an opinion of bloggers). Actually look at the sourcing and how the oil is tested. Pure oils should be able to be used aromatically, topically and orally. If you can't ingest a simple citrus oil like lemon, then that should raise some alarms and that would make me question their purity.
I’m not not pregnant, in fact I’m a grandmother but I have the most itchiest skin due to menopause I’m 58, yes and menopause can make very itchy, so I’m trying this recipe for sure I love it...thanks Melissa 👍🏻😘

I use “non-processed” coconut oil. My sister taught me that. It works and absorbs quickly.
Oh interesting...I'll have to look into that!

It would be perfect for that purpose alone!

I never had a single stretch mark anywhere....until....the last two weeks when the baby dropped overnight...and then i got some on the sides of the belly/hip area.
Yeah that happened to a friend of mine, too. You just never know with this pregnant business.

Melissa Maker thank you!
Melissa, is the rose hip seed oil safe for pregnancy?
Can you do a DIY daily body butter or lotion? I am tired of spending so much on these because I run out of them pretty quickly.
Yes - honestly just use shea as a base and have fun!
Cocoa Butter...! Rub like crazy 💜
Nice!!!

Where did you find that white maternity tee you are wearing?
It's from The Gap!
Where is your T-shirt from? Can never find nice maternity T-shirt’s.
Ha! Gap!
My Mom and my sister got them and I didn’t get them with either kid.
I also rubbed coconut oil on me after every shower.
Would this recipe be good to use for dry skin?. My skin is so dry this winter. Moisturizing lotion just isn’t cutting it
Absolutely!!! It would be amazing actually!
I don't use anything as I can't cope with sticky or grease hands. Xxx
I get it!
Who the hell is that one person who disliked this video? 1!!!
I had zero stretch marks then my baby was born n my skin went back too fast and boom tiger stripes haha
