Hello bird lovers. I have both lenses. 150-600 perfect for a tripod. Hard to carry. 100-400 light to hand. The photos from both lenses are beautiful. Greetings from Poland.

I bought the 100-400mm purely for the weight reason. No point having a lens that’s too heavy to carry around. True the background blur isn’t as good as the 600mm but if you get the right background it doesn’t matter too much. Sometimes for tracking birds in flight you don’t want to be too tight in framing as you can loose track if they change direction. The main advantage of the 600mm is for the tiny birds like Robins, finches etc.

Thanks for your comment. The 100-400 is also one of my favorite lenses. it is very light and compact for the focal length. above all, it is also very sharp

Thinking about getting the 100-400mm. It has greater versatility imo. The 100-400 converts to 150-600 on an APSC sensor or in crop mode on my A7R IIIa. WIth the 150-600 you cant really reverse it PLUS the weight difference.. 1.7 kg is A HUGE difference!! so def more prone for the 100-400mm and it is my impression that people reach out for this lens more often than the other due to its versatility. But great vid buddy, thanks!

Thank you for your comment. 👍 I never know which one to take with me. I love the look of the 150-600 but it's just so big and heavy. That's why I often take the 100-400 with me and live with some compromises.

This is the exact video i was looking for. I'm wondering which of the two to get, and I'm now closer to a decision. I really liked the side by side zoom useful to get a clearer idea of the differences in focal length.

Just the right video for me. The 150-600 is a bit heavy for hiking. Thinking about the lighter Sigma 100-400. I easily held my old Leica 100-400 for micro 4/3, and it was just a bit lighter than the Sigma 109-400.

@@dawa5581 Thanks mate! I bought it and it should be arriving today. Got it for half price of what it’s currently selling as new, so pretty happy about it. I’m taking it with me to shoot some nature and animals on a road trip to the western coast of Norway, in my gf’s old T3 van. First time shooting wildlife. And yeah I’m on a6100 so getting that extra 200mm’s reach. Could you ask for more?? Stoked!

I made a bunch of tests on my own and came to this conclusion:
The sigma 100-400mm at 400mm f/6.3 is not sharp enough to make use of higher sensor resolution than about 24MP. Through many different tests I could conclude that at 400mm f/6.3, I could never see any difference in detail (when pixel peeping) between photos taken with sony a7c 24MP and photos taken with sony a7c ii 33MP. However, if I switched to my Sony 35mm f/1.4 GM lens, I would easily see difference. This means that at 24MP and higher, the lens was the bottleneck. So just a heads up, if you want to make the most out of e.g. Sony A7IV or Sony A7RV, the Sigma 100-400 is not sharp enough at 400

Thank you for your comment. I used a Sony A7RIII with 42 MP for this test and I'm really impressed with the quality. But I also have to say that there are some differences in the quality testing of sigma and tamron. I also made a video about this on my channel. The differences in quality are sometimes frightening.

Yes I have both lenses for my APS-c camera. However I just got a Lumix S5 and will need one or both of these. Weight is the deciding factor. The 100-400 is an everyday lens for landscape and wildlife for me. The 600mm is heavy to lug around. I have used it for bird photography handheld, with success, but looking for rests where possible. Suits a tripod. So I'm getting the 400mm next and followed by the 600mm noting that these are around £1000 each for good used. Video is excellent and very helpful. (I do have an adapter for my existing lenses but I get vignetting)
