    would you use ultra zoom like this for portrait or wild life photography?

    • @tomcutvideo7378

      I do. XF200mm F2 from Fuji. I'm laughing when people talk about ideal focal lenght for portrait. Of course it's not really easy to talk with your model but it's even better in my opinion.
      Ok 200mm is not ultra zoom but it's given with x1.4 converter wich makes a 280 equiv to 420 something like f4. It's just phenomenal ... but it's far from 1000 dollars :)

      I am an amateur photographer and particularly bad at portrait shots. Some time ago, I decided to get far away from the subject and took photos at almost 500mm equivalent (on Sony RX10 M3). It came out so nice that I myself was shocked. I really want to try portraits with an ultra zoom lens now, but using my A7R M3. Considering this lens for it.

    I originally bought the Sigma 150-600 in 2021, but quickly found it too big and annoying to pack and carry, especially when carrying a baby bag and other kid-related items. My wife called the lens SBL, for "Stupid Big Lens". I sold it and bought this Sigma 100-400 (Canon) and have been MUCH happier. I've now had the 100-400 for almost 3 years, and it's still one of my favorites. I shoot with a 5D Mark IV, 6D Mark II, and 7D Mark II, and it's fantastic on all of them. Super easy to toss it in the bag and go, and I've never matched the extra reach. I feel like it's not talked about very often though, so I was pleased to see this video even if it is an older upload.

    The new Sigma 100-400 for Sony e-mount is a DN version newly designed with e.g. an additional FLD lens compared to the older DSLR version (for Nikon and Canon). The image quality is better of the new, mirrorless version and thus the higher price is to some extend justified. Also, the new DN version focuses faster and I feel the OS too is slightly better than the older version. The update to the DN version (for me as a Sony user) was indeed worth it.

    I have both (Sony) full frame and micro four thirds cameras: I can reach out to 400 with the Olympus but want to get out to 600 or 800 for some bird photos.......so here's my question.....
    is it crazy to think about putting this Sigma on my Sony and then cropping to get an 800mm equivalent? I can get an 800mm lens for the Olympus for about the same money. I've never found the Sony ibis to be nearly as effective as Olympus' though. I'm on the fence! Thoughts?

    • @PavSZ
      @PavSZ  4 роки тому

      Cropping is an option but that depends what Sony camera you have. By cropping this much you are going to loose a lot of resolution. You can also shoot in APS-C crop mode with Sony cameras. That will give you 1.5x magnification at the cost of resolution.
      Shooting at 400-600-800mm magnifications I'd recommend some kind of stabilisation like a monopod or a tripod anyway.

    • @godsinbox
      @godsinbox 4 роки тому

      for a 24mp full frame then cropping isnt going to gain much. since an e mount teleconverter isnt probable, maybe stick with sony lenses

    Tamron just announced their 70-300 compact inexpensive zoom for Sony E Mount that would match possibly your previous lens preference better. I imagine the Sigma is probably better overall but it’s also almost double the price even though both are great values.

    • @StacheEsq
      @StacheEsq 4 роки тому +2

      The Tamron doesn't have optical image stabilization, which is a deal breaker at 300mm unless you're only using it on a tripod.

    • @sneakergearz
      @sneakergearz 4 роки тому +3

      ChristianDeme many older lenses don’t have IS either, simply raising the shutter speed. But for the best shot, yeah, using a tripod and saving another $400 might be a better alternative for a lot of shooters.
