This is one of the few times I see a UA-camr put in the work and do their research to make a well thought out video with diagrams and explanations. Personally I love this not just the half fast guessing most UA-camrs do. Love the video and keep up the good work.
The current elder melder functionality is useless, no-one in their right mind is going to blind roll for a tiny chance at a good decoration from a set loot table. You should be able to meld a decoration of your choice using your current deco's as the base material, maybe at a 3 for 1 cost for rarity 8's, 6 for 1 for 7's and a boat load of them for 6's. I'm now using save scumming cos I dont have an infinite amount of playtime to get the deco's I want, especially for crucial ones like mighty bow (Im a bow main so yeah) which I was lucky enough to get after about 40 rolls. If there was a fair way to get the one's you want there would be no need for this method.
I agree with you. Took down a 30 minute faint once and you fail tempered Vaal Hazak with 4 rewards slots and got absolutely NOTHING good. It was insanely frustrating. I might consider doing this...
it's all rng.. i got att, crit boost, mightybow, power shot from elder melder... and yes i still farm elder dragons alot. once you know how to do it, it's around 3-7 mins/ elder dragon.
I think it’s perfectly fine. What else are people supposed to do with 15 extra slugger gems? I hear ya though, it takes a while to get some gems and some people can’t put in 500+ hours into the game. I’m a bow main too and luckily I got mighty bow fairly early on. Same with protective polish, minds eye, normal shot and power shot. Still looking for handicraft for my melee builds!
astartespete I can tell monster hunter world is your first monster hunter game lol these games require a lot of time to be top tier you should've taken that into account before you bought the game then complain about something that is common knowledge
Worth mentioning that the step counter for decoration sniping from the Elder Melder advances on a set repeating pattern of 1, 1, 2. If you're 2 steps away from the decoration you want from her but your next hunt overshoots it, what you need to do is instead do a basic low tier meld to advance the step counter by one (it can be for only one decoration return as well) which will put you forward only one step so your next advanced meld should be for the deco you were sniping.

1. save the save file to cloud or USB, I personally use USB it's faster and safer, no connection variant. 2. get a sheet of paper and write down all the upcoming melding, aka use all your points and decos. 3. highlight any decos that you want along the way. Copy the save file from the USB to the machine to roll back to where you were before all that melding. (DON'T MESS THIS ONE UP!) 4. figure out which "advancement" you are currently. The advancement number goes by 1-1-2 and you need to figure out where exactly you are at, then mark the sheet with advancement numbers right beside each roll. 5. either do the 1 minute optional 6 star quest that requires you to deliver 4 fossils or continue doing whatever 9 star tempered quests to maximize the efficiency of deco farming. It's really your choice of how you want to move forward the table. (I do tempered quest cause after solely doing that optional quest only to move forward on the sheet for an hour you get bored to death.) 6. Repeat once you've reached the end of the sheet. I do maybe like 50 - 60 melding rolls each time so you don't have to constantly mess with the save-copy-paste process. I've been doing this for about a month ago at around 140hr gameplay and now i'm 240hr and I've got the majority of all the rarity 7, 8 decos (to their full effect), like 3 mushroomancer, 3 artillery, attack gems etc and many more that I couldn't have gotten them otherwise. Mind you that I was also doing 9 star quests along the way and personally the quest rewards never give me what i want.. It's a bit more work but it pays off big time if you are a true decos enthusiast.
ibb.co/bGm5cH ---- if this helps a little. like Mark Bulosan said, it's the skip pattern. it's vital that you know where exactly you are and where you will be going on the sheet, and if you have something you want that's right after the 2 skips, you can just meld one cheapest melding to have 1 skip, as well as keep on track that you will be one roll down "AFTER" getting the one you want from a specific roll. Note that you can always do melding to have 1 skip everytime, it doesn't interfere with the 1-1-2 pattern when you do quests.

Some like to play how the game is intended to play, while others take advantage of loopholes. Doesn't make either one wrong or right, just different playstyles. :)
EXACTLY. The problem is you get people who identify so strongly with the game, and get all their sense of worth from it, that they forget there's a real world out there, and its okay to just finish grinding a meaningless score in a game you wont be playing in a year or two.
Im not a gamedesigner but I recall that there is a saying: people will always find the easiest way. So no matter how gimmicky and epic you design a boss battle, if players can cheese it to save time, they will. Take world of warcraft for example: there was a pvp mode where both teams had to fight eachother and defeat eachothers general. For a while, they played as intended: both armies clashed in the battlefieldas they tried to defend their fortress. But later, they realized they got a better payoff by just ignoring eachother and making it a race towhoever could beat the leader first. Essentially turning pvp into a pve race. It was not intended to be that way, but they cant blame players to find the easiest way to the prize.

If you guys need any help with farming investigations (tempered) then my advice will be to look for Diablos (t2) and Kirin (t3). Once you have managed to get one of them just set up the quest and just follow them around. For Diablos I suggest you bring a ghillie mantle since he will attack you. I haven't done Kirin yet but I'm 90% sure you won't need a ghillie mantle since shocky pony gives no f***s. For food wise. I recommend the food perk Felyne researcher since it will help tremendously with your collecting. Happy hunting my fellow hunters! May you have some luck with your decoration farming the hard way.
Completing or failing a quest advances the melder table in a pattern of 2 steps, 1 step, 1 step. Though the only way to know in what part of the cycle you are on you would have test it by doing a quest and then melding to see how many steps it advances.
I'd also recommend four pieces of guild cross armor. It basically does this: For every reward, there's a chance for another reward (Around 40%). This applies to box rewards and breaking parts. The guild favour also seems to have chance to upgrade the box reward tiers as I have gotten some worn feystones and rare warped from T1 tempered and from my experience when hunting with pals and comparing loot. I end up getting 1 augment stone extra around 50% of time So, I recommend 4 guild cross pieces in your farming gear. They are decent pieces without real resistance weakness, some alright skills and most importantly, they got good deco slots, so when you have reached a point in the game where you have good supply of defense gems but little to no offense gems, slot proper defense decos against the monsters you are hunting and you should be in clear when doing these bosses. Sure, you aren't speedrunning, but if you take the extended boss time as practice and.. ost importantly; A piece of entertainment, you'll do just fine

Everyone keeps knocking the savescuming but as a player who has done countless tier 2 investigations only to get endless B jewels. Then turn around and randomly meld to get the same B jewels, it would be nice to take a peek behind the curtain and go for something substantial rather than the continued grind and gambling with no return.
I got so stressed by watching you casually go through that list of SOS investigations! :) The ship's already sailed by the time you have actually read what the investigation is all about in my experience.

Just and FYI, and someone may have mentioned this already. I actually did get a Hero’s Streamstone by completing a threat level 2 tempered Diablos Investigation.
I hope this expansion changes the whole decoration system, previous games had a MUCH easier system. And that melder is almost a complete waste of stones.
You can trigger cloud save in your room when you talk to the trailrider kitty go down to check for add ons and there you go! Cloud saved! To go on and offline easy just go to network settings in the xbox settings menu and just be extra careful everybody! Hope that helps ^_^
great guide. I didn't realize that the elder melder eats your points towwards the end until after using her for a while lol. Edit: also I do wish there was a "Remove All Decorations" option like there was in previous games so we can meld them easier.
The reason theres a lower chance is Because in Threat lvl 3 missions you dont get the white feystones anymore, so they had to balance it out a little bit you still get better rewards from threat level 3 Tempered investigations over all and in the long run
Really enjoy your videos man. This one extra useful for me. I don’t have a lot of time to dig deep into Monster Hunter these days. You made it very plain and simple the reason you do t2 vs t3. The only thing I’m still not 100% on is if you’re not not melding out 3 decos worth then you’re wasting potential use of your streamstone right?
Megabakufun2 ye man just terrible what EXACTLY do you need it for again cause to my knowledge no skills are needed to beat any quest in the game let alone jewels? Having an optional post game grind to keep players interested is great game design if it doesn’t work for you great come back for new monsters ect, that being said having all the jewels to maximize your fucking build is a bit pointless when you have nothing to do with it nice try tho dood cheat to your hearts content it takes fucking ages and the gameplay is much better than playing the game normally lol then after you have everything you will want you have nothing to play for and you’ll do a few hunts and be bored as fuck. Meanwhile ima hunt monsters with friends have fun reloading your save file I hope you find tons of joy with it
You keep saying "Back-up to the cloud", when I think you're intending to say "Reload from the cloud". Don't want someone to accidentally reback-up their save after they've spent all their decorations
I felt so bad for my friends when I, as a bow main, used the elder melder for the first time and got the mighty bow jewel. Literally after just playing for 100 Hours, I got what bow mains with 600+ hours are still looking for. I feel so bad.

Both types of streamstones now drop from threat lv 2 investigations btw. I still don't see the data updated on kiranico, but I've gotten quite a few, and it was in one of the patches a long time ago (not the % though)
To all of you complaining about your attack jewels. I had 4 attack jewels at HR 80-something but found out earlier this week that my account was never backed up to cloud before replacing my PS4. ;_;

I just started and at level 39-40 I did a 4x Reward box tempered tier 2 capture: pink rathian and recieved a Hero's streamstone: Axe (switchaxe and CB). I guess it's fairly unlikely to get it since everything says its not possible to get one from T2 investigations. Ironically I was hoping for a Warrior's version which is more common, for my Diablos Ty 2 CB.

394 hours into the game... not a single Attack Jewel. Not a single Artillery or Capacity up Jewel (i mainly played Charge Blade for the first 250 hours or so). The game just hates me, and i hate it in return. Don't want to use any save scumming to be honest, but my patience is running dangerously thin at this point.
Right, I wish I knew about him when I was playing heavily the first time I was around, I've soaked up so much knowledge and increased my hunting, gathering efficiency, and overall gameplay by light years. I'm still not in the major leagues yet but boy I'm getting there.
I have 7 attk and 8 crit eye. But not from scumming. Never tried it. Lots of crit boost ones too. Just play normal and farm T2 Temp quests and T3. Look for the 4 purple rewards and keep doing them. More chance at rare deco.
By the time you did all the prep and then the sniping for that specific deco, you could be downing Temp Investigations and getting the decos you need. Honestly, just keep doing the Temp quests, hopefully you will get lucky. Yes I know, RNG!!!
92hrs and I am complaining how my Equipment Skills didn't level-up, despite the fact that 3pcs of Odogaron set have the same Equipment Skill which is Critical Eye. They say that if you wear equipment with same Equipment Skill, the skill would level-up one by one. Sigh.
This question is for the guys that got the pierce deco out of tempered quests!! What hr tempered did you get yours in?? Melder hates me and my drops have been just shit!!! I just wanna know what hr tempered is the best to grind to get this deco
So, someone correct me here, the gem sets of 3 are predetermined based on the number of rolls you do, not the concoction of which decos you give up to get 3 new decos, right? Meaning, if I use Ritual 3, give up 1 deco worth 124 pts and get 3 decos (ex: poisoncoat position1, speed eating position2, artillerty position 3), then if i reset and try doing the ritual again with say 2 max might decos at 64 pts each, I should get the EXACT same 3 decos in the exact same position since I'm still rolling for the decos in table/roll 1? 2nd Q: the type of quest done to advance the deco rolls doesn't matter, correct? i.e if i do an investigation with tier 2 temps or a hornataur investigation or an optional quest it should still advance the table the same number (by 1)? 3rd Q: I've read that the quests follow a sequence: if you've rolled for 5 different deco sets in sequence let's say, and you do 1 quest, if you were to do ritual, you'd get the decos in set 2? then if you say did 2 quests in a row and came back to hub and then rolled the ritual you'd be getting gems in set 3? if you then did a 3rd quest and went back to hub, you essentially skipped deco set 1, 2 but then skipped both deco sets 3 and 4 if you were to then attempt the ritual, so you'd get decos in set 5? 4th Q: Also, if you did a quest, then returned to camp, THEN returned back to hub, the camp counts as another skip for a deco set, essentially getting you the set 3 decos if you were to roll ritual? Then if quests followed a 1-1-2 skip pattern, the camps count as another skip if you didn't return to hub, and returning from quest to hub would not add an extra 1 skip- if i were to say do sequence quest-camp, then quest-camp, then quest to hub, i'd essentially have skipped deco sets 1,2, 3, 4, and both 5 and a 6th unknown set getting to an entirely new unknown 7th set of decos?
As a Monster Hunter veteran (Played the series since MH3U/Tri), grinding is inevitable in monster hunter. But burnouts can be hard to avoid in games like these as well. Right now I am "suffering" from many burnouts playing monster hunter world. I don't know why I keep getting these. I love the series. What I do find that triggers these burnouts is constantly grinding out those decorations and gear. Don't just mindlessly grind away at the game and not doing anything else, because it's just going to make you relapse to that burnout stage. I *hate* burnouts, especially when it happens to one of my most favorite franchises ever. Even if I do something actually fun in monster hunter world, I get rather bored after a bit. I solo 90% of the time as I've been introduced to the franchise on Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate where the servers were forever offline, so I was always alone, so maybe that contributes to my burnouts? Bottom line: Don't grind too long (unless you absolutely love it, then fantastic). If you really want to roam around in the open world aspect of this game, then do it! Goof around a bit. Take a breather. Even give yourself challenges, like kill each monster in every zone without using any items. Something to mitigate that burnout. Burnouts *suck.*
Jeez. I'm 360 hours in. Have every achievement except the Giant Crown one. (But am close) 150 Low rank quests. 210 High Rank quests. 290 Investigations. 80 Arena quests. And I haven't even unlocked the option to augment gear yet and only have three S tier decorations.
I see so pretty much unless I really want to invest so much time into extra power, not worth it if you wanna enjoy the game for the main stuff and optional quests that unlock things. I am actually focusing on the optional questions, then go back to the story. At times i do find myself doing some investigating quests and event and special assignments, but all this extra stuff just adds more time. I actually wanna explore other MH games. So, I might come back to MHW after I complete the game to do all this extra stuff not to mention I don't have iceborne yet. Just another thing to look forward to at a later time.
I'm a PC MHW player and I'm at my I don't know 250-300 hours playtime, and I always get Elementless. I don't need to many of it, because technically, you will only need one. #sadlife And I get soooo many Dragon or Fire Res, Dragon or Fire Attack, Health Boost, Heavy Artillery, etc. (not really helpful) and got too many Poison & Para Func, which I may need in the future, BUT AGAIN, only need one of them. And I think 20+ Fortify jewels (I know it's still a few compared to others' mad gameplay). LOL! And the most recent jewel that I got was I think a Normal Shot and a Critical Eye. But no Attack (only 1 which was given, no Critical Boost, no Spread Shot, no Focus, no Artillery, no Peak Performance) So far the jewels I got which I usually use that are beneficial are, again Elementless, Maximum Might (1), and Tenderizer (1). Please come to me, good RNG, be kind, be merciful. Looking for more videos from you TheGameconomist. Keep it up!

RNG solely exists to screw you over. So any method to screw RNG back is justified imo.
The big issue is that if this was PVP game, I can't agree with that logic.

If you guys need any help with farming investigations (tempered) then my advice will be to look for Diablos (t2) and Kirin (t3). Once you have managed to get one of them just set up the quest and just follow them around. For Diablos I suggest you bring a ghillie mantle since he will attack you. I haven't done Kirin yet but I'm 90% sure you won't need a ghillie mantle since shocky pony gives no f***s. For food wise. I recommend the food perk Felyne researcher since it will help tremendously with your collecting. Happy hunting my fellow hunters! May you have some luck with your decoration farming the hard way.

Completing or failing a quest advances the melder table in a pattern of 2 steps, 1 step, 1 step. Though the only way to know in what part of the cycle you are on you would have test it by doing a quest and then melding to see how many steps it advances.

I'd also recommend four pieces of guild cross armor. It basically does this: For every reward, there's a chance for another reward (Around 40%). This applies to box rewards and breaking parts. The guild favour also seems to have chance to upgrade the box reward tiers as I have gotten some worn feystones and rare warped from T1 tempered and from my experience when hunting with pals and comparing loot. I end up getting 1 augment stone extra around 50% of time
So, I recommend 4 guild cross pieces in your farming gear. They are decent pieces without real resistance weakness, some alright skills and most importantly, they got good deco slots, so when you have reached a point in the game where you have good supply of defense gems but little to no offense gems, slot proper defense decos against the monsters you are hunting and you should be in clear when doing these bosses. Sure, you aren't speedrunning, but if you take the extended boss time as practice and.. ost importantly; A piece of entertainment, you'll do just fine

Sorry about that my dude, you don't deserve that. Tbh I used to have a negative mindset on save scumming too, but then I grew up and realized that all video games are is entertainment, and some people achieve their entertainment differently than others. Some like to play how the game is intended to play, while others take advantage of loopholes. Doesn't make either one wrong or right, just different playstyles. :)
Everyone keeps knocking the savescuming but as a player who has done countless tier 2 investigations only to get endless B jewels. Then turn around and randomly meld to get the same B jewels, it would be nice to take a peek behind the curtain and go for something substantial rather than the continued grind and gambling with no return.

Just and FYI, and someone may have mentioned this already. I actually did get a Hero’s Streamstone by completing a threat level 2 tempered Diablos Investigation.

I hope this expansion changes the whole decoration system, previous games had a MUCH easier system. And that melder is almost a complete waste of stones.

You can trigger cloud save in your room when you talk to the trailrider kitty go down to check for add ons and there you go! Cloud saved! To go on and offline easy just go to network settings in the xbox settings menu and just be extra careful everybody! Hope that helps ^_^

The reason theres a lower chance is Because in Threat lvl 3 missions you dont get the white feystones anymore, so they had to balance it out a little bit you still get better rewards from threat level 3 Tempered investigations over all and in the long run
Really enjoy your videos man. This one extra useful for me. I don’t have a lot of time to dig deep into Monster Hunter these days. You made it very plain and simple the reason you do t2 vs t3. The only thing I’m still not 100% on is if you’re not not melding out 3 decos worth then you’re wasting potential use of your streamstone right?

Megabakufun2 ye man just terrible what EXACTLY do you need it for again cause to my knowledge no skills are needed to beat any quest in the game let alone jewels? Having an optional post game grind to keep players interested is great game design if it doesn’t work for you great come back for new monsters ect, that being said having all the jewels to maximize your fucking build is a bit pointless when you have nothing to do with it nice try tho dood cheat to your hearts content it takes fucking ages and the gameplay is much better than playing the game normally lol then after you have everything you will want you have nothing to play for and you’ll do a few hunts and be bored as fuck. Meanwhile ima hunt monsters with friends have fun reloading your save file I hope you find tons of joy with it

You keep saying "Back-up to the cloud", when I think you're intending to say "Reload from the cloud". Don't want someone to accidentally reback-up their save after they've spent all their decorations

I felt so bad for my friends when I, as a bow main, used the elder melder for the first time and got the mighty bow jewel. Literally after just playing for 100 Hours, I got what bow mains with 600+ hours are still looking for. I feel so bad.

Both types of streamstones now drop from threat lv 2 investigations btw. I still don't see the data updated on kiranico, but I've gotten quite a few, and it was in one of the patches a long time ago (not the % though)

I just started and at level 39-40 I did a 4x Reward box tempered tier 2 capture: pink rathian and recieved a Hero's streamstone: Axe (switchaxe and CB). I guess it's fairly unlikely to get it since everything says its not possible to get one from T2 investigations. Ironically I was hoping for a Warrior's version which is more common, for my Diablos Ty 2 CB.

394 hours into the game... not a single Attack Jewel. Not a single Artillery or Capacity up Jewel (i mainly played Charge Blade for the first 250 hours or so). The game just hates me, and i hate it in return.
Don't want to use any save scumming to be honest, but my patience is running dangerously thin at this point.

I have 7 attk and 8 crit eye. But not from scumming. Never tried it. Lots of crit boost ones too. Just play normal and farm T2 Temp quests and T3. Look for the 4 purple rewards and keep doing them. More chance at rare deco.
By the time you did all the prep and then the sniping for that specific deco, you could be downing Temp Investigations and getting the decos you need. Honestly, just keep doing the Temp quests, hopefully you will get lucky. Yes I know, RNG!!!
92hrs and I am complaining how my Equipment Skills didn't level-up, despite the fact that 3pcs of Odogaron set have the same Equipment Skill which is Critical Eye. They say that if you wear equipment with same Equipment Skill, the skill would level-up one by one. Sigh.
This question is for the guys that got the pierce deco out of tempered quests!! What hr tempered did you get yours in?? Melder hates me and my drops have been just shit!!! I just wanna know what hr tempered is the best to grind to get this deco
So, someone correct me here, the gem sets of 3 are predetermined based on the number of rolls you do, not the concoction of which decos you give up to get 3 new decos, right? Meaning, if I use Ritual 3, give up 1 deco worth 124 pts and get 3 decos (ex: poisoncoat position1, speed eating position2, artillerty position 3), then if i reset and try doing the ritual again with say 2 max might decos at 64 pts each, I should get the EXACT same 3 decos in the exact same position since I'm still rolling for the decos in table/roll 1?
2nd Q: the type of quest done to advance the deco rolls doesn't matter, correct? i.e if i do an investigation with tier 2 temps or a hornataur investigation or an optional quest it should still advance the table the same number (by 1)?
3rd Q: I've read that the quests follow a sequence: if you've rolled for 5 different deco sets in sequence let's say, and you do 1 quest, if you were to do ritual, you'd get the decos in set 2? then if you say did 2 quests in a row and came back to hub and then rolled the ritual you'd be getting gems in set 3? if you then did a 3rd quest and went back to hub, you essentially skipped deco set 1, 2 but then skipped both deco sets 3 and 4 if you were to then attempt the ritual, so you'd get decos in set 5?
4th Q: Also, if you did a quest, then returned to camp, THEN returned back to hub, the camp counts as another skip for a deco set, essentially getting you the set 3 decos if you were to roll ritual? Then if quests followed a 1-1-2 skip pattern, the camps count as another skip if you didn't return to hub, and returning from quest to hub would not add an extra 1 skip- if i were to say do sequence quest-camp, then quest-camp, then quest to hub, i'd essentially have skipped deco sets 1,2, 3, 4, and both 5 and a 6th unknown set getting to an entirely new unknown 7th set of decos?

Ive gotten two hero stream stones in hr30 tempered azure rathalos runs... so you are able to get them there aswell
As a Monster Hunter veteran (Played the series since MH3U/Tri), grinding is inevitable in monster hunter. But burnouts can be hard to avoid in games like these as well. Right now I am "suffering" from many burnouts playing monster hunter world. I don't know why I keep getting these. I love the series. What I do find that triggers these burnouts is constantly grinding out those decorations and gear. Don't just mindlessly grind away at the game and not doing anything else, because it's just going to make you relapse to that burnout stage. I *hate* burnouts, especially when it happens to one of my most favorite franchises ever. Even if I do something actually fun in monster hunter world, I get rather bored after a bit. I solo 90% of the time as I've been introduced to the franchise on Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate where the servers were forever offline, so I was always alone, so maybe that contributes to my burnouts?
Bottom line: Don't grind too long (unless you absolutely love it, then fantastic). If you really want to roam around in the open world aspect of this game, then do it! Goof around a bit. Take a breather. Even give yourself challenges, like kill each monster in every zone without using any items. Something to mitigate that burnout.

150 Low rank quests.
210 High Rank quests.
290 Investigations.
80 Arena quests.
And I haven't even unlocked the option to augment gear yet and only have three S tier decorations.
Are the slots going to move over left to right by 1 or 2 or will all three move to the next different table(s) by 1 or 2 changing all three slots.
I see so pretty much unless I really want to invest so much time into extra power, not worth it if you wanna enjoy the game for the main stuff and optional quests that unlock things. I am actually focusing on the optional questions, then go back to the story. At times i do find myself doing some investigating quests and event and special assignments, but all this extra stuff just adds more time. I actually wanna explore other MH games. So, I might come back to MHW after I complete the game to do all this extra stuff not to mention I don't have iceborne yet. Just another thing to look forward to at a later time.
I'm a PC MHW player and I'm at my I don't know 250-300 hours playtime, and I always get Elementless. I don't need to many of it, because technically, you will only need one. #sadlife And I get soooo many Dragon or Fire Res, Dragon or Fire Attack, Health Boost, Heavy Artillery, etc. (not really helpful) and got too many Poison & Para Func, which I may need in the future, BUT AGAIN, only need one of them. And I think 20+ Fortify jewels (I know it's still a few compared to others' mad gameplay). LOL! And the most recent jewel that I got was I think a Normal Shot and a Critical Eye. But no Attack (only 1 which was given, no Critical Boost, no Spread Shot, no Focus, no Artillery, no Peak Performance) So far the jewels I got which I usually use that are beneficial are, again Elementless, Maximum Might (1), and Tenderizer (1). Please come to me, good RNG, be kind, be merciful.
