So he is clearly comfortable around gay people. He is capable of using rather quaint language to describe gender fluidity, which some people would find challenging today because he sometimes uses words that appear to reinforce certain stereotypes, and I get that. But in his case I believe its just the language he grew up with and he is as capable of using it on himself. For example, in his book he described the Rolling Stones as “a bunch of fairies from London”. I don’t think he’s homophobic, just content in his old linguistic ways.

True story, late summer 1997 in Edmonton, Alberta. Stones were touring, I think it was the Bigger Bang tour. They were leasing the Sultan of Brunei’s short stubby 747, painted just plain white. Edmonton has just finished construction of the new Windspear (hi-tech) auditorium and the Stones decided to hang around and use it for rehearsals. They stayed about 10 days I think it was. I flew into Edmonton for work in the surrounding area not knowing that they were staying so long. I spotted the Sultans stubby 747 when I arrived and had to drive outa town for work. Upon finishing work days later & heading out to the airport, I once again see the 747 & this time, I knew the Stones were flying out for their next gig, (I think it was to Wisconsin or Wyoming). So as I’m checking in I notice a section of the departure area is cordoned off & RCMP are standing around. I’m thinking to myself, wouldn’t that be cool if it was for the Stones. So I head over there & there’s a small gathering of people milling about. So I’m hanging around to catch the action. Sure enough, 10, 15 minutes later a Jaguar sedan pulls up & out comes Charlie Watts, dressed like a businessman in a sharp looking suit. His wife was with him and one or two others.He walks past & disappears through a door & is gone. So now the crowd is getting thicker and excited,( me too). I forget the exact order of how they all arrived but they did come separately in vans with their close entourages. I think maybe next it was Jagger coming through. I had one of those cheap Kodak instamatic disposable cameras (remember, this is ‘97). I don’t even think digital cameras were out yet. He’s dressed kinda normal, not too extravagant & rocknrollish.So I’m snapping away some photos of Jagger as he’s coming through, and wouldn’t you know it, I got about 3 or 4 shots left before I’m outa film. Damn! So Jaggers through the door & gone, (after waving at the increasing crowd gathering). I was lucky, I was there early enough & right up front to the roped off area. I must have been like 20 feet away & in a great unobstructed spot. A few minutes later it’s Ronnie pulling in & walking through with his people. And Ronnie is wearing the classic RocknRoll outfit, looking like a rock star, sunglasses, scarves, the whole ensemble. Totally cool seeing him like that. So he’s disappeared through the departure door and gone. I can tell ya, this was pretty damn exciting seeing these guys that close. Each walk through only lasted about 15-20 seconds but it was damn exciting. So where’s Keith?? Finally he pulls up & comes through the entrance, looking unmistakably like Keith. Keith was the only one, that broke stride and came over to sign autographs & hi5 people. A woman was there with a baby and Keith takes it in his arms & lifts it above his head & then back to the lady. He was there a good 90 seconds or so. But he was the coolest dude, to come over and chat with his fans. The others just rushed through and disappeared. Keith is absolutely the coolest, friendliest, most sincere and appreciative Stone there is. I was flying high as a kite after that experience. Saw each individual Stone from about 20 feet away, in Edmonton airport of all places! LOL. Days later I get my film back. One or two shots of Jagger as he’s coming through the entrance door & of course it’s over exposed. You can definitely see that it’s Jagger but it’s more of a silhouette shot. RIP Charlie. You were one fine dressed gentleman, rocknroll/jazz drummer we’ll never see the likes of again. No expectations.
Charlie was pretty shy. Keef is a whole other personality. He likes to BS with people. It's his nature. Mick was always more full of himself even though Charlie claimed Mick wasn't all ego. I think Keef would disagree. Good read LIFE by Keith Richards.

I was lucky enough to be able to watch your band close up from backstage and out front. It was a fabulous show . It was in Rotterdam. A friend of mine brought along a zermatis guitar that he hoped to get Ronnie to sign. He didn’t manage it and then accidentally left it in the hotel bar where we were staying. He did get it back. True story. A good friend of mine (now deceased) was from st Vincent. Jagger has had a house in mustique a nearby island in the grenadines for decade's. His daughter works for the company that runs the island and rents out their houses when they are not there. These people like mustique cause nobody bothers them. She has known him for years, but knows none of the stones music as she is a Christian. Mick comes down Christmas and Easter and that's it. She plays all kinds of instruments in her church and apparently practises with him cause she says he goes to another church on Christmas day. There is a small studio in the house with all kinds of instruments and he gave her access to use it anytime. So one year a few days before Christmas they were in there practicing and Mick landed. So he walked in and joined them. She was kinda upset because she doesn't like his voice. LOL. Or sometimes he comes in and she meets him walking down the road and doesn't have any money on him. So she gives him what she has in her pocket. (He always repays). When her father died she came up here, we were driving in the car and a stone's song came on the radio. She turned and said "wait is that Mick ". She has no clue to any stones music. Once she showed me a flier of an auction her church was holding. David bowie was listed as the auctioneer. He had a house in mustique also at that time. Phil Collins likes to spend hours hanging around the office cracking jokes.
My cousin's ex-boss works in Mustique and has met Mick several times and has visited the house Mick has there. This ex-boss has got some picks from there and he gave one to my cousin and she gave it to me as a present! On pick there is a text "Charlie Watts".
There is no way I would be able to have a face to face conversation with Keith like that. I would stutter my words and cry. I would really try my hardest to contain myself I just don’t think it would be in me. I fucking love the guy🔥🙌🏾❤️

Met Keith in Toronto and he is the coolest cat I’ve had the pleasure to share my almost 3/4 of my life with. Total gentleman and as down to earth as anyone can be.Funny and he actually put me at ease when I asked for a hug and picture with me. That photo was stolen and later found ripped in half and still hurts my heart to know that a jealous mean spirited person did that. Still have the memories though, that’s cool… R.I.P Charlie. when Keef lived in the Tower Records building many years ago I ran into him in from of the Hells Angels house. He asked me for a light. I said I didn't smoke. He used to leave clothes on the corner for homeless people to take.
Something like this happened to me after a Stones show just the other day. Can confirm Keith is super kind and takes time to make himself available to fans.

I once, walking across 6th ave and 57st, nyc he and his wife were Crossing the St. and i was so dumbfounded that it was him, i didn't say anything. Yet he looked at me and give me the nod of "it's all good lad" and thanks for not hassling me and my wife. Coolest cat ever.
One of my biggest regrets, not meeting my friend in the Red Lion in Barnes, the Stones we're recording at Olympic Sound Studios. He'd met Keef drinking alone the night before and said he'd arranged to meet him again that night. I said I'd go down but thought ' Ahh, he won't turn up what's the point'. Turns out he did and Keef bought the drinks all night. That was 30 years ago, but still wish I'd have gone.
Keef acts his usual confident bloke. No airs or false pretences.what you see is wtf you get. He's friendly acts very forthcoming with his fans notice more more so now. I got escorted out of a Stones concert at Madison Square Garden after finagling my way back stage in the dressing room area for a while. I saw the guys but mostly was impressed by the sexiest and best looking groupies I had ever seen, and there were dozens. ( around 1972 )

when Keef lived in the Tower Records building many years ago I ran into him in from of the Hells Angels house. He asked me for a light. I said I didn't smoke. He used to leave clothes on the corner for homeless people to take.

Something like this happened to me after a Stones show just the other day. Can confirm Keith is super kind and takes time to make himself available to fans.

Smoked at Laced Joint w/Keith back in 1986 @ Lonestar Roardhouse in NYC @ a Mick Taylor performance that Keith just showed up! What was in that JOINT was MONSTROUS and you could see it in his face 10 minutes later...I've a picture: Keith wearing a 'Buckwheat' T-Shirt 'O-TAY'..... tryin to play 'Cant you hear me knockin' and the $#!T Kicked In.......that was some FUNNY $#!T !

One of my biggest regrets, not meeting my friend in the Red Lion in Barnes, the Stones we're recording at Olympic Sound Studios. He'd met Keef drinking alone the night before and said he'd arranged to meet him again that night. I said I'd go down but thought ' Ahh, he won't turn up what's the point'. Turns out he did and Keef bought the drinks all night. That was 30 years ago, but still wish I'd have gone.
Saw the stones in Philly in 70s. Keith was wearing a sport coat and a purple tie with no shirt. Only keith could pull that off and look cool!

@@williammudloff5543 The Eagles are still touring and countless other bands whose bandmates have passed. The Stones tour is very successful and they've put alot of work into it. They're brilliant and they should continue for Charlie imo.
I got escorted out of a Stones concert at Madison Square Garden after finagling my way back stage in the dressing room area for a while. I saw the guys but mostly was impressed by the sexiest and best looking groupies I had ever seen, and there were dozens. ( around 1972 )
