All in all I'd say that GL does a great job of forcing you to accept the "read the comics like building a puzzle" rather than in a numerated order - several of these old TPBs are over 50$ so yeahhh... going through the available omnis instead :D
The man!
Thank you so much. I love you lmao
Roberts V i dont want to read everything could i read the 80th Anniversary 400 page Trade and then start Geof Johns' run?
@@johnspartan247 Every comic is a first one for someone :) I'm unsure of what the anniversary collects, but plenty of people happily just start with the three Johns omnis (with brightest day after the 2nd one if I remember correctly).
Ok thanks!
One step closer to the batman reading order :)
That would be a 5-parter, at least.
I'm thinking that would be a five parter even if I just focus on Batman and Detective.
You have no clue how pumped I get when I open the yt app and see a new 30 minute comprehensive reading order video. Thanks Uncanny Omar 🤘🏼
Thank you so much for the kind words.
I’m reading Geoff Johns’ run again as I watch this. I’m still astounded by it. It’s a masterclass in continuity.
Thank you so much.
Is his 2nd Omnibus as good as Vol. 1?
@@schmelzikasefaust8193 Absolutely!
Not knowing too much about the origins of the Green Lantern is it ok just starting with the Geoff Johns run? Bc. Tbh I don’t have a lot of money to buy the books mentioned before.
100% you can just start with Johns.
That’s actually an excellent starting point for GL.
You Are the best, Thank You so much!!! Green Lantern is my favourite character, remember reading my first issue back in 1996 and been a fan ever since! Now reading through Green Lantern The Road Back and I will read through it all!! Thank You so much for Your explanations and effort!!
Please, keep this kind of video in the channel, helps a lot!
I've been doing these for over a year now. :) So just look back and forward to more.
Geez, brother, I can only shake my head in amazement at the amount of time you're going to make/have made in compiling these episodes. Just when I think you can't surpass yourself with the reading order videos you go and blow me away again. Just saying "thanks" for doing these videos doesn't seem like enough, but, thank you. #OmarRules #YouDoLoveToTalkButWeLikeHearingWhatYouHaveToSay
Thank you sir, it's nice comments like these that keep me going.
He’s the best at these reading orders, for sure!
I remember asking for that :) thank you very much
Thank you for being patient.
OH SHIT, YES! This is an ambitious ass video! I jumped onto Green Lantern late around Blackest Night so this is gonna be crazy to see. Minty Corps unite!
Chandasouk I hope you enjoy these vids.
I wish that DC did a epic type titles by character like marvel is doing.
Completely agree with that.
They do it is called the golden/silver age they are in tradepaperback and off course in omibus
Thanks for doing this, Omar ! Been meaning to get into green lantern for a while now and this helps a ton !
Eric Odd thank you for watching and you are in for a treat.
That Green Lantern Corps series has to be my number one wanted Omnibus adaption. I have some of the paperbacks and read them as I first read Geoff Johns’s Green Lantern switching back and forth and man does it enhance the series. DC, make it happen. Let’s see these books in omnibus format. They’ll sell so fast.
It is amazing. GLC I want in omnibus format.
10:29 i really want a green arrow reading order
It will come. :)
I got all three Jeff johns omnibus on way to me soon 👍👍
You will love those.
Near Mint Condition thank you also blackestnight dam it’s a good run 👍👍
Thomas Garrison I would go for it mine seem to be fine 😊😊👍👍
@Thomas Garrison They are thick and the spine is tight. But other than that, no issues.
These videos are just great
Thank you so much.
Saving up currently for the 3 GL Geoff Johns Omnis!
Ashley those are amazing!
Great video Omar. This is exactly the video I needed. Have all three GL Omni, with Death of Superman and Infinite crisis. Still wrapped because I have no idea where to start. Thanks man. 👍
Thank you so much, Justin. Glad you enjoyed it.
Thanku so much for this ordering videos .. you are my encyclopaedia for getting into anything new i want to read in comics .. you are doing a great job my friend 😊
Another great video Omar. I respect that you stick by artists regardless of political opinion/affiliation (I pretty much disagree with his every opinion) but comics are an artistic medium and one that should look past the politics of the day for story/art! Look at Neal Adams and his hollow Earth theory heh (there are comics that are political and then there are politically charged artists who create non-political stories like dudes who wield green rings from pure willpower). Can’t wait to see the next two parts
Thank you so much for the kind words. I've always been able to seprate the artist from the art. So whatever personal believes they have, that's cool. Thank you again for watching.
Interesting reading order I started at the Geoff Johns omnibusses and mainly read those skipping the infinite crisis arc. It is indeed sad to see the great Corps stories of that time not collected in an omnibus especially since the trades are out of print and easily go for double the cover price.
Sigh..they have so much to collect in omni and they decide not to.
Green Lantern Corps (1986-1988) is the first series post-crisis.
No Green Lantern/Green Arrow? Are you only concentrating on post Crisis continuity? Thanks for including Zero Hour. An underrated classic.
No Silver Age Omnibus either
I've said it before on the channel my DC started with Crisis on Infinite Earths. I think I need to remind people newer to the channel on each video. I've tried, but it just wans't for me.
One book no one seems to mention that seems to take place around Infinite Crisis during the Rann-Thanagar War is Guy Gardner Collateral Damage. I'll be honest it's not a very good read or have very good art but if you want to know about Guys adventures during that time give it a read.
I would love to see a comprehensive look at reading about Superman,i'm struggling a lot trying to do it myself. Must admit i'm new to the comics guys and i'm just overwhelmed about how much stuff there is..
Aroth I promise it will be done. It will be on the Patreon poll. The trouble will be the work around my custom binds. Perhaps with pop ups of the trades.
Can you do a video or maybe include them in video 3, that includes red lanterns and all the other spin offs that are pretty much green lantern books but just not in name
Or at least everything after Johns Omni #1 lol
I concur, other spinoffs would be great
The man needs to sleep sometime! LOL #OmarBecomesAZombieFromNoSleepAndDoingVideos
I thought about adding them in there, but it would have been four parts. How about I include a short snippet when to read Sinestro and Red Lanterns in part 3. I think I could do that.
Near Mint Condition this is why you’re the best
Omar thank you very much for this reading order. First comic I picked to read was Green Lantern Rebirth (Geoff Johns) and so my favorite hero is Green Lantern and I am collecting the books slowly. I didnt know much about the Kyle run other than the obvious hints we get during Geoff Johns run. I will definitely check them out as I am interested in them. Also cant wait for part two (and maybe 3) in case there is runs I missed reading :D
Ahmed Mohsen thank you for the kind words and Geoff Johns really wrote the Definitive run of GL for me.
*looks up the “Gerard Jones thing”*........... yikes :(
Yeah, he deserves what he got.
I picked up the 3 Geoff Johns omnis a few years ago but still haven't started them (partially because I bought a lot of other comics over the past three years or so). And with the size of those omnis, diving into them has always been a bit daunting to me. Green Lantern has always intimidated a bit, what with all the lore and mythos. However, that's also what makes me want to read it badly! I hope to start soon, finally.
I hope you enjoy it and let me know how you feel about it.
Why buy books and not read them?
So what if I just started reading one of those series and none of the others will I be super confused or do I literally need to get them all to enjoy the story
Its frustrating the omnibus goes rebirth, recharge then ongoing GL.
The art is fantastic 👍👍
I’m finally getting around to watching this one. Excellent job as always Omar! I too am a huge Ethan Van Sciver fan and your channel and his are my two favorites on UA-cam. I also share most of his world views so don’t hate me for that! 😎
Thank you my friend. :) I don't hate anyone, my friend. We dont' have to agree on everything..just that Chris Claremont is the greatest comic writer ever!
Near Mint Condition Claremont is pretty awesome! Maybe not my #1 but he is top 5!!!! 😎
Thanks Omar. It's videos like yours that make it easier to track down the necessary books, because we now know what to look for. I look forward to your next 2 videos mate. 😊
Peter Xuereb thank you so much, my friend! I’m glad you enjoy these.
16:39 "This is definitely one to keep an eye on" (or "keep an Ion?") :)
TJM060765 hahahah. You get it!
Geoff Johns's run is very splendid. I highly enjoy Venditti's work too. Sinestro by Cullen Bunn is so underrated.
Martin The Collector probably cause most of his other DC runs were trash like Aquaman and lobo
@@dankzilla981 Lol, I honestly skipped those but I bet they're not much fun. I've loved many Cullen Bunn stories since I read his Deadpool stuff years ago.
Hey Omar, do you think if we started a petition and got enough sigs that we could convince DC to print Vol 3 of the Kyle Rayner trades or an omnibus?
I’m with you. Please DC continue the trades! DC is so bad about not finishing what they’ve started. 😡
_ Zaldivar I say what would be the harm in it. Let’s start one!
@@NearMintCondition I'm game! I don't think it has to be a long complicated petition. Short and sweet and with enough sigs would probably do the trick. I know you have a contact in Marvel's collected editions department. Do you know/talk to anyone at DC?
DC needs to also finish collecting Chuck Dixon's Robin and Peter David's Supergirl in trades. So frustrating that they seem to have dropped them. :(
_ Zaldivar if you start one I’ll share it on my comic book Instagram page. I have a fairly big following so it could get the ball rolling
Thank you so much for this!
Thank you so much for watching.
“Hurts to look at this” at the Kyle book. I felt that :,(
Yeah man, rough.
You missed the Mark Waid Flash vol. 2 which has a green lantern crossover. Insignificant in the scope of things but it was the last vestige of a silver-age green lantern flash team up before parallax sent green lantern into the grim and gritty era.
Just finished this part of the reading order and it's so fun reading all this genuinely felt like each story got better and better, perfect way to jump onto comics
👏👏👏👏👏❤️🤩👍👍
yoo mr willy where you coment ,
thank you soooo much for this video, green lantern is my favorite super hero. and this will for sure help me go in to depth with the universe of GL since a have never read a GL comic book
How important do you feel the books between Final Night and GJ First Omnibus are? It sounds like they may be pretty important to Kyle Rayner's position in the GJ's run. 11) - 14) seem hard to find and/or expensive for what they are.
You're my MVP with this video!! For real!!
I have to say, looking at this Green Lantern omnibus I’m just blown away by the art and the colouring. It is fantastic. Truly mesmerizing. It is a case of an amazing story with amazing art. They compliment each other so well. So when I look at Geoff Johns’s Flash omnibus’s with Scott Kohlins art work I really feel the series is let down in it’s visuals. The art is far from my favourite. It really takes me a while to not notice how much it disappoints me. It’s not terrible art. But it isn’t great. And with the quality of Johns’s work, the art really should be great.
I completely agree.
We need some off this green in omnibus for mate looks like good stuff 👍👍
We really do need more of GL in Omni format.
Amazing work dude You are awesome
You are awesome for watching!
I really just want to start The Geof Johns Omnibus. I've read Emerald Dawn, Emerald Knights and Death and Return of Superman. I have this Omnibus I just haven't read it yet. I liked the art so much I just had to buy it. Anyways if I did that do you think it would have me totally lost? I already missed a bunch in between Dawn and Knights anyways lol.
You completely can read it without being lost.
@@NearMintCondition thank you!
They need to make all of these into omnibuses.
Excellent job! I loved this video.
Boy, I’m missing several books.
Time to go online searching....
Don’t wait too long for part 2 😊
Kathy Walker thank you so much and happy hunting. I say in two weeks time part 2 will be out.
Thanks for the Green Lantern reading order. Now I know what Green Lantern books to get. It helps to know in what order to read them in. Looking forward to the part 2.
Thank you so much for the kind words and part two will come soon. :)
Awesome, looking forward to part 2.
Final Night is one of my personal favorites.
It's very underrated.
I would love to pick up this Omnibus! But idk if I could get into that much GL!
I love me some Geoff Johns!
I have the No Fear TPB
But that cover is amazing!
Awesome vid!
No Fear is part of this omnibus.
Great video! Can´t wait for the batman reading order o/
What differs in your views omar what did he say?
With EVS? Just don’t see eye to eye with the way the world works. But I still think he’s a great artist. Don’t have to agree with everyone in life.
Omar you are my hero, I have been using a website to tell me continuity from Green Lantern Rebirth onward.
Just finished Brightest Day and have the 3rd John's omni.
Even read the Ron Marz Ion trades because it was recommended (I remember you being a Kyle Rayner fan, so I wanted to show him some love)
You are too kind, my friend. Love Kyle and his years as Green Lantern. I hope you enjoy those Johns' omnis.
@NearMintCondition I have a question, I want to jump in with the 3 Geoff johns omnibus AND I want to read Infinite Crisis, Infinite crisis goes in between GL Omni 1? I'm a little confused here. 😂 Thanks if somebody can answer me and clear my doubts.
Great video
Thank you my friend.
Hey Uncanny did I miss something? You displayed the Return and Death of Superman Omnibus, where does this fit into the comprehensive reading order?
Would you be kind enough to do a similar video for Aqua Man and Super Man? Would you also do a review for the WildCATS absolute book?
kytim89 I can do those sometime yes.
Hey mate. Just wanna say really love your videos and thank you for all the hard work you do, to find the right order for us. Really helpful when you're trying to catch up with it all
Please do a reading order for Superman.
I love these comprehensive reading order videos btw. These are so helpful. Thanks.
Thank you. That will go up against X-men reading order in March.
Dc makes it so confusing
I would've put the Silver Age Green Lantern stuff in here along with the Green Lantern/Green Arrow Hard Traveling Heroes.
So make that video. I'll watch it :)
For me, my DC starts with Crisis on Infinite Earths. I've tried the Golden and Silver Age, but that was it for me. So as much as I love Neal Adam's book I think adding it to the reading order would have confused people,, because it doesn't fit into the new earth. Even though they do so many flashbacks to it.
You can see as time becomes more modern that it's less story and more full page visuals, a bit like some of the movies nowadays too, too much CGI, not enough thoughtful story and character building. Not to say some of it isn't great, it is. I started reading 70/80s comics and slowed down mid/late 90s and when I picked DC bk up again not so long ago it was a shock just how little was in the books, yes visuals fantastic, but it's becoming more "digital" artwork than storytelling at its best. Like I said not all of it is like that though.
I've recently went bk and started with Batman as my knowledge was all over the place, so decided to start with Year One and it's great, some stuff I knew, some I didn't, hence my broken knowledge, it's like that with most DC characters. Once I'm up to date with Batman, I'll prob go GL/Superman/Flash. I've read some of each over the years, but will be gd to fill up my knowledge more linearly. I'll check out some early stuff too, but post crisis I'm more interested in, up to Rebirth and more modern times.
All the best DC fans old and new alike 👍🏽✌🏽
theres a lot of good stories from before but imo u should start at emerald dawn/ emerald twilight and read kyles run then into zero hour then all the way to rebirth and through hals run and the sinestro corps war blackest night and final crisis
Dude, Emerald allies is absolutely a Green Lantern book! It starts Kyle's relationships with the new generation of heroes like Wally and Connor setting up newest iterations of Hard Traveling heroes and The legacy Flash GL teamup. Especially the Wally relationship which is later explored in the Morrison JLA run!
I left it off because I seem to recall that it had more Green Arrow issues in it. Regardless it will be in my Green Arrow reading order and I did point out where to read it. :) But good call on the Wally and Connor team up.
@@NearMintCondition Yeah, I just see it as Kyle learning about his generation of heroes inheriting their mantles and their legacy team ups.
It's a shame we'll never get more of the Gerard Jones collected era of GL just because of what he did. I mean I'm sure the artists and other creatives on that book other than him would enjoy it being collected as well as the fans.
What did he do??
@@ashleyn1979 He was jailed for owning and distributing a lot of kiddy porn.
@@No8Named8Shadow omg wtf !!!
Fuck that guy. If a reprint means money for him, I'd say too bad. But, if he doesn't get anything for it, I don't get the problem.
What they can do is do what they did with those Flash books. Leave his name out and don't pay him anything. I don't see why punish the other creators that worked hard on the books too.
Kyle's my guy too man!!
Yes! Great character
28:40 ????
I've noticed that this is the second video where the processing messed up after hours of uploading. I guess it creates a glitch.
HI Uncanny, I'm very new with the whole Green Lantern story, and I had to watch many video's to understand the beginning of Geoff John's Volume 1. By watching your video, I'm still a little confused? At exactly what chapter do I start reading Infinite Crisis Omnibus? Wanted Chapter One? Thank you
I think I got this figured out.
I’ll read Infinite Crisis and than go back reading Green Lantern at Flight Delay
Kyle is also my favourite GL as well.
My Man!
Anyone else's shelf has most of their space taken up by the 3 Geoff Johns omnibus?
I can see that.
Hey Omar, so helpful
Thank you so much for the kind words.
Can you just read the omnibus without the tpbs? Most of them are out of print and i don’t want to waste money. Will they ruin some experience or something?
You can completely read the omnis. Without anything else. For sure.
So if would buy the 3 Green Lantern omnibi by Geoff Johns, will I get the whole story/arc? Or do I need to read any other books or omnibi? I’m sorry if these are dumb questions but I’m kinda new to comics, thanks a lot for your channel, you’ve helped me a lot so far haha!
No such thing as a dumb question. I say you are completlely 100% good with those three omnis. However, you will get hooked and want more. Come back here when you are. :)
Near Mint Condition I think I’m going to buy those three omni’s and then the DC rebirth event to Doomsday Clock and Watchmen of course. Have you read Doomsday clock yet and what do you think about it? And do you think I’ll be okay with those 3 omni’s to understand what is going on in DC Rebirth or do I need to read something completely else to understand DC Rebirth?
Nothing really leads to Rebirth, perhaps the Last Days of Superman and Lois and Clark
@@NearMintCondition O ok, so I'll understand DC Rebirth with just reading The Last days of Superman and Lois and Clark? And will I understand just Green Lantern omnibus volume 1 or does it become clearer with reading volume 2 and 3?
This is great. Thanks a bunch. Geoff Johns run made me a fan of Kyle and have been wanting to pick up more stories of Kyle. Can’t wait to see part 2.
Really? I don't remember him using Kyle all that much.
No8Named8Shadow maybe it was something else I read that had Kyle in that made me really like the character.
Coool!!! I friking looove Green Lantern!!!
Same here!
Hi these are really helpful - I have some questions. 1) Where does Crisis on Infinite Earths fit into this timeline wise? I have seen some places say it's set before the 90s GL comics 2) Are Crisis on Infinite Earths, Infinite Crisis and Final Crisis all separate stories or are they the same thing? DC sure likes a crisis haha 3) Are there any missing issues in the omnis? I have seen some places say that GL #19 is missing from one, around the Sinestro War period, and that Final Crisis: Red Lanterns might be missing in the run up to Blackest Night? Are either of these actually missing and if so does it affect things that much? Thanks btw, just started collecting some of these because I really want to go through this. Started my DC reading with Alan Moore's DC Universe the other day.
2:04 -> 3:24 -> 3:33 -> 4:34 (4:40) -> 5:13 -> 7:06 ->
SO glad to get the confirmation that the GL Geoff Johns Omnibus 1 has the same material previously collected in the “complete collections” trades, as I got 2 and 3 recently
Hal Jordan is my favorite
I just finished the first Geoff Johns’ omnibus. It’s solid gold!
And it's about to get better with Blackest Night.
@@NearMintCondition Can't wait. Although i don't want to rush through them too much. So i'm reading something else before the 2nd omnibus :)
Can you do swamp thing
I know you love the crab mask probably, but I think the Jim Lee piping costume is awesome. It's my favorite of Kyle's.
BK's Bullets big fan of that Jim Lee design too. But Crab mask all the way
Is it worth reading the missing issues digitally or is it ok to only read what is collected?
Also can you make a video of Superman Reading order plzzzzzz
Please add Red Lantern stuff (like it if you agree)
I will make quick notes on where to read those in part three.
DC started at Crisis and ended at New 52. (Mostly)
This made me wish Jim Lee drew everything. If not him, then Marc Silvestri, Todd McFarlane, J. Scott Campbell, Brett Booth, Whilce Portacio, or Ian Churchill.
I know. I’m with you. Except for Churchill, never grew on me.
@@NearMintCondition he was great in his Image days. His art has changed a little. I would buy this if it was done by Jorge Jimenez or Jim Cheung. They have such interesting styles. Art Thibert is good too. Why is CheapGraphicNovels always sold out of stuff you recommend that I wanna buy?
@@NearMintCondition oh, I forgot. If Joe Madrieuera drew this, I'd get it ASAP!!!
emerald dawn i wiil fine that trade paperbag first chapter reboot hal jordan 1986, thanks my man mr uncany ,
Thank you so much for watching.
Should I read the uncollected issues between 8 to 46
Is parallax in any of the geoff johns run?
Rebirth and Sinestro War.
Can I start with Geoff Johns run?
You 100% can, Terry!
Hey Mint big question how am i supposed to know the table of contents in the omnibus i have the first one and assuming “what it collected “was the order of the book is that true for example it collects GREEN LANTERN rebirth 1-6 ,GREEN LANTERN CORPS:Recharge 1-5 etc.. will the first 5 issue of this book be REBIRTH then RECHARGE THE NEXT 5 issues then so on? Its kind of hard to figure out what issue your on in the omni
Yeah its super annoying imo. I'm reading through it for the first time and have the same gripe with no TOC. I do believe that the order on the dust jacket is the order of the issues in the book.
would you recommend reading crisis on infinite earths before all these?
Absolutely I would.
Ok so what if you’re having a hard time finding all the TPB. Can you just jump into the Geoff John Omni without feeling completely lost?
You completely can.
In which editions do we have the return of all the lanterns and guardians killed by Hal in Emerald Dawn? I mean, at least the explanation of their return.
Tks!
Most in Rebirth, but so many stories haven’t been collected yet.
@@NearMintCondition It would be really nice if DC collected the Hal Jordan Parallax arc, destruction and return of the GLC. I feel like it's pretty important and enriching to the Johns' run.
12:23
Judd Winick wrote the best eXiles stories!!
Hellz yeah! I loved his run.
