Little correction: Second Chances and Dark Knight Detective vol 1 should be right before The Cult. The Long Halloween introduces Dick and happens during year three/four, it's a bit weird to put that story *after* Jason's introduction in Second Chances during year nine/ten. Also, Tales of The Demon should be after Dark Victory, as Dick is already Robin in it.

Wow. You covered so many eras then over a big period of time. And now coming up to the more modern stuff will have three videos. This was fantastic - can’t wait for the rest, but I will.
Omg I used to own the story at the start of the dark Knight detective vol 2 with the Ventriloquist. I have been looking for it for a while and you just opened a book and it appeared. Man I feel like crying as the story fascinated me so much as a kid.
Excellent, work Omar. I've been on a Batman kick lately(Specifically Nightwing which your video was awesome. I've picked up all of Chuck Dixion's stuff on Nightwing) and I'm definitely going to pick some of this up. I love Loeb and Sale's work with Long Halloween(I have the omnibus). I think for me, I enjoy Batman early years because I always love the idea of seeing how a superhero figures out how they go about defending the city. It is why hot take; I actually like a lot of origin stories, like the MCU films. Formulaic as they can be. My favorite Batman comic is a tossup between Hush and Gotham Central. Yeah, I know Hush gets a lot of naysayers, but I'm a sucker for Jim Lee's art and I like Loeb's writing. Also, I love Gotham Central because Brubaker and Rucka are on it and giving me the Shield with Gotham city is awesome.
Feel free in the next videos to do the Absolute and Deluxe suggestions for certain story arcs. Crazy that you need 4 videos for the Bat reading order! So Much BATMAN!!!!! Love it!
This rips! Thank you, Omar. Dreaming of the day when we get a Superman reading order as well. PD: didn't know about the Moench/Jones trades. I'm going to get that asap
Your comprehensive reading order videos are a great public service. Keep up the good work! I'm also a Jim Aparo fan but I prefer his earlier Brave and the Bold work, where he did his own inks and colors. Comparing that to the art in Death in the Family is like knight and day. :) I'm also a fan of the Grant/Breyfogle era. It's the most underrated Batman creative team. I've been reading Batman since the 1970s, around the time of O'Neil/Adams's "The Joker's 5 Way Revenge" but for me the pinnacle of monthly Batman teams is Grant/Breyfogle ,for both quality and quantity of work. Between your video and the "Every Omnibus" videos Gem has been dropping, this week has given us a good video "haul."
I just read two of the stories by Doug Moench and Kelley Jones, about Killer Croc and Scarecrow, in an old German edition of Batman Special from October 1997 which I had found in a second-hand bookshop in my street, and thanks to your vid I found out about the two collected editions and ordered them at once since I love Kelley Jones's horror take on Batman (Batman: Vampire is one of my favourite Batman books), and at least the story about Killer Croc was also very well written. The first volume of the collected editions was out of print but I found an offer at ebay that was acceptable. These two volumes will make a great addition to my collection. Thanks again for all the great information and I am looking forward to Part 2.
back in the 90's Knightfall was my introduction to comics. My little sister (she's 20) is collecting all the Jason Todd and Tim Drake stories, she has a thing for Robin's. I was in college when Cataclysm came out and wasn't reading mainstream comics, so I'm really looking forward to those Omnibus!
I'll be getting that omnibus of No Man's Land for sure. Looks good. A lot of the other stuff I can read on DC Universe. Good review, Omar on my favorite comic book character. This helps a lot for me to catch up on some Batman reading. Great review. Cheers!

It is very interesting that you had the opportunity to decide Robin's fate. You were part of comic book history, Omar! Cool! Saludos desde Puerto Rico.
Cool list Omar, I would also include Matt Wagner's 2 miniseries "Batman & the Mad Monk" and "Batman & The Monster Men" - essentially modern updates of some of the earliest Golden Age Batman stories which take place between Year One and Long Halloween - they were recently released in the "Legends of the Dark Knight: Matt Wagner" hardcover Looking forward to the rest of the reading orders!

I'm sure it's already been asked, but is there ever going to be an Omni that collects Contagion and Legacy as a pre road to Road to No Man's Land? I just started collecting omnis, mainly because of NML and other mid to late 90s Batman comics.

Thank you so much for this Omar! I had been purchasing the Dark Knight Detective and Caped Crusader TPBs based on your videos recommending them earlier this year, and am having a blast re-reading so many of my old Batman stories. Now after watching this video, I just had to pop off to CGN & ebay to fill in several holes in my Bat-library --- Curse of the Demon, Year Two, the two Moench/Kelley volumes & the J.H. Williams HCs, as well as the Contagion and two Legacy TPBs. Let's hope that one issue from Cataclysm (553) is included in the upcoming Road to No Man's Land Omnibus (no whammies no whammies...) I am very much looking forward to Part 2!
@NMC / To: Uncanny Omar. Question: Did DC ever Publish an Omnibus or OHC of the “Elseworlds” Red Rain Trilogy..? / Btw, I relate to your comment about Jim Aparo. He was always a consummate pro. It was his art that drew me in to read “Brave and the Bold”, and “A Death in the Family”. Beautiful solid work, every issue, on every single page. My favorite late 1970’s early 80’s artist. Then came, George Pérez. Awesome stuff! Great years!
Wow Omar- just wow ! Four Batman installments ! One of my favorites is Haunted Knight for the Scarecrow and Mad Hatter stories , with the art they are simply superb.
402/403 are NOT pre-crisis. Like you said, they retcon Jason Todd. 400 was the last pre-crisis Batman issue. 401 is post, about Magpie, but isn't collected..
Yes, thank you for adding that. I got my words messed up and caught it in the replay. I meant pre Year One. Surprised they didn’t start with Magpie as she shows up throughout those late 80s issues.
Jim Aparo is my default Batman too and I’m a huge Neil Adams fan who grew up on the 70’s. Aparo used to draw Batman’s cape with the big sweeping style.
22:49 "Because of the success of Superman: The Death of Superman--" One thing to note is that the creators of Batman: Knightfall have said in interviews that the storyline was in development for several years already and they didn't know that The Death of Superman was going to happen at the same time.
That’s not the tune they were singing back when it came out. Honestly it makes sense: death of Ollie, Wonder Woman depowered and replaced by Artemis, Guy Gardener Warrior. They wanted extreme changes because they thought these changes would move books.
Thank you for this amazing list! I am super interested in reading the Legends of the Dark Knight series that started in '89. What would be the best spot to slot those in here?
Me : Reading comics from the pre-crisis era , cronologically Every comprehensive look : Starts at 1986 ( post-crisis ) :( I'll get to your guides really soon though , currently at 1984
:) At least with those pre Crisis era, they've done an amazing job collecting the Golden Age of characters and some Silver age. Bronze age though, needs some love.
Good reading order. I feel that Batman Year 3 through the end of Legacy Volume 2 is the best run published. I read Cataclysm through No Man's Land and it feels so different; like they just ignore all the subplot developments leading into it from after Legacy. Good review.
As someone who has been looking to get into comics, and Batman, I don't understand the collection of books and omnibuses. I was thinking about going in chronological order with Detective Comics (not from the very beginning), and I don't understand why some of the omnibuses are comprised of a list of cherrypicked issues. Some from different Detective Comics issues and various Batman titles. I'm assuming that they follow particular stories in chronological order? I'd hate to get a book that seemingly jumps around between different stories.
I love that you did a Batman Reading Order Omar! This is my first chance to watch it though. Also, just in case you weren't aware or forgot, the 2012 Knightfall trades collected KnightQuest: The Crusade for the first time, but the Omnibus was the first time that KnightQuest: The Search had been collected, prior to the 25th anniversary trade paperback releases. I had to look that up, because I was pretty sure that the Omnibuses had come out after the 2012 thick three volume trades, but I didn't know for sure.
@@NearMintCondition You're welcome. At this point there's so many editions of Knightfall that it's hard to remember what was collected in each edition. Lol.
Volume 1 goes for no less than a hundred buckaroos rn. Not pulling the trigger on that cause 150$ is to much for the set. Sucks cause moench/jones was the first Batman run I’ve ever read.
While your DC universe starts post-crisis, I’d love to see a video talking about some of the classic Bronze Age stories/runs, especially by Denny O’Neil.

This was fantastic - can’t wait for the rest, but I will.
Thank you so much for watching and the kind words.
YESSSSS! It's finally happening! Thanks Omar. I have been trying to compile a reading order of my own so this will help me reorganise my list.
You're so welcome!
Ibdeed😊
Great episode Omar. You never disappoint.
Thank you, my dood!
Omg I used to own the story at the start of the dark Knight detective vol 2 with the Ventriloquist. I have been looking for it for a while and you just opened a book and it appeared. Man I feel like crying as the story fascinated me so much as a kid.
I really hope you find it again and it brings me so much joy that you immediately knew what it was.
@@NearMintCondition I ordered the trade right away as I really wanna read the rest of those stories!
Looking to add more Batman books in my collection in the future. Really helpful video!
I’m glad I could help.
I still think Hush is one of the best. BEST Batman stories. GC really is in a world of its own.
Feel free in the next videos to do the Absolute and Deluxe suggestions for certain story arcs. Crazy that you need 4 videos for the Bat reading order! So Much BATMAN!!!!! Love it!
I promise I will. :)
Keep up the great work, I enjoy your videos!👍
DAMN 1 of 4. This is great!
It all begins here.
Omar! You are awesome for doing this. You put so much effort in your video's and that's why I will always keep coming back for more :)
Thank you so much. For coming back too. :)
I was actually just wondering when you'd do a Batman reading order this morning. Crazy
Look no further :)
Thank you! I’ve been looking for the reading order for months!
You’re welcome 😊
This is so freaking needed! Thanks Sir!!!
Thank you so much for watching.
Been waiting for this for ages man, keep up the good work 👍 looking forward to part 2
Hope you enjoyed it!
This rips! Thank you, Omar. Dreaming of the day when we get a Superman reading order as well.
PD: didn't know about the Moench/Jones trades. I'm going to get that asap
You are welcome.
We need a Red Hood reading order!!!
Ha! knight and day :)
Thank you so much for watching and the kind words. I'm a huge fan of those Moench and Jones books.
Some of those out of print editions are SOOOOO expensive right now.
back in the 90's Knightfall was my introduction to comics. My little sister (she's 20) is collecting all the Jason Todd and Tim Drake stories, she has a thing for Robin's. I was in college when Cataclysm came out and wasn't reading mainstream comics, so I'm really looking forward to those Omnibus!
I really enjoyed that time of Batman.
Thanks Omar! Much needed clarity to DC's Batman collected edition chaos.
You are very welcome. Thank you for the kind words and watching.
I’ve only waited half my life for this !!!
I hope it didn’t disappoint.
Near Mint Condition definitely did not! Can’t wait for part 2 !!
:)
I'll be getting that omnibus of No Man's Land for sure. Looks good. A lot of the other stuff I can read on DC Universe. Good review, Omar on my favorite comic book character. This helps a lot for me to catch up on some Batman reading. Great review. Cheers!
Thank you so much for the kind words. Seriously. :)
Brilliant, amazing run through as always! Cant wait for part 2! Definitely think I need to upgrade my knightfall to omni's now :-)
Thank you so much for the kind words.
Today I found a copy of Second Chances in perfect shape for cover price. Thanks to your videos I snagged that boy boy up. So excited to add it to my ever growing Collection of Trades and Hardcovers.
What a great find!
Where?!
@@7OnAtuesday at a local comic shop in Greenville SC it was the only one he had back then. I was excited to find it for cover.
@@glenclark8696
So lucky, I'm trying to find that and caped crusader ones
Today I found a copy of second chances from my LCS at cover price! When I paid they gave me 20% off! If had never watched this video then I would have never known about that trade. Thank you for all the info you put together!
This is the content us newbies NEED! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
It is very interesting that you had the opportunity to decide Robin's fate. You were part of comic book history, Omar! Cool! Saludos desde Puerto Rico.
Muchas gracias, hermano. We decided and the little guy came back.
@@NearMintCondition Yeah, that's how comics are 😄
My favorite UA-cam Video so far and I’m only half way through
Thank you so much.
Cool list Omar, I would also include Matt Wagner's 2 miniseries "Batman & the Mad Monk" and "Batman & The Monster Men" - essentially modern updates of some of the earliest Golden Age Batman stories which take place between Year One and Long Halloween - they were recently released in the "Legends of the Dark Knight: Matt Wagner" hardcover
Looking forward to the rest of the reading orders!
Thank you so much for watching and the kind words. And I almost brought those stories up, but then decided against it.
Impressive, most impressive.
Jaw dropping 😱.
Thank you so much.
During Knightfall Bruce was looking for Jack Drake and Shondra not the cure for his back.
Well I can’t get Into every amount of detail. I open up that Shondra door and then I’ll have to talk about every one of his ladies. Jack I was saving for a Robin walkthrough. But I know what you meant.
I'm sure it's already been asked, but is there ever going to be an Omni that collects Contagion and Legacy as a pre road to Road to No Man's Land? I just started collecting omnis, mainly because of NML and other mid to late 90s Batman comics.
That's some pretty awesome Batman collection you got there Omar !! I think you should also check out Batman & Robin Advebtures. That is a great series that continues afrer the animated show !!
It is, did they wrap it up in collected edition?
@@NearMintCondition I dont know about collected omnis but I did see 3 trade vol. paperbacks on Amazon tho !!They also got the Batman Gotham Adventure trade paperback volumes which is the prequel. Also how do you like the new batsuit ?? I meant the blue one made by Alfred before he died !!
I need all that early Tim Drake material!
I hope one day. We get them.
I need any and all things Chuck Dixon.
@@NearMintCondition people should get omnibus editions of everything.even though its more expensive .also what is your top five recommended comics of all time
Thank you so much for this Omar!
I think that might have been a misprint. So I hope that it does contain 553.
25:18 I have the recent trades for the Knightfall trilogy and they do not include Sword of Azrael.
Sigh...
Near Mint Condition It is annoying that they don’t collect it, but how necessary is it really?
Wow Omar- just wow ! Four Batman installments ! One of my favorites is Haunted Knight for the Scarecrow and Mad Hatter stories , with the art they are simply superb.
Yes! Those stories are so great.
Nice! Been waiting for this
Hope you enjoyed it!
402/403 are NOT pre-crisis. Like you said, they retcon Jason Todd. 400 was the last pre-crisis Batman issue. 401 is post, about Magpie, but isn't collected..
👏
Yes, thank you for adding that. I got my words messed up and caught it in the replay. I meant pre Year One. Surprised they didn’t start with Magpie as she shows up throughout those late 80s issues.
@@NearMintCondition It's a bloody shame. At least 'Tec starts with the proper first post-Crisis issue.
Jim Aparo is my default Batman too and I’m a huge Neil Adams fan who grew up on the 70’s. Aparo used to draw Batman’s cape with the big sweeping style.
22:49 "Because of the success of Superman: The Death of Superman--"
One thing to note is that the creators of Batman: Knightfall have said in interviews that the storyline was in development for several years already and they didn't know that The Death of Superman was going to happen at the same time.
That’s not the tune they were singing back when it came out. Honestly it makes sense: death of Ollie, Wonder Woman depowered and replaced by Artemis, Guy Gardener Warrior. They wanted extreme changes because they thought these changes would move books.
It's a very helpful video for me because I want to start reading Batman comics. I'm a guy from Uruguay, a small South American country. Thank you.
bout to binge all four parts!!!!
Thanks for showing the recent Tales of the Demon hardcover has the original coloring as previous collections had some questionable re-coloring.
I love it!
Amazing video
Would love reprints of dark Knight detectives and caped crusaders
needs to do an update for this as some of the books are going for ridiculous prices now.
Thank you for this amazing list! I am super interested in reading the Legends of the Dark Knight series that started in '89. What would be the best spot to slot those in here?
If Second Chances reintroduces Jason Todd, should it come after Dark Victory?
Dark Victory is a retcon flashback so you can read it whenever.
Yes! Yes! The dark Knight finally rises. I am indebted to you Omar SIR.
You are so welcome and thank YOU for watching.
Me : Reading comics from the pre-crisis era , cronologically
Every comprehensive look : Starts at 1986 ( post-crisis ) :(
I'll get to your guides really soon though , currently at 1984
:) At least with those pre Crisis era, they've done an amazing job collecting the Golden Age of characters and some Silver age.
A lot of comics to collect! But with some points I disagree like The return of the Dark Knight or the Deamon. But nice video :)
Definitely get a Robin reading order please!!!!
I’ll put it up in the poll sometime later.
I wish they would make an animated series showing all of this
I love that you did a Batman Reading Order Omar!
The Search, that's right. Thank you for correcting me.
@@NearMintCondition You're welcome. At this point there's so many editions of Knightfall that it's hard to remember what was collected in each edition. Lol.
Two years later and still waiting for a reprint or, better, an omnibus of Batman by Moench and Jones 🥲
Volume 1 goes for no less than a hundred buckaroos rn. Not pulling the trigger on that cause 150$ is to much for the set. Sucks cause moench/jones was the first Batman run I’ve ever read.
Those dark night detective and caped crusader paperbacks are going for insane prices. Are the first volumes going to be reprinted?
While your DC universe starts post-crisis, I’d love to see a video talking about some of the classic Bronze Age stories/runs, especially by Denny O’Neil.
