- Ever seen a person’s weapon and assumed something about how they play? Well, you’re not alone. In fact, most weapons in TF2 hold a certain stereotype. This series of videos aims to go over some of the most well-known weapon stereotypes in TF2.
Please keep in mind that I’m not saying that anyone who uses a certain weapon is a certain type of person. These videos are for fun. Sorry if I hurt your feelings or something.
This episode we’ll be talking about the pyro. The class nobody really knows what to do with, and also the one we’re still waiting on an update for.

For those of you who wanted the stereotypes for the new weapons:
-Dragons fury: you wanna play pyro without playing pyro
-Thermal thruster: memelord
-gaspasser: you just unlocked it via the contract and haven’t used it yet
-hot hand: memelord but you know that it does two attacks with one click, so you’ll get two random crits in a row

Lingering particles that can affect people who run through it after its been thrown? An upgrade that’s only in MvM that would make it super viable in PvP? It only makes sense for it to have been an MvM weapon!

Just to give my opinion, I firmly believe that every weapon in the game is usable.
Of course, but some are more useable than others

Especially after the last update where it got an actual buff. Being able to boost the fuck out after extinguishing an enemy (perhaps even killing it) is incresibly useful when you go for ambushes.

Honestly, the jetpack (Thermal Thruster) is actually pretty good for mobility purposes. You can get in and out of situations quickly (assuming that you have the thrust to spare), as well as surprise attack someone or a group of people by suddenly being directly where they are. In regards to the back burner, this can be quite handy, assuming that you get behind them in the first place, since that's a lot of death and mayhem wrapped up in a single blanket.

You can also use it to cancel the phlog taunt by landing on people’s heads
Literally the only reason I crafted the Volcano Fragment was because
1: I thought it looked cool
2: It cosmetically fits very well with the demon Pyro helloween cosmetics

This. He completely forgot to mention the Neon annihilator can also remove sappers. It's for the pybro on a map that has water...
And for making the pyro still dangerous even underwater.

But it's the possibility to remove sappers that counts, and the neon annihilator is the only weapon that does this for the pyro without being utterly useless otherwise.
Seriously, it's better for an engineer if a pybro has this too. I can't count the amount of times a spy I set on fire thought he was clever by jumping into the water.

@@mrskope You're not missing out on much. Although being able to remove the sapper in 1 hit is a great feat for the homewrecker, and definatly makes it worth it on a map without water over the neon annihilator...
On maps with water, the NA easily trumps the HW.
I've had a strange NA and a strange HW for quite some time now... but the HW still has 0 kills, een though I have it equipped on at least half the maps.
Meanwhile, the NA has around 300 kills. And yes, I've also removed sappers with it.

Fun fact: The Neon Annihilator also deals crits to players soaked in Jarate and/or Mad Milk; it counts them as 'wet' for the duration of their effect.
It can also remove sappers from sentries but everyone is all about the homewrecker
The Neon Annihilator takes 2 hits to remove a Sapper, while the Homewrecker only takes 1 hit to remove a Sapper. Personally though, I tend to find that the Neon Annihilator is a more flexible choice of a melee weapon.
...And it has a kickass bass guitar sound for its melee taunt. Hard to beat that.
Edit:
Another fun fact: Additionally, after touching a water source, a player is still considered 'wet' for another 5 seconds after they stop touching it, so merely touching water is extremely hazardous, if an enemy Neon Annihilator Pyro happens to be running around.
And somehow not with the gas passer
That's probably an intentional 'balance check'. Because really, if the Gas Passer allowed the Neon Annihilator to crit, that would probably cause an equivalent to the old Axtinguisher meta, all over again.
I once stood in the same place with the neon annihilator and got a 17 killstreak because people kept backing into me.
I'll never forget when I first started TF2. Meet The Pyro had finally came out and the game also went F2P so I downloaded and started a match, chose Pyro and my eventual first drop was The Rainblower and I forget the name of the map but know exactly what it is. TF2 is a timeless masterpiece (;

I despise the degreaser, but since it’s my only strange weapon, I use it and have had to learn to properly use the flare gun / detonator to actually get adequate after-burn on enemy players.

Hot hand: this guy is a fish scout playing as Pyro for fun, that or he still hates dead ringer spies with a burning passion even after the nerf
Gas passer: there’s three types of G passer pyros, the new player who doesn’t realize is one of the worse unlocks, the guy who doesn’t realize that the gas doesn’t count as a liquid and tries to pull off the jarate bushwhaka combo only to die immediately, or the guy who loves MvM and saw a guy with an orange dapper topper pop off with it.
Thermal thruster: this guy has the back-burner or phlog equipped 110% of the time and tries way to hard to flank the enemy if all the subtly of a tank. If they somehow do manage to get behind your team, either turn around and blast them, or pray to god that the back-burner won’t take the 10% chance of actually critting from behind.
Dragon’s fury: I haven’t seen enough gameplay with this at all through UA-cam, so I’m guessing this guy is a new player, or an MvM lover.
What Soundsmith didnt mention about the Nostromo Napalmer is that it is smaller than the flamethrower in third person so for that pyros are more likely to use it for ambushing since its harder to spot

Whenever I am Pyro, honestly, while I do use the Homewrecker, I rarely actually take of sappers with it. Both the Engineer and Pyro can remove sappers pretty effectively, but the Pyro is unquestionably better at fighting Spies than the Engineer. So, when there's a Spy to kill and a building to save, if the Engie is alive and able to save his building, I can and will ignore the sapper. After all, if one of the two of us doesn't kill that Spy, he can and will win the war over sapping the building.

As an engi main that occasionally likes playing pyro, I always roll with one unless we have no engies and I need the slot. And it's very nice when you think you're screwed and suddenly zap! Pyro to the rescue.
Watching these vids 6 years later is great, its fun to see what stereotypes I feel like are still accurate and which ones have totally changed
As a pyro main, I like using the scorch shot for spychecking, environmental kills, helping assist my teammates by stunlocking the enemy, but my favorite use is for what I like to call, the “get away from me” combo. Good for pushing away enemies you can’t deal with. Hit them with the scorch shot, and while they’re airborne, swap to your flamethrower and air blast them away.

I’m planning on putting out an update video in a few days regarding my schedule for the summer, but that won’t affect the timeline for other videos. Maybe probably a Casual Meta after that, or possibly a Hightower Adventures. We’ll see.

Edit: Detonator is the Scorch Shot, minus the knockback, for people with timing. I just prefer the Scorch Shot design.

I once found a rainblower pyro finishing a taunt kill at the entrance of spawn, it didn’t kill anybody but it came close
I remember when I was kicked for "hacking" by setting someone on fire around a corner with the detonator. Good times, good times.

Shotgun or scorch shot (shut up, I know)

Homewrecker pyros either love or hate sentries, so they either help engies or destroy nests. Those two are the only proscribed way to play for homewrecker pyros

Gas Passer stereotype is one of two things:
1. Just unlocked it and doesn't know what it does, but quickly realizes that it is easily Pyro's worst secondary and goes back to using whatever he was using before.
2. MvM player who advocates using it and doesn't care if Tacobot hates him because of it.

We have some fond memories of playing Pyro. For example: That one time that we were pissing about on Hightower, sitting at the top and pressing M2, before promptly getting accused of being a mindless W+M1 player after killing a soldier with fall damage. There's nothing more satisfying to me than rescuing an Engineer's equipment from a sapper.
My favorite thing to do in basically any game on payload is use the jet pack, fly behind the entire team, and light them up with the backburner. Even pyros drop quick from that, no afterburn needed. Especially with a soldier or demo, that can cause some havoc.

Last I checked, Scottish Resistance demos were tryhards who either had no idea what they were doing or were fuckin TERRIFYING.
Duvi Last time I checked quickie bomb launchers were rage inducing even if they weren't strange.
It really depends on how you use it. You cant m1 m2 (although you should rarely insta det anyways, you typically leave bombs out if they wont hurt). Basically use the faster firing speed to quickly make a no mann land and poke at them with grenades.
This. Scot Res is better than stock on several maps due to being able to set up traps only slightly slower at the upside of having nasty pockets of death tucked away in corners and being able to detonate a single carpet multiple times if placed correctly. It also is a good weapon for learning demos, as it incentivizes improving pipe aim due to no M1+M2. It really is a trapper's weapon that rewards thinking two steps ahead.
Scottish Resistance is pretty dependent on having a good team. If you're getting rolled the increased detonation time can fuck you over hard. Enemies will keep coming faster then you can replace your traps. But if you have a good team you can shut down chokes pretty hard. There's two methods to using it either place multiple traps or create a blanket covering a large area. When you make a blanket enemies tend to spend too much time killing the stickies or going around them to pay attention to your team.
Scottish Resistance Demomen plan out every fucking route you will ever take and know the map like the back of their hands. And they usually have a good rename for it.
