I love watching you create forests. Bonsai is a recent interest for me, but the few small trees I have worked with so far have proven it to be an incredibly soothing pastime. My goal is to create several forests this spring/early summer including one of mixed species (I know it isn't common because it isnt aesthetically pleasing and various species require different growing conditions, but the forests found in nature here in the US are rarely only one species and I want to mimic the natural setting I grew up in of maple, oak, and beech).
I found your channel a few hours ago but you have gotten me so interested in the art of bonsai and how amazingly beautifal it if you learn patience and take your time. Thankyou for getting me into a hobby/art that last for generations - SBS
Master Chan you are amazing to watch you have such a vast aray of knowledge I just bought 2 of your books I will treasure them thank you so much for all of your videos and your hard work you make it very pleasurable Thank You
I think such groups are very nice, because here the trees, which would not work well individually, but show the beauty of nature as a whole. Nice video Mr. Chan.
Wonderful cedar forest! I'm hoping to harvest a number of saplings from my yard this winter and make a bonsai forest as well. I'm not sure what I've got to choose from quite yet, but hopefully there will be enough straight deciduous trees (acer saccharum, fagus grandifolia, etc.). Another choice, and probably more likely to be straight, are red pines (pinus resinosa). Thanks for sharing! I will definitely use this information creating my own forest!
You don’t often mention the triangle theory but the vast majority of your trees are triangles, even if they are abstract they are still triangular, meaning the foliage is arranged in a triangular way, so in a forest you are arranging the trees to get an ideal triangular shape. I like this video.
I'm really impressed with all your videos. Make me back to my hobby in 1990 while I'm in junior high school. I decided to start by collecting materials in the wild in Dec last year. Tq for all you share Sir
To me there is something special about bonsai forests. Thank you for these videos, you inspired me to try and make some of my own. I would also love a video about how to take care of them. I wonder how you prune the roots. Thanks. Cheers.
Could you make a video about the different common bonsai styles/forms? So one can get an overview about what kind of shapes are aesthetically pleasing. Maybe even a two part video where in the second you talk a bit about which styles are more suitable for which trees? And a second video where you talk especially about indoor bonsai? I think you are doing a great job! Very helpful videos! And since you are so sympathetic I like to watch your videos to learn about bonsai :) thank you so much
I will try and do that one day - although I dont believe in following " styles". After all - Styles are just a convenient way of categorising bonsai, but worth airing my views on this topic.
Here in the midwest USA our forests are mixed species. I would love to see you make a mixed forest. The color differences especially in fall would be amazing.
@@peterchan3100 because bonsai is minimalistic art? But maybe, for example, light forest with pine trees in upper level and some mini-leaves rhododendron in low level?
I love your videos. I have been wanting to do a forest bonsai like these, but I am not sure what trees would be the best for me, and easy to get my hands on here in North Carolina USA.
Peter, i think some rules are meant to be broken, some just don't make it to the Show's. They're perfectly beautiful in a setting of a backyard patio. 🦜🐦🦉🦜🦜

Hello, could you please link the pot used for this forest. Im looking at buying your juniper bundle to make a forest (as I'm a beginner) and would love this oval or a similar round pot. Hopefully, I'll feel more confident in purchasing an established bonsai in the future from yourselves! Your videos are marvellous since 9am I've been watching them, it's now nearly 1pm in the afternoon. Thank you for making isolation interesting and educational.
@Peter Chan Earlier you said you wire the trees to the pot cause the birds around tend to pick out the trees, but these must be to big for the birds to mess with..😉 So here, is it just an old habbit or is it another reason with the big trees? If i may ask?😃
At the very beginning of the video you had mentioned that you were not to sure of the species of your cedar forest display. You mentioned it could be cedar of lebanon , but I couldn`t hear your next suggestion.

Nice job. Enjoyed your nursery walk and selection. Very good. Your assistant might need a little clip around the ears. Dropping his soil litter on the floor only makes a bigger mess - as it gets walked over adjacent surfaces and messes up the soles of your shoes. etc... but he is very talented all the same. So probably wire up the thumb and forefinger of his right hand for half a day instead....Regards Craig

You heard wrong - the birds peck out the moss. But the wire is to keep the trees in position and to prevent them for being accidentally pulled out.
Hi Peter
In this video you mention cedars airlayer very well. Is that for all Cedrus species including cultivars?
YES
