I think you and Attila work well together and bring out the best in each other. Working on your own on a forest of any size is difficult you just need more hands. I did an aspen forest for hubby's Christmas prezzie last year. I think it was 15 trees. I trimmed it and put the cuttings in water so I have one too now. Keep growing.xx
I am a complete neophyte amateur beginner, but already i learned a lott watching you guys, and besides that its so comforting watching your videos after a day of stress or hard work! Many thnx!!!!!
Great job guys your a good team. Not sure what your climate is there but one tip we use is to use muck to build up the edges and create a solid border to hold soil in. Muck is basically even parts of long fibersphagnum, akadama dust, and shredded clay, mixed with water to create a sticky muck consistency. One other tip when planning these big plantings your usually growing out the material, so each season I would repot the trees flattening out the root ball a bit more each season, it really makes getting the root down on the slab and close together much easier when assembling. Again stunning forest looking forward to watching it progress!
This is my Favourite video of yours so far on this Channel. The cinematography is on point and I enjoyed the bit where Attila showed how he created the base for the trees. Well done!
Beautiful work once again Atilla and Adam. And lovely editing Adam. The detail work with the moss and stones--even watering--was mesmerising. You're a talented artist and a fantastic teacher.
I have 11 DRs in pond baskets destined for a group planting. I will be using a large mica pot. This video was quite informative and helpful to me as I continue to plan my Dawn Redwood forest planting.
@@notionbonsai It depends on the trees. I’ve been studying them for the appropriate time to prune them back, and they’re not ready. Spring is the target however.
Thank you so much for your video. So perfectly explained!!! One question. How do you keep the birds from pecking and stealing the moss from these forests? I made one using your method, and within 3 days, the whole soil area was assaulted and foraged by birds and all the moss thrown aside. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks again.
Ahh noo! I have had this problem with my spaghnum moss on the surface of some of my pots but not very often. One effective method is to use bird netting or mesh to cover your Bonsai. Ensure that the netting is secured firmly to prevent birds from getting underneath. You could also employ visual deterrents such as reflective tape, old CDs, or scarecrows, which create visual disturbances that birds find unsettling. Another option is to use bird repellent sprays or gels that have odors or tastes that birds dislike. I hope this helps you with this problem!
@@notionbonsai Thank you so much. I have tried those sprays, but the darn birds are immune to them here in Spain. Horrible creatures!!!!!!! I will try the mesh. Thank you so much for your reply!

Absolutely amazing. What a stunning absolutely stunning piece. I'm enjoying your channel, you're such a good speaker, so clear and make it all look achievable for those of us not as skilled. Atilla made an amazing slab. Best video yet.
I've made a few slabs for my attempts at a forest planting. I still can't find the trees I love. The sealer coating on cement slabs or pots,I thought was my great one-of-a-kind idea's haha guess not. Hey it works great just seal the wholes after drilling cuz here in Michigan's weather water then ice will get into pours and crack and weaken the cement. One slab I used very lightweight re-bar which worked great if u have the tools to cut it. Another one I used a single peice of chicken fence and cut it just short of the end size and the other slab I used like u did the sheet-rock joint tape.. all 3 held up great being outside in michigan fir 3 years but honestly the unbreakable one is the one I used thin re-bar it seriously was knocked over and barley chipped the cement..
Great looking forest you guys! Saw a trick on the Herons channel, where I think Pad, mixed clay into some soil to hold edges in place. I tried it on a planting where I needed the soil to stay on a verticle surface, and it still seems to be holdinga couple of months later.

Where I live on Morecambe bay, after collecting moss and placing it on my trees, I then spend at least an hour a day picking up from the ground and replacing it, following the black birds, who remove it every day.

So cool. Is he going to have to bring it in during the winter?
Hey Bookworm! Bring it in do you mean to the greenhouse or?
Is the soil you used what's best for dawn redwood? Not inorganic bonsai soil?
They do like to be in a more wet soil but i'm sure they would live in either. 🤗 This soil it is in will mean it needs watered less often 🙂
