Sarah, this was a great video. I love how you explained each step and your entire thought process in so much detail. Your camera angle painting the beach part was perfect because it was very helpful to watch you mixing as you talked about your color choices and and reasons for each step you took. This was a super helpful video. The coastline of Scotland is gorgeous and the combination of cliffs and ocean are stunning. Thanks so much for the video. I always look forward to them!
Haven't watched much of your video ( I do love the way you paint❤) but I MUST say that Wolfie is an artist in his own right , his views and sound are inspiring; the accomliment to your painting couldn't be better ❤

Sarah, your videos are always refreshing and encouraging and inspiring to go out and paint as well!!! -God Bless you! I vote for more of these videos! You could sit and paint Anything, and it would be interesting to me! I'm 57, a self-taught artist, wife of 25 years, and mom to a 19-year-old son who just joined the Navy on an aircraft carrier! We live in the state of Washington- anyway, I love to draw and paint, and it is challenging to me to do landscapes here- water, clouds, rocks/cliffs- but I am learning, thanks to you! Thanks again! Kelli
I really enjoy these process videos. Especially this one with the sound of the waves in the background. Should you do more videos like these? Yes, please! 😊🌊 I've just started drawing again after several years. I'm working to improve my drawing skills to eventually do paintings again. Watching you helps things crystalize in my mind and I get a few ideas I hadn't thought about before. Thanks for the inspiration 😊🙏
This was a beautiful video. I loved how you explained your color mixing choices, techniques for the cliff, water, and sand, and tips on working with gouche outside in the environment. These are all wonderful for a budding urban sketcher such as myself. I noticed you did an underwater shot! Your cinematic flow is certainly wonderful and I enjoy your mix of closeups, wide shots of the environment you paint as well as the aerials to give a sense of place. I hope you choose to do more of these in the future.
Thank you! Funny thing about the underwater…I dropped my phone while recording, freaked out, googled it, and discovered it’s rated to go underwater for a short amount of time (not super deep). So I said screw it, let’s get some more shots! Though I’m still paranoid about the salt water…probably won’t do that often.
@@SarahBurnsStudio LOL You are braver than I am with your phone. They do make waterproof cases if you decide you want to try it again. :) Again, thank you for your hard work and beautiful videos. :)
These are the videos I love. Trying to explain your process while working is hard I know but these are the type of videos I look for everywhere. Thank you.
Thank you so much, Sarah! I love the way you broke everything down and explained your entire process and why you’re doing what you’re doing. This is so helpful Gouache is one of those mediums you need to know how to work with to get it to do what you want and give you the results as lovely as yours.
Enjoyed this very much! I'm just starting with gouache plein air (from watercolour) so this was helpful. We have a similar coastline here in Nova Scotia ("New Scotland"), only our sand is more of a cool grey instead of rosy. Lovely work on your spread - you captured it so well.
Being new to your channel this is the first plein air I've seen you do. I have to admit I laughed out loud when you said there needed to be some water spray on your rocks and POOf , one stroke and there was! Beautiful work. I love your narration . and I never knew that drybrush can be magic. Thank you!
Okay I just realized why some of my seaside/beaches/oceans paintings are missing the yellow tones of the water because of the tossing sand in the water. Your water has so much movement in it with watching the various colors you add to it that I didn’t realize before. 😁I’m finding out that I really have a fear of using purple in my skies, seascapes, and landscapes/mountains, which is definitely what is seen in all of subjects. 🤯 It’s comforting to see that I’m not the only one struggling with keeping my watercolors/gouache wet when painting outdoors. I forget to keep my eye on that while I’m painting. Once again thanks for sharing your time at the beach, inspiring us to paint & especially enjoy the moment. This is definitely a gorgeous painting.
I so love your videos, Sarah! It's so soothing to see these beautiful landscapes you paint and also hear you walk us through your thought process and how you tackle different challenges. Your choice of music is also absolutely spot on and just your whole channel is an epic, binge-worthy and action-inspiring art adventure I love following along. Thank you for all your amazing content here, on Skillshare, and on IG. You're one of my fave artists to learn from and get inspired by every time you post.
I highly enjoyed watching and listening as I am starting to finally play with the gouache I bought a few months ago. It's helpful seeing someone else's process to help me find my own.
This video couldn't be more timely because next week I'm taking my first vacation in years, going to southern California, and one whole day is devoted to going to the beach! I am so pumped!! 🤪 My sketchbook appears to be the same size as yours, although I'll be doing ink and watercolor sketches. Thank you for all the "observation" reminders and the inspiration. I'm even more excited for my trip now. Have a beautiful day!
I've been working a lot in wmo this weekend on landscapes from travels last year.- mostly the rocky coast of Maine. Thank you for transporting me to the coast, as I do miss it in the big city. Hugs!
Another fantastic video…I struggle with rocks and water and this was particularly helpful. Love to see more full painting videos like this one. Great job!

So I finally took the plunge into an artist grade gouache, and wow I am in love. I never could have imagined that it would be so wonderful. I thought I might be wasting money on the medium I will never use. I was wrong, I will be using gouache a lot
I’ve just recently found your channel. Thank you for making videos of your process. They’re very informative and you explain yourself very well. I just recently have tried gouache and I think I’m really going to enjoy it. Your work is beautiful and I love your style.
I think this was one of your best explanatory videos. Thank you for sharing it. Showing it from start to finish and explaining the layering and color buildup was great.
Super demo! The more I practice doing dry brush with the gouache, the more useful it becomes for a variety of textural effects. Could you post a demo with just dry brush exercises for those just beginning? Actually the brush “pinch” technique would also be a good technique to practice…maybe a “How to make textures with brush tricks for gouache painting” demo!!!
A beautiful painting one of the most enjoyable, your rocks were excellent as is your description as you worked. I would like to see you do a similar painting in oil. I saw you do one a long time ago which I thought was very good. Thanks for posting.

You are such a amazing artist! Wow! I am subscribed to Skillshare, but I have not yet seen your class. My favourite thing to draw are beach scenes, so I was mesmerized by your talent. Thank you so much for sharing your awesome talent, can’t wait to see what you will paint next time.
Hi Sarah. I've been subscribed for some time now and haven't commented before. I just listened to a Carl Olsen show that mentioned you towards the end, and I was so happy to hear his comments about your artwork, and couldn't remember you speaking about being an introvert, let alone relocating several times in Scotland. Anywho, I clearly have a good eye for the few artists I subscribe to and have time to follow on youtube 😁 Always love your beach paintings, especially locations you revisit and noting the differences in season and colour palette, and loving all your gouache paintings as I've only recently been experimenting and enjoying this medium. I even bought the empty rectangular palette due to your use and it keeps the gouache moist a treat. Look forward to more pleinair adventures from you. All the best 💚
