In the end, the flights and total cost got out of hand sadly so we had to postpone it. Both Viv and I are coming there with the first chance we get 🙌

    I agree about the importance of height acclimatization. Many years ago, I spent two weeks ascending multiple peaks and sleeping low for two weeks in the Saas-Fee area. After that, we went to Chamonix and Mt Blanc - we felt pretty good during the climb there, but many folks came and struggled enormously to reach the peak at 4809 meters. It's much more enjoyable when you are fit. Cheers.

    great video, we followed u guys i think a few days later (13.7) and were the only group to reach margherita hut that day (storms). it was nice having the hut so quiet (basically empty) as the altitude up there is tough. great filming of Parrotspitze 😊 also to see the view! we had clouds and lots of lightning the whole nt.

    Hey,
    Enjoying video, great content!
    Just question simple really. Not really I am any mountaineering expert but in any scenario how this rope between two of you stopping fall? I mean she goes you go and other way around..? Just trying to understand how you can stop a fall of 80kg x 2 or 3 due to fall impact. I really trying to get some info not being bully. Or this is just for mind comfort and reality is one go both go? Again wonderful video!

    • @TraintoSummit
      @TraintoSummit  Рік тому +3

      No worries, I'm happy to explain. It's the tension in the rope and the distance between climbers that's the trick for stopping a fall. If you have 10 meters (or more) between 2 climbers and the rope is kept fairly tight between you as one climber falls in a crevasse, the other one can then act as the anchor by getting low, moving their bodyweight back, jamming the crampons and the ice axe in and stopping the other person's fall, as long as there is tension on the rope. There's no sock on the system as the person falls, thus making it fairly easy to stop. We practice this in crevasse rescue by actually jumping down a slope and it works like a charm. The problem is if the rope is loose on the ground. If that happens then you're screwed due to the shock load on the system. Another helpful thing is to tie knots in the rope, this can help by having the knot stop in the lip of the crevasse as the person falls, essentially stopping the fall. It is harder though to perform a rescue after with the knots on the rope (but not impossible). The last thing I'll add is that this system is for crossing glaciers. When you see us on a ridge and I'm holding coils and the rope is at a short distance between us, that is a different technique for stopping a slip (usually the more experienced climber takes this role) - this is a mountaineering technique when you have to move fast and are not protecting every single section. This technique doesn't always work but it's a good precaution. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!

      @TraintoSummit  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for watching! I plan to make one next year that will cover the subject. We buy our flights in the beginning of the year for the summer period when the flights are cheap. We tend to not eat out or go to the pub on the weekends when we're back home, and all of our savings/money essentially is going into these trips. I find that if you prioritise your hobby and work hard, you can make it happen💪

      The route is detailed in the guidebook: 4000 m peaks of the Alps. Normal and classic routes by Marco Romelli and Valentino Ciridini. Definitely recommend that guidebook for info.
      I also used Alltrails as a GPS guide, the route name is: Parrotspitze - Punta Gnifetti - Zumsteinspitze.
