A little too fast. However this is Journey's hardest rock song after Separate Ways. My second favorite song. Most people overlook this track or don't know it. Love it!
DevilDave59 it's a superb song but best journey song by a mile?? Who's crying now...faithfully, open arms, mother father, only the young??? this live version is poor rushed and sloppy.
@@lancethompson218 I'm assuming he means "best" in that it's the best single example that showcases the incredible range of Perry's vocals as well as Schon's guitar prowess. Add in Cain's dark chords and you've got a song that has it all--hence the reason why I'm here to listen and enjoy. :D
@@Beast96GT No HE doesn't assume nothing, its all down to personal preference, my opinion that Edge of the Blade is Journey's best song is just that, MY opinion, you have yours, everyone else have theirs.
Badass!!! Playing it at a faster tempo like Iron Maiden used to do around this time period as well. Steve Perry is going psychotic on it, love this!!!!

This is my personal favorite Journey song. Love the faster tempo. Makes this song come off almost as a metal track. Steve's vocals are light years beyond amazing on this track compared to anyone else and I've literally watched and listened to every single video and recording I could find of this song. Arnel's accent slurs too much and JSS goes flat on the highs. As @katzenkaiser commented 9 years ago, this is Steve's song and it's his vocals that drive it into the category of all-time favorite for me.
Steve Perry to the World, "The Circle is Broken" Darth Vader (from the George Lucas Worlds of Make believe) to his former Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi, "The Circle IS NOW COMPLETE..."
@Katzenkaiser I won't argue the Steve vs Arnel point, but to me it's Neal that makes this song, not Steve. The pace of the music and shredding of the solos are what make it amazing.
Eric Jr. Corpuz Right... Still Steve. 1983 wasn't the best vocal year for him. His vocals were stressed and probably enflamed from night after night of singing. Want to see him perform at his best? Look up the Journey Vevo live versions.
Eric Jr. Corpuz Arnel is only great to you Pinoy fans. Steve is not using gimmicks like backing tracks and autotune which Arnel uses and Steve Perry didn’t even have ear monitors back then. Steve Perry is the best rock singer ever and I’m a millennial.
LIVE AUDIO NO "DEAD AIR"... THE AIR IS SURCHARGED WITH EXCITEMENT, LIKE POSITIVE IONS BLISTERING AND SWIRLING BEFORE A STORM...LIGHTNING STRIKES..."SPELLBOUND RAGE..."
Journey got into a lot of trouble over this song due to suicidal fans. They later made up for it in the song, "Be Good To Yourself". I personally like the song. I just think they could have left out if it cuts enough yourself.
Mick Davis Never! No type of censorship! You personally wish such and such, all in the interest of "suicidal fans." Who gives a damn as to what you think or what their "needs" are! The lyrics in question do NOT EXPLICITLY PROMOTE SUICIDE, in any way; that which they do is express the degree of pain, WHICH ALL HUMANS HAVE FELT. GET OVER IT! The last thing we are going to tolerate is a thought police using censorship to second guess the meaning of lyrics...If you and the other snow flakes happen to melt with a little heat, then please feel free-and melt away! Melt off the face of the earth and relieve us of the surplus population! No more room for whiners.
Mick Davis I've never heard of Journey getting in trouble because of this song and whatever anybody thought its lyrics meant. The interpretation I make of the lyrics is a guy who's pissed off at a girl probably who was unfaithful to him and he perhaps gets even or feels some kind of pleasure to see her in trouble, like, Look at you now
I don't get the Suicide thing either. Sounds more like a song about divorce....contracts, lawyers, champagne downtown....that pretty much sums it up. Sounds like she's divorcing him, he knows she'll regret it later.....that's the "edge of the blade" he's referring to.
I have NEVER heard of that. I think you listened to too many rumors and internet bullshit. This songs has absolutely nothing to do with suicide, and as a former, suicidal teen who listen to this album repeatedly, it (nor any other song by Journey) never made want to kill myself. This a song is very clearly about someone getting their karmic justice handed to them. Maybe you should read the lyrics instead of gossip columns.
briss bll Arnel is not in the same universe as Steve Perry. Arnel is a wanna be Steve Perry. Arnel sings at least half a key lower than original version by SP. Has another singer on stage boosting his vocals.
briss bll No he doesn’t have more power to his voice, Arnel sings in a lower key. Steve Perry tuned his voice to Schon’s guitar that’s why he sang high for Journey and lower register on his solo albums. Plus Steve Perry didn’t use autotune unlike Arnel.
birada journey STFU. You Pinoy fans are so rude. Steve Perry is singing live with no gimmicks. Arnel is an autotuned wanna be Steve Perry and can’t even hit the high notes.
Steve knows how to showcase his voice, no matter what song he sings. He is a master at his craft!
Favorite Journey song hands down. Journey is nothing without Steve!
YOUR PERFORMANCE, PERFECT IN EVERY WAY...
A little too fast. However this is Journey's hardest rock song after Separate Ways. My second favorite song. Most people overlook this track or don't know it. Love it!
La do da and Lady Luck were great rock songs
there will never be this kind of music or group, long live Journey! :-)
All I know is his voice on this one is so crazy awesome!!!
Best Journey song by a mile, real rock n roll, although the studio version is the better version.

Such a GREAT rockin' song!!! It's up there with ......... Escape, Chain Reaction and Message Of Love!!!

I don't care what anyone says about Steve perry. In his prime. His out did them all. Totally fantastic 👏
this is it, nothing against Arnel Pineda, but this is Steve's shit, and it's brilliant...Steve's is god in singing this...
Es una grabación en estudio, nunca la canto en vivo,
I Love this awesome song. Steve you were and STILL are one SEXY HOT Talented Man. ♥♥♥
Live temp tends to be faster because of Adrenaline, and wanting to sing as many songs as the can in a 2 hour set.
Yeah, that and cocaine.
La voz más hermosa del planeta es la de Steve Perry ♥, el es todo
but this live version with this tempo is still good! this is amazing
