the best voice ! thats all i can say . perry if you read this , you have made half of this world love you so much with your amazing voice . god bless you my idol.
I'm liking them more now than I did as a kid in the 80s. I saw them in Philly back then and they were great.Every song was a hit. There was nothing in the whole two hours that was not well known. I always wanted to go up there and play the drums since I wasan avid drummer at the time.
this song is from the last american virgin which had one of the best sound tracks out there I miss the songs of the 80s they were the best Seven tyler has a great voice
Producers/engineers slow down or speed up songs in production. Some bands speed up songs live and Journey did this or maybe they just did them in the original speed. I think it came from the speed they wrote or maybe recorded the songs at. Who cares? This is the speed they played them at live and it was flawless. It was the band that wrote and recorded the tune doin iton their terms. What more do you need?
@Ballermhcdj Being a singer with a higher register myself. I doubt that. Perry had lots of wind to hold any note he liked. It's about the energy of the song. It's very common to slow songs down for main stream radio release and many times this has been discussed by myself and other musicians I have played with. Sometimes we speed up songs same as the acts that wrote them. It just comes off better live. Zeppelin, Sabbath, Van Halen and many others did this. Its just the way it is sometimes.
@jamesyap188 You're right about the studio and live versions being worlds apart. The live version is much more emotional and beautiful. I wish they would put this version on an album! And seriously? If you were in front of that many people singing a song that spans multiple octaves, would you consentrate on delivery or diction? In the studio, Steve didn't have to sing it loud enough for a roaring crowd to hear. Of course it sounds different.
i hate it when ppl ask me my fav song and i say 'dont stop believing' and they say 'oh that song from glee' - they have ruined a classic. Only steve perry and possibly arnel pineda should be allowed to sing that song
well i think SP doesn't know technique when his voice is tired.listen to open arms live '83 japan.it's not that good,he adlibs at the wrong time.you know he's struggling.he probably didn't took care of his voice before the concert.but arnel is also a respectable vocalist in his own right.he's from a cover band.he can sing a lot of musical genres.
to those who believe that steve sound great on this video, might be deaf or just suffering a bad case of self bias, i know he's the original singer of this song, but heck, the album and the live versions are planets apart! he cant even pronounce his song right....damn. nuff said....
Unfortunately, unlike what I thought/said before, now, having really listened to him (Arnel), I think Arnel has a better voice than Steve's...Believe, that wasn't an easy decision for me to reach, but, that's just my personal opinion...Others, of course, will have a different opinion, and that's okay.

I love this song, and love the man singing it, He's one of kind, and angel in my life, he inspires, God bless you Steve

@zepproxx yeah that makes more sense thanks for the info.
And Neal Schon didn't like this Classic!!!
@zepproxx maybe they play the songs faster live so steve wouldnt hold the high notes as much, i think its much efficient this way to tour.
did anyone agree that this song is fast?

Patrick Gallimore This was when Steve’s voice was tired if you listen to earlier versions it’s a lot better
