@@endonyxoneaudio8644 thank you I'm much better now. Took about 3 and a half years but finally decided I was still too young to live my life alone and I dipped back into the dating pool. After a few false starts, I met the women I'm still with today. Next month marks the 10 year anniversary of my first wife's death

Daron has such a great voice, he and Serj compliment each other so well. The song is supposedly about the inner struggles we all deal with at times and though everyone experiences it, we don't always see it. Because hey, who raises their hand in public and says "I'm having a shitty day".✌️
Two weeks ago I had a store clerk put his hand up and told me all about his shitty day. All I asked was “How are you?” Got more than I bargained for in response and he didn’t even have what I was looking for in stock anyway. I hope his day got better after that.
@@MalevolentProphecies This is not directed at you in specific, but... I hate how some Americans use "How are you?" as a greeting without actually meaning it or wanting to hear the answer. Not something that happened to me personally but I've observed it.
@@Roderik95 Hey mate, all good! I see how it could seem insincere to ask someone “How are you?” and not expect a response.
I’m not American, but where I’m from that phrase is commonly used as a greeting, and it’s socially acceptable to use it with no intent in generating a conversation about someone’s day. I see how that could be confused as being superficial, however the intent is no different to simply saying “Hello”.
Actually, the general response to “How are you?” is usually, “I’m fine” or some similarly shallow reply, regardless of how someone actually feels.
So in my situation, I guess that I was a little shocked to receive a genuine response to the question, as that is not usually how that interaction would play out. I took that opportunity to empathise with the fellow and wished him well, even though I’ll likely never see him again.
Don’t take it to heart, nobody means any harm or ill intent by it. It’s just a cultural peculiarity. Embrace it for what it is, life’s too short to harbour resentment over something so trivial.
@@MalevolentProphecies Yeah no I get it. I don't take offense to it, I just dislike the concept of saying things you don't really mean is all. If that makes sense. It does feel shallow like you said, not that anyone really cares hah.

I always assumed it was about how a person feels when they are deciding whether to end their life or not and at the end they decided to live and were glad of the choice they made.
Yes, for me personally the song is about (my) depression, about all the pain and feeling disconnected from everyone else around and about being happy that I survived days so sad and painful that I even can’t understand in retrospective how I survived them.
Daron is an underrated vocalist. Love that guy

This song sums up about 6 months of 2020 for me, where I was living in a shared house where no-one spoke to me for weeks on end. I was so isolated despite constantly hearing the others socialising, knowing I wasn't welcome. I got out of there eventually and cut contact with them, obviously - but holy shit that was a rough patch for me.
I always associate this song with the scene in the movie "Disturbia", where Shia LaBeouf was under house arrest with an ankle bracelet, trying to figure out how to pass the time.

I recently had the plug of my p s three because my p c went out 2 days, And I realized this movie was the first time I ever heard this song an amazing movie
Popular rumor was that the song was about Daron (the singer for this song, and generally providing the more higher-pitched/chaotic backing vocals on most other SOAD songs) losing his brother in a house fire, a tragedy Daron survived but sometimes wishes he hadn't. The rumor has been largely debunked, however, as Daron is an only child, but it's easy to see how the song gave so many people that impression. To me the lyrics definitely suggest a memorium, like an anniversary of the day someone died, of being reminded of that loss and the loneliness that comes of knowing you're still here but they're not, with the finale being acceptance of an argued "silver lining" in that, by surviving, you can still carry this person's memory and keep it alive. Or perhaps simply breathing a sigh of relief. Like the other 364 days of the year life is fine but this one day of the year that marks this tragedy is always difficult to get through and he's just like "I survived this year. I've got 364 days to recover and mentally prepare myself for the next one" and hoping to make it through without succumbing to the grief and sorrow.
I once saw Serj in my local mall here in New Zealand, and although I didn't approach him, he saw that I recognised him and he gave me a nod of the head. Their song Science is one of my favs.
my husband died in front of me in the hospital on freaking thanksgiving morning. he drowned in front of me and the horribly incompetent doctor. No thanks to the night and morning nurse that ignored his desperation and the phone calls I made. You all lied. I recognized his distress and I called the code blue. The hospital was so so so negligent. staff that day caused my husband his life.
Everyday is the loneliest day of my life. There are no good days for me and Jims days are gone.. I see the faces of the people that failed my husband every day. I see him gasping for air every day. UCSD LAJOLLA... impossible to sue and staffed with overworked people that have no vested interest in the hospital or the patients. Good luck if you go there or any hospital
Surprisingly the most chill song of SOAD and also surprisingly, even though this song doesn't have any crazy heavy metal switch-ups, this song does switch it up as the lead singer is actually not Serj (who is officially SOAD's lead singer) instead the lead singer of this song is Daron (the lead guitarist) and Serj acts as the backup singer.

My friend died around the time this song came out. It’s been years since I’ve heard it. I thought I was ready. I was not.
S.O.A.D. have such an interesting sound. Some of their songs catch you off guard and seem random but they're so meticulous and methodical.
I like this song because I'm a very lonely person.

I think everybody can relate to this piece of music at one point or another and it's why this song is such a great one and why it was a single from that record. You should do more System of a Down! So many songs have different ranges of style that they border prog metal.

Lead voice is the guitarist, he’s known to be a shy- this song hits home as an Army Veteran. I feel like it was their ode to being deployed. So much more behind it, you can google the rest. This song is so meaningful to me.
Daron Malakian, the lead guitarist, is singing lead on this one. He more commonly sings harmonies and backing vocals. I dig Daron's vocals on this song, with Serj singing backup. It's definitely one of their more subdued songs. Thanks for this one!

The only time I've seen them play live, a few years ago, before they played this song Daron dedicated it to the 1st lady of the United States (who was a different person at the time). And I wasn't a supporter so it was pretty funny to me, though I'm sure some people wouldn't find it funny

This song was a reactionary song to the band deciding to separate as a band. SOAD were broken up for a while. But it is a song that is very useful metaphor for the ‘void’ or ‘despair’ that can appear in one’s life every now and then.
I think this song can be interpreted a few different ways. It could be about missing somebody, it could be about suicide, it could kinda be about loneliness in general. But in anycase, it's a great song.

There are 2 voices in SOAD, there is a lead vocalist, and there is a back up vocalist who also plays guitar. In this song, the backup vocalist takes the lead, he has a much higher pitched voice than the lead vocalist.

Daron's voice is so good in this with Serg. Probably my favorite from them because yes Brad your right on this one. It's one of the most traumatic event in history. This band stands by their message with their music. This song is about the genocide of the Armenian citizens by the powers that be. Another song you should definitely check out is the Forest.
