I remember reading reviews for NV back in 2010 and most reviewers seemed to look at it like Fallout 3 with different guns and a different setting, nothing more. The lukewarm reception it got always bummed me.
not to sound like a conspiracy theorist or anything, because im really not, and i also realise this comment is 8 years old etc etc. but if they were from metacritic, bethesda was to pay out a bonus to obsidian if the game got a 85% or higher on metacritic. i believe at the time it got an 84. Journo reviews at the time seemed to view it as more of the same but better, and gave it reasonably high scores, but still in the 80% range typically. though, players immediately seemed to take to it, expecially the hardcore fallout fans. and like wine its only bolstered with age.
Skyrim came after New Vegas, it had less choice, less consequence, less costumization, less relevance to how you built your character(You could max all skills and get all perks.), linear story, and removed it's attribute system(essentially ESO's version of the SPECIAL system.). Fallout: New Vegas also didn't win goty, and didn't get quite as high critic score.(Due to beth's bad job at QA) This is also a AAA game company that loves casualizing games.
Beth didn’t make NW, they even tried to actively sabotage it. Obsidian created NW, obsidian was given 1, just 1 year by Bethesda to make NW. QA, obsidian or the devs are not at fault for the poor state the game is without unofficial patches. Bethesda deserves none of the praise and all the blame for NW.
That'd require either Obsidian writing the dialogue options, or Bethesda doing a complete turn around in the direction they've been taking their games. Probably not likely, but I hope as well.
There's a certain surge of vengeful pleasure you get when doing that in Fallout, to anyone who you don't like. Especially against Otho when you're playing as a woman.

I loved the expression factor in the elder scrolls series. I hate that theres absolutely no expression in the faces of the npcs in fallout. Whats the deal here
Well in NV’s case specifically, Bethesda gave them only 18 months, which is like a quarter or so of the usual time so they had to reuse just about all of Fallout 3’s animations and assets
NV shits on Skyrim in terms of story, facial animation is just a minor graphic effect. Besides, there is facial animation in new Vegas. Just not on unimportant characters like Otho here
I was gonna say that your hopes should've never been high because the next Fallout would have a fully voiced protagonist, making such a feature even more costly to implement, but seeing as how 4 hadn't even been announced when this comment was made, I'll settle for the fact that Bethesda was behind it, so it was unlikely to begin with.

Gorge Food no, you dont understand. The dialogues never refer to wombs, they always refer to their dismissal of women. The Courier is not their slave or their member, so she could fight. But both Otho and Lucullus points out female inferiority.
@@xxlCortez they also point that the role of females is to bear children. one fertile man can create a new army if there's enough women. one female can only bear one baby (future soldier) per pregnancy (2 or more if she's lucky). kind of interesting if you think about it from a tribe of warriors perspective. the female ranger was allowed to fight because she's just a slave.
