The film is produced by Emile Gladstone, Gary Dauberman (“IT” and “Annabelle” franchises) and James Wan (“The Conjuring” universe). Michael Chaves, who won Shriekfest’s Best Super Short Film in 2016 for “The Maiden,” makes his feature directorial debut.
The film stars Linda Cardellini (Netflix’s “Bloodline,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron,”); Raymond Cruz (TV’s “Major Crimes”); Patricia Velasquez (TV’s “The L Word,” “The Mummy” films); and Marisol Ramirez (TV’s “NCIS: Los Angeles”). The cast also includes Sean Patrick Thomas (the “Barbershop” films, “Halloween: Resurrection”), Jaynee-Lynne Kinchen (“Selfless”) and newcomer Roman Christou.
Chaves directs from a screenplay by Mikki Daughtry & Tobias Iaconis. The behind-the-scenes team includes director of photography Michael Burgess, production designer Melanie Jones, editor Peter Gvozdas and costume designer Megan Spatz. For years I heard the stories about her and never believed she was real. I would always think my cousins would just be playing around to make me scared. But after one night of going out in Mexico, I kept hearing a crying noise. It was about 3:45am. She kept crying, howling almost. I thought it was the brakes of the big rigs but I knew it was in fact a woman. It legit sounded like she had surround sound throughout the sky. Shit was unreal. Mexico man. Gotta love it 😅

@@SVP3RNOVA I never believed my mom until I went to Mexico when I was 12. Two of my cousins, one 12 and the other 6, guided me to a local river. It was us three and two other girls that were my age at the time. We played around the river and it got dark. And we started hearing someone crying. But the crying sounded like it came from every direction. At first I thought maybe someone fell down on the big hard rocks near the river, then I remembered the legends my mom used to tell me about and I was scared shitless once that crossed my mind. The crying was louder and my cousins told me and the others to get the fuck out. We ran shirtless through the little mini woods and for back home. I couldn't sleep that night. Once I got back home from my vacation I told my mom and she laughed and said "Por pendejo" or others words she called me a fool.

Victor Silva In Australia, Event Cinemas has advertised this as part of the Conjuring Universe and Wan I believe only stated this wasn’t a part of the Conjuring Universe because he wanted to see how people would react to this as it’s a seperate entity and different from the already established characters and demons of the Conjuring 1 & 2. This film is produced by him, directed by the guy doing the Conjuring 3 and it looks and feels exactly like another entry into this universe.
I’d be surprised if it wasn’t a part of this universe, I believe Wan is trying to deceive people and surprise them with easter eggs and connections to the bigger Conjuring Universe.

Oh so this is based off the legend of the woman who drowned her kids in the river and then weeped for them, taking any child who goes near the river thinking it's her own, realizing it's not and then killing them.

@@lethalcheese no it is based off the river, watch the legend on it, the movie obviously doesn't center around the river cause then it'd be easy to avoid, but the actual urban legend centers around it, it only happens if you go to the river and look in.

Then that same woman who would think other little children are hers but they're not so she drowns them. As an adult, if you see her, you're cursed with bad luck...

This came on my bday and I remember seeing this
All my life I've come up with ideas that I couldn't do anything with, financially, contacts ect. Then years later someone did.
I thought of movies that should be done. Then someone did those movies.
When I was a kid living in east Los Angeles my Chicano friends told me about the La Llorona. With all the scary movies over the years I thought nobody like a Steven King or someone well known for scary flicks has thought of this movie.
I thought of this 35 years ago.
Now I look and see that 4 years ago they made it. 😆
