Until recently i owned a Toyota Carib AE95 AV11 4wd wagon 4AFHE 1600cc, it blew the crankshaft oil seal, being east--west not north south there is not much room to work down there, it had rust the cost of the repairs was too great, i replaced it with a Toyota Corolla Fielder 1.8? CVT auto these cars have a very good reputation!!!! I still have many parts for the Carib.
FIRST TIME SEEING A 4AFE PARALLEL TO THE CAR! MY 4AFE PINGS BAD AT HEAVY ACCELERATION 2ND OR 3RD GEAR AT 30-40 MPH. ONE CULPRIT WAS THE EMISSION RELATED 2 PIN COOLANT SENSOR LOCATED BETWEEN THE THERMOSTAT AND WATER PUMP (LOCATED NEXT TO THERMOSTAT). NOW IT PINGS LESS BUT WITH 93 OCTANE, IT DOES NOT PING AT ALL. IGNITION IS 10BTDC WITH PINS BRIDGED IN THE CONNECTOR. ANY THOUGHTS?
I was looking at getting a 84 Tercel 4wd. Id love to know your thoughts on how easy getting parts are to get for it. I’d like to daily it. From what I’ve seen online it’s not as easy as other Toyotas but really don’t want to have to pick and pull parts
it can be tough to find some of the common items like window regulators or door handles. But the cars are pretty reliable once they have had a majority of the mechanical parts replaced. I daily drive mine and very rarely have any issues. But it's worth replacing common items like thermostat, radiator hoses, water pump, belts and CV shafts. I would stick with Aisin or OEM for many parts if possible. CV shafts should only be TrakMotive as a majority of the other brands aren't the best quality. I use rockauto for a majority of the parts I use.

Use 95 octane fuel, is your fuel stale ie more than 3 months old?? check your ignition timing.
