    Love the idea, thanks so much for the introduction to the multi sensor! I think it is the answer to an issue I had with another project.
    However, FYI, the Smartthings app has Automations built in that will allow you to do what you want. No need for Sharptools.
    Also, while writing this, I realized I can use the sensor for another project that has been plaguing me for some time. How to auto shut off my 3D printer when it is done. Pretty simple. Add the multi sensor and either use the vibration sensor or possibly the open/close to control a smart outlet. Thanks again!
    Edit: FYI the Samsung sensor is discontinued. Look for the Aeotec version.

    • @SimplySmart123
      @SimplySmart123 2 роки тому

      You are welcome! SmartThings has come along way but thier automations still have a ways to go. SharpTools is free to use the rules engine and soon they will run locally. Also you are correct. The Aeotec is the new version of the sensor.

    Thanks Justin, it looks like I’ll be moving to Sharptools very soon as Webcore seems to be on the Smartthings chopping block. I was able to create a Dryer routine in Smartthings routines by using 2 separate ST sensors. Use one for acceleration and another attached at the vent pipe measuring temperature. When the dryer has acceleration for x minutes and the same sensor is closed, then the dryer turns on a virtual switch to display on Actiontiles that it is running. Then when the other sensor sees that the temp is below x temp it knows that the dryer is done and it turns off the virtual switch. In Webcore I did what you are doing in Sharptools.
    For my washing machine I use a open close sensor on the door, and a power meter on the plug. So after x minutes of power above x the washer is on. The open close sensor must be closed along with the power meter at x level. The reason I do that is my instruction booklet for the washer recommended that the door can be left open to keep it cleaner without water sitting in the front loader

    • @SimplySmart123
      @SimplySmart123 Рік тому

      That sounds great! I don't think WebCore is going anywhere just so you know.

    • @jdstolz3474
      @jdstolz3474 Рік тому

      I am considering going to Hubitat to keep Webcore, especially since Hubitat has a Device Handler for Ambient Weather stations. I use that Device Handler in Smartthings to add devices in order to get a very comprehensive amount of data onto Actiontiles. Much more data is then viewed than what is on the digital console that Ambient Weather can display.

    This is awesome! I bought a Smartthings starter kit just for this project. It seems that Pushbullet is no longer in iOS. I ended up using SMS. That works fine. But do I need a premium Sharp Tools account to use it? I really hate monthly fees. Is there a free solution to accomplish this?
    I'm on the Sharp Tools free trial now, and it seems to be working well. I want to make a program for the washer too. Would you recommend using the exact settings as the dryer automation?
    One thing that might be an issue for me is that I often use the washer and dryer and a work bench. How would you recommend automating a bypass so that using the washer as a workbench doesn't trigger the dryer automation? Maybe a motion sensor?
    Also, what is the typical battery life on a sensor?
    Thanks!

    • @SimplySmart123
      @SimplySmart123 3 роки тому +1

      To use the variables you will need a premium account but you can do the same thing with a virtual switch. So just make a virtual switch instead of the variable.
      For the washer typically you will need to tweak some settings as the motion is not constant. You can also use an energy monitoring smart switch for the washer since it just has a normal plug.
      For the work bench you should just be able to use the door on the washer must be closed for either to work. Since ours is opened to dry out after the laundry is completed.
      Battery life depends on the use of the sensor but it’s probably around 6 month to a year for normal use.

    I wonder if you could tape this to the dryer vent and if it gets over 110° for five minutes then the dryer is running and if it then cools down to under 90° then the dryer has stopped. I guess that wouldn't work for someone doing a cool air dry only load but it would work for me 99.9% of the time. In this way you could put the sensor where it can't even be seen.

    • @SimplySmart123
      @SimplySmart123 4 роки тому +1

      The only issue I see is it could be affected by the ambient temperature and the response of the sensor maybe be delayed. May take an extended period to heat up or cool down. Also would only work for the dryer.

  • @DataRebelYXX

    I noticed that your washer/dryer are on pedestals and that you have a cupboard right above the washer/dryer. What's the trick to installing the pedestals and in which order for water connections, drain hose, and dryer vent if you don't have access above/beside the units - only from the front? I have the same washer/dryer units and bought the pedestals only recently but haven't installed them yet because the overhead access to the back would be restricted once the pedestals are in place.

    • @SimplySmart123
      @SimplySmart123 4 роки тому +1

      I actually got them when I bought them new. But you would probably pull out your dryer. Disconnect your power and vent. Then disconnect your washer. Install both pedestals. I can remove my shelves above if o needed to. You might also be sure they are level.

    • @SimplySmart123
      @SimplySmart123 4 роки тому

      I don’t have a video on that but it would be even easier. Just monitor the power when the dryer is running. Once the power gets to a certain level then it’s running and once it’s below a certain level it’s off. You might also try and shorten the time on the vibration sensor also and lengthen the off notification or basically increase the sensitivity of the sensor.
