I'm torn between these and the NB Balos as my next purchase....have been loving the Hoka Skyward X
@@joshjelden I haven’t tried the Balos, but it’s a premium daily trainer where as the Mach X2 is more of an uptempo trainer (or less expensive race-day option).
If you’ve ever tried the Balos, consider this a race-trim version of that. Or you can think of it as the trainer version of the Cielo X1.
Hoka now is officially a very good running shoe company: Mach 6 this one Cielo x1 and Rocket X will make a great rotation.

Love your short form videos here for the info on the mx2. Your delivery is on point and purposeful. Bravo. I had issues with the heel as well. The skyward x has a nice rigid heel also. Next run, I’ll place a piece of mole skin or a bandaid then we’ll see. Agreed this shoe has SOY 2024 potential. Take care
I was thinking about this one.
But im a fan of speed 3’s. So i found discounted ss3’s. I didn’t want to worry about a new shoe. Ill stick with what i know

I ran in a demo last year's Mach X. It was OK but my expectations were higher. With this update performance seems to have improved but yeah, heel counter didn't have to be that floppy. Sometimes they are missing the point in training shoes. I liked the lateral heel rubber. I think it might last well. But frankly I don't like the price.
@@TolunayOrkun I agree on both counts: missing the point of a training shoe and the price. It seems Hoka struggles to keep their fast shoes light enough, so they probably figured the floppy heel counter was a good way to save a few grams. Also, the price….are they just testing the market? 🤷♂️
The Cielo Road heel counter digs into my heel and destroys it. I really want to grab this shoe but all the other Shoe Tubers agree the heel is going to be a big issue for most runners. V1 the Heel counter was perfect.
@@Cellularsurfer I’ve heard the heel has been an issue for others but knowing the shoe now, I would feel comfortable buying this shoe. The heel is a little loose on my right foot, but not enough to prevent me from running efficiently and I haven’t had any rubbing.
@@its_Matt_B_ Yeah I felt the same way with the Cielo road but took it for run over 8 miles and my heel was bleeding. Will keep it for just track works out. Big Fan of your Channel. I am running Chicago and NYC Marathon in a few months.

@@its_Matt_B_ Yeah you are correct. I ran Boston in 23 (with you) and in 24. I don't have a BQ for Boston was 73 degrees this year and I got a time of 3:14I Chicago I am aiming for 3:05 or better. Love your quote " Even when its not so good.......ITS STILL SOO GOOD" Keep running Matt.
How does it compare to the rest of the Mach line up? I have loved both my Mach 5s and Mach 6s so really tempted by this one.
@@nicancelin3714 It doesn’t really compare because it’s far more race-inspired than the Mach 5 and 6. Still, the sizing is similar and it’s an epic shoe!
How would you choose between this and the cielo x1? I’m after a fast trainer I can wear into my first proper fast half marathon
As i've run in both, I can say I would choose the Cielo X1, however the choice isn't easy and the Mach X2 would be an excellent choice. The Mach X2 is slightly lighter than the Cielo X1, but the difference isn't noticeable to me. I think it really comes down to what you want to spend. If you can buy the Cielo X1, it would be a good choice, however I don't think anyone would be disappointed with the Mach X2 (unless the potential heel slip is a problem).
I don't care how good the Mach X2 is. I can't get over how bad the Mach X was and I wasted $180 for a dead shoe. I can't stomach buying anything Hoka ever again.
@@PatrickStar-km1dm Yeah, I get it. A bad experience can put you off a brand for life! The silver lining is that there are a lot of good brands with SO MANY good shoes, that to do away with one brand doesn’t really make a difference.
@@its_Matt_B_ You absolutely right Matt! This was my first training block ever and didn't really know what to expect or how to even build a shoe line up. My next full marathon block I'm really going to have a good idea what I want and prefer. Thanks for all your review videos!

I loved the last version of these, and I consoder getting these as my Endorphin speed 4 are atrocious for my heels. My heels twnd to chew through heel counters and that has me a bit concerned about these shoes.
@@Mumrik597 I really liked the original Mach X2 also, but this is a big step up.
Have you run in a shoe with such a minimal heel before?
I’m not sure what you mean about your heel chewing up the heel counters, but I’m wondering if less material may actually be a good thing for you!
@@its_Matt_B_ I get huge holes in my heels. And usually it doesn't matter at all, but in my Endorphin Speed 4 it causes a lot of discomfort. I've been thinking that maybe less material is good as well. It's really just a matter of testing I guess. Hokas usually got my feet extremely well 👌

@@antoinebare8051 Yes, I think this would be a good marathon option for a lot of runners. It’s protective enough and that Peba in the forefoot makes it feel snappy.
Will I run at mach speed in these shoes?

Do you prefer the ride of this or X1? U said this was a fun ride, many say the X1 is a fun ride. Seems the mach x2 is more racey than the x1 many say the x1 is good at all pacesand durable so probably an excellent training shoe as well? A bit confusing. Btw i think im Going to buy one of these shoes just cant decide!
@@liamhockey9189 if I had the choice and price wasn’t a concern I would go with the Cielo X1, but for $190 (a lot less than the X1) the Mach X2 are the way to go!
Cielo X1 is the only Hoka that fits my wide feet. Mach 6 WIDE was not wide for me 😭

@@i.p2088 This is definitely wider than the Mach 6, but not quite as wide as the Cielo X1. It’s a solid shoe. It’s a shame it probably won’t work for you!
Is the upper similar to the Boston 12?

I find the upper is more comfortable in the Mach X2. I'm not a fan of the Boston 12's upper!
The heel counter looks similar to the Rocket X2, have you run in the X2?
@@Brozneo Yes, you’re right about the similarities, and yes, I have the Rocket X2. I haven’t run in the RX2 for a few months but I remember the same heel issue with them. Like the MX2, the heel issue in the RX2 wasn’t enough to put me off wearing the shoe for anything.

How narrow are these v Mach X or Mach 6?
@@SS-bk2zb They fit very similar to both the Mach X and the Mach 6. They are wider than the Rincon 4 and the Skyflow.
