    People seem to think that "he just has a faster kart." While tuning and equipment does indeed improve performance, it doesn't win you races, let alone international ones like this. Every driver at a race like this has tremendous funding and very knowledgeable mechanics who can tune the shit out of the karts. What you see here is pure driving skill (remember this is rotax, where every engine is the same and the single speed gear box makes driver skill even more vital to differentiate yourself). I believe the way he is able to obliterate the competition in this video is that he has perfected his braking technique so well that he is able to corner at the right speed while keeping the engine rpm's in the power band to allow for maximum acceleration out of corners. If you watch other really good drivers, you can just hear it when they brake. The engine noise stops, and then as they lift off it comes back but at a weaker sound. This is called bogging down the engine, and doing so in rotax guarantees that you will have no power/acceleration out of the corners. Few can master their braking and become so smooth that they always have power and grip. Max is one of those few.

    • @luigiluciani3899
      @luigiluciani3899 6 років тому +16

      Liam no one doubts he has talent, but having an engine that is 1 tenth faster is a huge advantage, it’s not like f1 where the difference between 1st and 10th is 1 second per lap basically... plus, when you have a father like his that spends hundreds of thousands every year for karting, when you can go practice basically everyday, crash the kart and not have to worry at all for the costs, it makes everything a lot easier... his dad decided he was going to be a driver from birth and if I was able to practice most days of the week like he did, and if I had his equipment, i would’ve also been on that level if not near to it, as would many others

    • @braided2018
      @braided2018 6 років тому +16

      Partly true, if youve driven rotax you know the engines come back just as quick as whats shown on the video. Max has just mastered braking hard, most of us brake like this > slam hard on the brakes (we know about where its gonna lock) > and we come straight off the brakes just a little (hence the kart twitches as the rear locks for a split second), Max on the otherhand, like Lando Norris and George Russell - seem to have learnt the exact amount of brake pressure required for max braking...its like their controlling pressure in the left foot down to 10s of grams...like blipping at that level is insanity. trying to brake alongside him as late as him is impossible - go straight into the run off area, he goes in hot and comes out hot - thats something thats only going to happen with a LOT of practice where driving style and setup are both optimized. Not many of us have anywhere near enough money for the track time he got.

He is constantly beating his teammates in f1 in the same car by 0.3-0.5 seconds per lap. And those are drivers who are really good. On this elite Level of driving 0.3 Seconds difference per Lap is huge. Also watching im Sim driving, he drives for the best Sim Racing team in the world and is on the same level as the best sim racing Pros who playing there game hours everyday and he just went after a f1 into his sim and driving the same pace as these guys. @Wildcat12 3 місяці тому +1

      @@Shnu125i 0 Racing knowledge explains that entire paragraph... while the other guy is definitely deluded in thinking that Verstappen isn't a great driver, he's nowhere near "best driver in history" level. That would put him up there with the likes of Senna, Clark, Schumacher, and Hamilton at their respective peaks, and that's ignoring the number of other drivers who could contend for that title. Verstappen has shown that he is a champion regardless of his car yes, but that doesn't mean he's the greatest there ever was. Maybe that will change, but so far he's only shown himself to be great, not the greatest.
      Also, beating his teammate constantly isn't a huge badge of honor when his teammate is constantly dropping out in Q2. If Checo makes it another season in that Red Bull seat it will be an absolute tragedy with Lawson, who's won just about everything he can at this point, still waiting in the wings to have a go even in the Toro Rosso and Tsunoda not even being given a test yet after a great season of driving.

      Just a question, with all the Verstappen hype aside. You as a race driver, do you think he is exeptionally talented or do you think he's just a step ahead because of his fathers connections and the money to produce the best kart during his development?

    • @mr.Ragers
      @mr.Ragers 7 років тому +1

      He is an exceptional talent, but so are many others in Karting they just don't get to showcase it because of bad connections, lack of money and bad engines. In International Karting Championships the one paying the most $$$ gets the best package then the 2nd 3rd 4th best packages goes to factory drivers and then worst package goes to the guy with minimal budget, which btw is 10k Euros per race. The top guys pay up to 20k++ Euros per race which is not inclusive of Hotel, food and traveling expenses. A Season in international Karting easily costs you anything between 100-250k in Euros. That is if you aren't sponsored by the team or Red Bull to ease or cut some of the costs.
