yep only 2 points away after the two races in which mercedes had the better car and setup (layout suiting more the mercs) max did as much damage limitation as he could and looking into the next races + a possible 4th engine for hamilton i would say it doesn't look to bad :)
Absolutely brilliant result for Max - from last to second. Completely eliminated that engine penalty. Only thing better would have been Lewis staying out on slicks and crashing, but that would be like hitting the lottery.
@@993mike if lando went in Hamilton might have stayed out to tough it out and might have gone off then
@@Chris-rm6mz the fact Max is only down 2 with having 3 DNFs, Hungary and now this is a real show of who should win the championship this year
Max is so impressive. To think he'd likely be 40-50 points clear were it not for the 2 Mercedes driver shunts he copped this year, it will be an absolute shame if he doesn't get the title. In the meantime, fans are getting the best season in many many years...
He'd probably be only 12-20 point clear with this race with his DNFs. The point gap speculation from those crashes are over exaggerated.
@@Cal3000 Nah, he lost 25 points in Silverstone, 18 in Hungary, 25 in Baku. Those three alone are 68 poiints
@@Cal3000 according to my speculations of what would have happened, the gap would be 48 points. Here are the assumptions.
Baku: no blowout for Max, Lewis P3
Silverstone: Max P1, Lewis P2 (He would have pulled away in sector 2 which is why Lewis knew it was important to move there)
Hungary: Lewis P1, Max P2
Monza: still happened
@@loveisblindness1352 you are leaving out the fact that Hamilton would have scored points in those races also. Hamilton would have gained in Monza, verstappen got free points at Spa. Also, Silverstone was somewhat in his control. Verstappen realistically would be up by no more than 12-20 points at the end of last week.
@@MTE12.2 just do the match with the examples you provided. All those equate to only +10 in Verstappen’s favor. Also, if you delete Monza, you delete Silverstone as Verstappen had control of the outcome. If there were no DNFs, he still wouldn’t be far ahead.

It was heartbreaking/frustrating seeing Norris lose like that! But on the bright side the rain greatly helped keep the championship at close as it could be.
I felt so sad seeing Norris floating off the track... But listening to his radio it seems the desperation to win his first really got to him. He was super impatient and aggressive. Mclaren engineers should have been more firm in their decisions
He was right for 2 or 3 laps to stay out tbf, the engineers should have been more firm in saying, that the downpur is really starting
I appreciate this onboard f1 but you cut out the best part when he overtook 2 people on the slicks in the rain and made up almost 10 seconds in a lap!
yes diff tyres
Thats the easy part for the rain master 🙂
Where can I see that?
Did he overtake them because of their mistakes?
Kind of crazy to think if Lewis stayed out for one more lap like Norris, max would’ve likely won

Perfect strategy by the crew, perfect composure by Max. So satisfying seeing this well-oiled machine pull off such a race
3:16 love how Lambiase says 'You'll be past him in no time' and Max immediately passes

It's incredible how Max instantly gets GP's information and puts it on track. Also, there's no "What do you think?" when it comes to crucial pit wall decision-making, that's the difference between GP/Max vs. WJ/Lando.
Crazy how the track changed in just 1 lap
So codemasters’ games are realistic after all 😂

Shame! The lap just before these was amazing. Verstappen keeping his low downforce car on worn out mediums on the track while everyone else couldn't, was great to see.
I agree they should have included that lap also.
Credit where credit is due . Max called it, he asked about pitting, thanks to that ferrari going wide.
Max was lucky that the weather changed yes, but it wasnt luck that made him call it , he took that opportunity himself without being asked or told.
It's honestly a privilege to watch Max Verstappen drive, and he's even better now it's crazy
The most impressive thing is actually not on this video. Max makes the decision to box a couple of seconds before this. While he is the one keeping the car on track as others go off. The only one as quick as him is Leclerc. Who decides to continue. Max has the perfect feel when to pit. That brings him P2 in this race. All others have easier decisions to make, or make worse decisions. HAM pits 'opposite to NOR'. Lando makes the wrong call. Sainz and Ricciardo were off allready, Bottas and Raikkonen went early because they had nothing to lose. The moment Verstappen tells his team that he thinks they are 'losing time one this tyres', that is where he wins the championship.
Hamilton didn't want to pit. Merc forced him to pit to cover Max. It would have been hilarious had he stayed out like Lando. It happened in Turkey though. He lost two places due to his ego and nearly lost to Norris and Gasly as well.
@@Divergent19 Turkey he wanted to stay out especially after 2020 he stayed out and won but Mercedes cocked up big time that day it was one of several mistakes that cost him last year.
